So here I am R9k. To be completely honest, I have rarely visited you guys. Alright, longer comment, but bear with me.
There is no single keyboard I could recommend for everyone. There are many different layouts and brands to choose from, and everybody has their favourite one. What I can give you is a rough overview of the most popular types and my personal opinion as a full time Vim user.
Do NOT buy a big brand keyboard (Razer, Korsair, Logitech...). They cost a lot more than they're worth (especially Razer ones), their software is shit and runs only on windows, the customization relies on the software running on the PC and is not stored in the keyboard, and also, the choice of switches is limited to only cherry brown, blue, red, and black.
After you have decided that you do not want a brand keyboard, you should think about your budget and how you will use your keyboard. That will decide the size of keyboard that you should get. Here are some of the most commonly found ones:
100% (Full sized), This is the biggest and most common type. Most of the time, they'll be more expensive than the smaller ones in the same quality range due to the increased number of switches, though there are not that many custom full sized boards, so mostly you'll come across cheaper boards. The biggest downside of this size is that they're big and not portable at all. They don't fit in most regular backpacks ant they're heavy.
80% (Tenkeyless). These are missing the numpad, and you can find a lot more of the more pricey keyboards in this size, than full sized ones, though with more money comes better quality (except for Razer boards). An 80% keyboard you can fit in a backpack, though I still wouldn't recommend one if you plan on carrying it around.
60% (65%). This is probably the most popular one among mechanical keyboard enthusiasts. There are many prebuilt ones (Poker, magicforce, HHKB) and also many kits to assemble them yourself (GH60). The difference between 60% and 65% is that 65% usually has arrow keys a
