I have a phone, but don't use it much.

I need to have a computer that I can actually sit down and *do* things on. I don't really understand what people are doing when they're staring at their phones for hours a day.

You only view it as a problem because for some reason you don't have/frequently use a fucking smartphone in 2017.

Just do what everyone else is doing and it'll all be normal.
