I think consciousness is an emergent property of our structural organization. Once that is lost, i.e. when death occurs, I don't see any mean nor any reason for it to remain.

If that is truly the case, then it would be impossible to regret anything or to suffer in any way after you die. However, I still can't shake off this idea that I would be missing out on life. The fact that I wouldn't be conscious of it passed the fatidic hour doesn't seem to matter in the least to my present self.
