Face it, /r9k/. VR as a whole will flop.
>oculus rift is 599 US dollars
>You need a top of the line PC to use it
>normies won't have one, and certainly won't spend $1500 on a bundle
>b-b-but MUH MORPHEUS
On a ps4, so it will have shit graphics since 95 fps is required. It will have just casual garbage.
>b-b-but, MUH VIVE
Will likely also be expensive since it uses hardware superior to that of the rift.
Time to pack it up and move back to your keyboards and monitors, boys. The "waifu age" will never come.
The technology is fine and everyone who has ever tried it (excluding the vive) have been blown away by how immersive it is.
If it does flop, it will be because palmer is selling them at a loss. Nigga didn't learn from sonys mistakes. but maybe zuckerberg will foot the bill to see it succeed.
What's more important, neetbux or an immersive gf simulator?
everyone is pissed because they thought it would be $400 max, but they're still buying it anyway. The people who were interested in owning it are the ones who had the money for it.
>I can't afford it so it'll flop
Look anon if you want it you can just work a job somewhere. You have 2 months before it comes out which is more than enough time to save the money for it if you're willing to give up your neet ways.
>buying the first iteration of new tech
when will these faggots learn
it was never going to succeed, this isn't real VR, the normalfags won't care until it's either cheap or comes with a non-intrusive neural interface, until then we'll just keep getting shitty goggles only a select few will buy and it'll never become the norm.
these "VR" headsets are like electric cars and 3D printers, they seem cool, a few people have them, but they won't take off.
>implying saving a couple hundred is dumb
my waifu can wait.
>waiting for DRM: The Hardware
holy shit, what a fucking faggot lol
Watching the reddit AMA with Palmer right now.
All questions are about the price.
>mfw he hasn't answered any yet
I'm saying can I get close and comfortable with my waifu if I put on the goggles. Actually, scratch my waifu. A waifu. I'm not expecting a precoursory waifu to be available for quite some time.
>the first iteration of a technology is slightly more expensive than I was hoping
>therefore the industry as a whole is doomed
Top lel, do you have any idea how much the first PCs cost?
Also $600 includes an xbone controller and fancy VR headphones, kinda shitty that we are forced to buy those things in this preorder, but if they could be persuaded to sell just the headset it could go as low as 450-500
the advancement of technology has been consistent. In fact its been exponential. It is the one thing that has been able to overcome the market, war, and politics. You have no idea what you're talking about.
How high polygon count are we talking though? I don't want some AA2 stuff. I want a cosy beach or cottage platform. Of course this means custom waifus will be sideswiped but I have no problem with a pre-load.
>Still shilling the most exciting computer technology of 1990 AD.
AR is best R. You'll understand when you're "jacked in" and suddenly have to use the toilet.
I for damn sure won't buy one until the price goes down. I'm not about to spend almost $2,000 just so I can pretend to have sex with an anime girl.
>It's the PS3 all over again
>It's new tech, initially, it will be shit
I'm literate enough to get AA2 working. I just don't want to step into a world of blocks. I need the immersion to stack up to the price. But I'm getting that there are currently no high fidelity waifu platforms out there. Which is fine really because this thing seems new enough that UPS is still loading them up.
I thought this as well and I only be checking the Jap scenes out anyway.
>Might as well buy the Sony one.
I don't get why people keep calling this shit virtual reality, it's just two screens strapped to your face. Not to mention you still have to use a keyboard or controller, which completely ruins any chance of felling immersed. Google is competing with this shit by literally selling people pieces of cardboard. It goes on your phone and an app splits your phone's screen into two images.
Get back to me when virtual reality is walking into my closet and feeling like it's a holodeck.
well each model has its own polygon count. I'm sure when the rift comes out, a lot of artists will jump at trying to sell their own models. You'll probably find a lot of high quality models then.
Not sure what you mean?
>poisoning your body.
>Not working for yourself and your interests.
I don't get your post.
That's why I said faster computers and smartphones. But there is no more innovation. Every hip new idea is a shitty gimmick. Where's the next lightbulb? Where's the next automobile? We can hardly outdo the moonlanding now.
>the price might not ever be in one months pay range
>that usually takes 2 years
I don't think I need to explain what's wrong here.
Why escape and fuck up my inner ear when I can simply paper over all the ugliness of life with AR magic?
>My shitty dinner can look like a jubilee of exotic delights.
>My body pillow can come alive as I cum.
>My black neighbors can even look like animu aryans.
Reality will be INCREDIBLE.
the advancement in technology doesn't just equal faster shit, it amounts to new technologies and innovations.
All hardware reaches a point where it can no longer be advanced. Take a CRT monitor for example, or a flip phone. They are replaced by something completely different, but somewhat familiar. Thats how technology progress.
I'm sure we'll eventually get some sort of eye contacts that lets us browse the Internet and call others.
You've got to be seriously deluded and pessimistic if you think we've reached the end of innovation.
>normies won't have one
>thinking this is bad
Less normies means less complaining about gf/waifu sims and better vidya. Also, people who are interested in this probably already have a PC capable of running VR.
In the near future AR is affordable because it's not as cumbersome, resource intensive, and benefits from economy of scale -- as everyone likes it.
So not only can I replace my AR set, the low income negros can afford AR! Britty sure they replaced me with Grape Ape.
>implying AR will be more popular than VR
imagine jumping from world to world seeing unique creations from a million different minds.
Theres no way people will want to stay in reality.
Of course there will be worlds with mountains of dildos, but more than likely, a company will organize and prioritize the quality world for a low price. Thats enough to make sure VR beats AR.
No doubt AR will be neat, but for it to be truly special, you'd need to wear the head mount at all times, which won;t be possible for most people.
Play Mario Maker for a few minutes if you want to see what creations from a million different minds look like. Sure there is the occasional gem but you have to wade through mountains of bullshit to find anything worthwhile. I guess it's similar to 4chan in that respect.
IYes, but there will be people trying to capitalize on the sorting of good content. Thats is enough to boost VR because people will be willing to experience unique worlds.
AR is a problem because it relies on some pretty advance AI (for interactive avatars in your world) - AI that is too advance for indie developers. This is why AR is a poor bet for the next 20 years.
Exactly. How dumb are these people. It's obvious the technology is workable, it will just take time to get it mass production ready. Same as big screen TV, same as home pc, same as home video, all of these ideas were originally just for the super wealthy and had big drawbacks for the first few years. Eventually they were ready at a mature tech state and cheap price that made it mass market ready.
It won't be vive and Oculus 1, it will be vive and Oculus 2 or 3 that really hit the big time.
I don't own it and won't own one for several years, but I understand the importance of this technology. Its like the iphone 1, introducing new technology to the populace that will revolutionize the way we consume media and communicate with eachother.
Only a fool would think VR is a gimmick.
this isn't VR, this is a gimmick, it's two screens strapped to your eyes. until we have real computer on brain communication, I won't be impressed. we're already making strides in giving sight to the blind, I'll wait until we get real VR.
>real VR is how I define it
this is VR by all definitions. Just because its not sending shocks to your brain doesn't mean its a gimmick. And you should acknowledge that this is leading the way to the tech that you want.
this is far from being VR, the only senses you can stimulate are sight and sound which is a far cry from real VR, it's only been in recent years that the standard of VR has been lowered to meet those of these goggles.
as for these goggles paving the way towards the technology that I want, you are sorely mistaken, the technology that is paving the way towards what I want is what is helping the disabled and being developed by the military, the same technology that gives senses back and gives feedback to people's stubs.
>virtual reality is how I define it
And this technology is being used by the military and medical industry.
How fucking stupid do you have to be in order not to see the potential and future results of this technology.
>How fucking stupid do you have to be in order not to see the potential and future results of this technology.
I've just been saying that it's not VR and it won't take off, does that really hurt your feelings this much?
what the fuck does 3d printers have to do with a technology thats readily available and can be used by most consumers?
3d printers cannot be used by most people and are severely limited in capability.
Your critical thinking skills are ridiculously low.
I don't think this is it guys, I think VR is too much for us right now. I think it's going to be another 10 years before VR is really here.
great, but its not aimed at or convenient enough for the common consumer.
Either way, believe what you want.
I remember having a similar discussion with /v/ fags 3 years ago who insisted that VR was a gimmick and would never make it to mass production and yet here we are.
Like I said, your critical think skills are horrendous. You're blind to whats right in font of you.
The normies did this on purpose.
They wanted to price out half of us NEETs just to extend our misery some more.
To me this isn't virtual reality. Reality is your experience and where as it might be grounded in a virtual environment, you are not experiencing that environment as if you were there - you're disconnected. Like looking out of a submarine window at the deep ocean world knowing you can't just go and be one of the fish.
Until they manage to make it so you can insert your consciousness into a game and have you actually fully immersed in an experience set within a virtual reality - I'm not buying.
That's what I said.
>doing drugs makes you a robot.
>being a nonsocial shit who makes money makes you more of a normie than said druggies that have had sex.
VR will be the next motion controls. Nobody wanted that shit and nobody ever will. Give me a mouse, keyboard, and a monitor and fuck off. Developers should make good games instead of gimmicky shit.
What happened r9k? Didnt you say your life will be complete once you can buy he oculus? Looks like its too much for you? Maybe you shouldve gotten a job instead of living on neetbux and chicken tendies :^)
FUCKING OWNED LOSERS
I lost it,give me a sec.
>just have to mention it.
Here you go.
>tfw you got out early.
Thank you very much Anon :)
ORIGINAL COMMENT REEEE
Only way to know is to find out. I started 'tuplaforcing' like a week ago and my imagination is getting better at picturing things within reality and I only assume that after months of this people become experts so it happens automatically.
At least that's my understanding of it.
