I never had a birthday party. I remember wanting one as a kid, but my parents convincing me not to. I'm thankful they did. I can't imagine how much no one showing up to my birthday party would have fucked me up.
I used to do birthday parties every year until I was about 15. Parents loved putting them on, they were usually pretty successful. Got a surprise party when I was 18. Made me cry when there were so many people. I genuinely thought I was a fucking loser then. Now I just hangout with a few friends on my birthdays.
And last year was my most depressing birthday so far. >was turning 20 >spent the day with part of my family >worried about my future and feeling old because I was officially no longer a teenager >before I went to bed, decided to do something special to take my mind off my worries This is where I fugged up. I decided to watch Whisper of the Heart because I had never seen it. Witnessing a cute teenage romance reminded me of what I missed out on during my school years and ruined my day even more.
Oh well, I've figured out a surefire way to have a good birthday this year. I have two specific gifts in mind so I will tell each parent exactly what to get me. They're hobby things that I'm interested in, so it should all work out well. I figure it's better than me not figuring anything out, and ending up receiving quite a few cheap gag gifts I won't really use.
I went on a tangent, but it doesn't matter I guess.
>>25533447 Bicycle riding (which is difficult right now because it's winter and I also live next to a highway), so I'm asking for a bike rack. I will take my bike to a trail or to town once in a while.
The other gift is for a hobby I haven't really started yet, which is drawing digitally with a tablet. I have drawn a little digitally but it's hard with a laptop touchpad. So if I can find a cheap tablet online (I like being frugal) I'll tell my parents I want it.
