The biggest demographic of avid gamers is actually 18-30 years old. Watching gaming videos on YouTube would have you think otherwise but adults are the biggest consumers of vidya.

I don't play much myself and I'm 22 but that's a personal choice as I have too much responsibility and obligations at this point in my life to plays video games for hours. If I got to a point where my life was put together and I had free time I would definitely play video games more often.

Everyone has their own form of escapism, movies, exercise, fapping to degenerate porn etc. It's apart of human nature, it doesn't inherently mean everyone who plays games is trying to avoid their shitty life. Mind you, someone who can't cope is more likely to excessively play video games the same way one would do drugs for their lack of coping skills.

Normal person would be eager to press the pleasure button and avoid pressing the pain button.

When you are depressed you believe life is shit and is going to be shit forever. For depressed brain the pain and pleasure are just steps in action sequence that always leads to negative outcome. No matter which button you choose to press, you are always going to feel anxious about it. Thats why doing anything at all is so hard and energy consuming when you are depressed. Thats why you end up doing nothing and lose all joy from life.

I just realized what my shrink meant when he said that depression isnt real. Now I dont know how to feel.
