Hey folks. I'm up for a standard civ thread, but I have two prominent ideas otherwise.

>Idea one is playing as a newly emergent race in the laboratories of a now crashed starship, existing in the tunnels of a massive space-hulk. I'd have to ask which race you folks think would fit. Maybe sci-fi style kobolds, Clone/Android Homunculi, Machines left behind on the hulk?

>Idea two is playing as a hive-style race, freshly emergent in the understreets of a fantasy city, expanding through the sewers and the abandoned cellars of forgotten houses?

You used to be an adventurer. Still are in name and skill. But there was a hollowness in you. It grew when your father died of grey leaf in leaf den and it grew further as your mother left. You were small. Too small.

You were good with knives. You became caravan guard. And then you found some traveling companions. In some short, rapidly passing days, maybe even friends. You killed goblins and orcs and gnolls and have traveled land far and wide. In 20 years you assembled an epic set of armor and a blade that can cut flesh, magic and aether. Eventually your fellow adventurers left you. There was enough gold and wine and women. For you, it was not that these things were never enough. They never mattered. No woman could fill your void, no amount of gold would make you happy and oblivion that wine brought, was not enough.

So you stayed. You did not end yourself, because you were dead many times before, raised by party cleric. Other side offered no respite from hollowness.

Eventually you found a rogue wizard. It was in times, when you were undergoing transformation to a lich. Wizard offered you knowledge – a shard and a map – that will lead you to happiness. He wanted a book, an ancient tome and you provided it to him. Then you killed him.

Your phylactery now resides with a dragon and should he call upon you some day, you will have to answer. But for now, you reside in the outskirts of a large port town, full of taverns, adventurers, sailors and disease. It is here that your search for a secret island that dead wizard promised, continues.

You limp along out of the hideout, a trio of dripping scalps hanging from your belt as you adjust the fit of your new, thick heavy duster. The long coat is excellent for concealing any weapons under it and the treated, supple leather keeps the heat of the sun and flame away.

You brace the small, heavy chest against your hip and load it onto the well laden horse bearing the wriggling Patterson. The unhappy creature looks at you forlornly as Patterson kicks yet again.

"Knock it the fuck off asshole" you grunt, flicking him across the top of his head
"Your not going anywhere but the rope."

"MMMMPH!!" comes the muffled reply. You aren't sure but it sounded like a insult. As you circle around to slate your leg twinges, blood seeping down your thigh. You should probably do something about that.

>Use small medkit on Leg wound

>Use Bottle of Rotgut on leg wound

>Rub dirt in it. Its just a scratch

Yet another microbial deep sea evolution game. Slight twist: This deep sea world exist inside a celestial body with no exposure to starlight, in total darkness.

How to play:
• Open an image of a species in MS Paint, or your editor of choice
• Make one evolutionary change to that species
• Save as .PNG!
• Post your new species in the thread with a description of what evolution you've added and why.
• Adding size increments or names is optional, but would be appreciated.

Notes:
• All creatures are microscopic with no senses unless they evolve otherwise.
• Unless stated explicitly, no species ever goes extinct. Old species can still evolve, even if they're not on the latest "chain"
• Try to make your evolutions gradual and realistic
• Have fun

You don’t have a goal in mind beyond living up to what she wanted you to be. In the pursuit of that, you might already have become something different than what you once were. The last two days have been the most you’ve studied since your first year, and you haven’t even started with the material of any of your actual courses yet. No—you are buoying your waking mind into a most profound place, not into darkness, but into emptiness, a Pale void in which time and space mean nothing. You forge new mental connections and familiarize yourself with the anchors of an ancient doctrine of Sorcery; your mind is working in ways that it never has before. You wonder what your friends will think.

But then—if they don’t approve of you, then they aren’t really your friends, are they?

You know Kye cares about you – legitimately – but it’s just as well he cares about the party girl, the always-available Roshari noble with too much social mobility for her own good. Likewise, you seem to have earned Davion’s respect, but you don’t know if you can make the image he sees when he looks at you persist without turning to mere deception.

You come to the realization that you’ll just have to decide what’s worth it to you—and when you do, you hurt inside, but you do not cry.

Your dreams are dark and silent as if whatever once troubled your sleep now lies dormant in a dark corner of your mind. Perhaps it’s given up hope entirely.

Your bed is cold when you awaken in the mid-morning. It isn’t biting, but is a bit uncomfortable, as if a chill has propagated upward through the material from the floor beneath.

Varator’s office is on the highest level of the Archive, the great library building with a worn-down appearance that belies the great wealth of information and the sheer number of intelligent minds that dwell within. Gone to you is the time of idle prattle with those about the hall in the mornings; you’re quick to feed and dress yourself in another unassuming outfit, and you carry silver coins and a couple of pemmican wafers in your pocket in case you’re in need of a snack or spare change. You depart across the Arcanum green and head there in a hurry, looking out over your shoulder once you reach the top of the Archive steps – before you enter the building – as if to take in, once more, all that this place has to offer. The sun is warm, wind gently tousling your hair; it is a pleasant and temperate day.

The winding hallways of the Archive lead you to a set of stairs that takes you up and around the back, higher than the remainder of the administrative facilities. The handful of offices here face inward, and their rear walls are comprised of wide glass windows such that they look down over the whole of the Archive. His office is front and center, a gold plaque adjacent the door: “Dr. Rowan Varator – Dean of Students – Head of Arcanum Affairs”.

The door is partway open; on his desk, his notebook is open beside him and he’s scribbling figures in a file, with a number of like-looking files resting beside him.

“Dr. Varator?”

“Amelia.” He says, but doesn’t look up for more than an instant.

“Do you have a moment?”

“Of course.” He nods. “Do come in.”

You cross into the rather lavish office and sit down in a comfortable chair across the desk. There’s a pause that seems deliberate as he continues writing for a moment before looking up to meet your gaze.

“I take it you’ve finished course registration?” He asks.

> “I have. I was hoping you could notify my instructors to give me a bit of leeway.”
> “I wanted to talk to you about testing out of a course.”
> “Do you know of any professors that have independent studies available? I need to pick up some additional credits.”
> “I know you were once an academic advisor. Do you have any private study opportunities available?”

Alright, because the other one was in sage, this is the new thread for our great scouting into Davenport.

You are Xavier Lewis, a doctor turned soldier that had escaped the undead city of Chicago with his lifelong friend Peyton, and his new Biker friend Andrew. Together, they had looted some stores, "found a gas tanker" and arrived at their new sanctuary, which was a small town by the name of Stronghurst, Illinois. It was ruled by a religious fanatic named Abraham, that had you go into the destroyed town of Burlington to get some books, and blow up a horde in front of a Highschool where you found medicine, a new doctor, and a beautiful helicopter.

That night, you had poisoned the old leader, Abraham, as you had thought his religious ideas were dangerous, and installed General Tristus, a brilliant man with big ideas for this brave new world. Now, you are the General's right hand man, and there is much to do. You are now preparing to head to Davenport to see what became of the Army Base there.

[1 week after the Final Day]

It’s a little funny, because you never imagined yourself as some kind of badass. You were a pretty good student, played on the Baseball team as a hitter, went to prom, but you were always just a little above average. Everytime you go outside and you look around, you see scared people, gently sobbing, some praying, others just completely strung out from a lack of sleep. You? Lately you’ve been sleeping better than you ever have. Now you wouldn’t call yourself a psychopath or anything of the sort, more of an opportunist. You are now the right hand to a man who may be leading Humanity’s last hope for civilization, and that’s not something you would have dreamed of a month ago working in that shitty clinic.

Once again, it’s another beautiful day, and you wake with the beautiful smell of cooking meat drifting through the open windows. You quickly wash yourself with cold water from a wash bin that Andrew brought in. The General is looking into getting heated communal showers, but for now, it’s the fucking 1600’s way. You strap on your slightly dirtied boots, put on your flannel shirt, and carry your tactical vest and ballistic vest out to where breakfast is being made for the people being sent on scouting missions today.

You walk over to the benches and plop your ass down on the dewed seats, and begin to dig into the meal that has been placed there for you. It’s two scrambled eggs, 4 pieces of bacon, a biscuit, and a nice and surprisingly cool glass of milk. All in all, if you were to die today, at least your last meal would be nice. You finish off your meal, and leave to join the gathering crowd of people forming around a certain tired looking General.

“I won’t tell you how dangerous this will be, as you probably know already, but you are integral to the survival of this town. I won’t bore you with some fucking speech before you risk your lives, so I gave you a fantastic breakfast, and I wish you all luck.” The General finishes his short speech, and patts the backs of a few of the more worried looking men. He sees you and gives you a slight smile, all the confirmation you need.

It takes a few minutes, but you gather up the men that are going to be with you for however long it takes. There is Blake, a young man from Davenport himself before he moved a few years ago, Miller, your trainer, there is Jacob, a middle aged farmer, John, a plumber from Stronghurst, and Harry, he came from britain and was some regional manager for a tractor supply store.

There can be two in each truck, so who is going to be your road buddy?

>Miller, he could share his war stories
>Blake, he could tell you about Davenport
>Jacob, he could probably tell you all there is about farming
>John, he could tell you all about the wonderful world of plumbing
>Harry, maybe he could teach you a thing or two about tractors

The Scooby-Doo villain Quest.

You arrive at the usual time and park your car in the usual place and take the usual path around Funland. It's another day of work.

The noise of the crowd gathered at the museum at the front of the park dies down as you head around the chain-link fence that guards the park proper. There's more than chain guarding the park, security measures only you and a handful of others know about. Invisible laser tripwires, magnetic arresting devices, mutated shrubbery...its enough to catch most trespassers. Most anyway.

No one is allowed past the museum into the actual park. The boss keeps the park running. The lights shine, the rides move, the music boxes play music all like it was on opening day. And she's determined to keep it all exactly like it was on opening day.

Past the gate, past the tea cup ride, past the volcano-kaiju themed roller coaster, into a back door of the haunted house, past the kitchen, turn the grandfather clock in the library to midnight, and then finally, finally the elevator to the labs.

You've thought of talking to the boss about making an easier path to work, maybe something like a submarine picking you up from the beach. But you've thought of talking to the boss about a lot of things and every time you've chickened out. Meekness is in your nature.

You take a seat on the elevator's luxury couch and prepare to select a floor.

Your personal lab is located on the 13 floor right on the seabed. You're nearing a breakthrough on your powered armor...but the boss did tell you that you've been too much a recluse lately. Even by her standards. Maybe you ought to say hi to some of your coworkers around the labs?

>Go directly to work. The boss wants the suit finished ASAP

>Go socialize a little. The boss wants you to have a life. Or something like a life.

Years after the return of an unmatched demonic curse, children cried in pain and loss as they were tortured by their captors and piled into groups, simply known as the Factions. The only school in the city, a last beacon of hope in a falling world, was soon overcome by the force of Chaos. In the last line of defense, the deities sent an array of children, known as the Champions of Youth, to reclaim the world and purge the holy land of The One, a divine being of the curse that swallowed the planet whole.
However, in the realm's time of desperate need, the heroes had vanished, and there was nothing left to stop The One from the consumption of all law and control in the world. It had become an eternal god.
It is September 17th, 2031, six years after the prodigal return of Chaos. The bells in your quaint little town ring, signalling the start of the day. As you all shuffle out of your covers and blankets, you look into the mirror. For fourteen years old, you don't look so bad, stud/studette...

Update 26 - Metaphorically Dusting the Shelves
+Magic damage is no longer dealt on a die times ten (d6, d8, etc), but now by the cover of their max damage (d60, d80, etc).
+Light and Dark Magic subgroups have now been made.
+Dungeons - Randomly generated, room-by-room strongholds that you can travel through for loot! The deeper you go, the harder it gets.
+New Currency: Ancient Coins! Use them to buy interesting, unique magic artifacts or notable loot. (Note that they cannot be exchanged for money.)
=Enemies and items are being worked on as this comes out, but I just wanted to squeeze this leak in.
-Soul Steal and related spells have been nerfed, somewhat. Instead of a full character wipe, it removes EXP, depending on the level of the caster(s) and the power of the spell.

"This drive is taking forever" is all you can think as the sun sets behind the treeline. Looking out the window you can see a mountain range peaking over the trees. The woods all around the quiet road sure are different from the usual hustle and bustle back up North.

It was really nice of your great uncle to let you stay with him while your parent's worked out the divorce. The two of you haven't talked much all drive. He has been content to listen to his jazz collection and you aren't sure this oldsmobile has a working radio.

You're starting to hope he didn't leave his glasses off when looking at a map earlier. His place may be on the other side of the state, but it isn't like he is in a different one and traffic wasn't even bad on the highway.

A sign reading "Entering Birchland" is the last thing you see before the car enters a tunnel through a hill. With only faint lighting there isn't much to see, so you close your eyes to relax them. But when you open them you aren't sitting in the car anymore.

What you see before you feels familiar. Like you dreamed of it before, but couldn't remember it until now.

Three years ago, the warrior race known as the Saiyans were annexed into Emperor Freeza's armies. Since that day, the Saiyans have acted as the emperor's loyal servents, sent first onto dozens of worlds, exterminating all who oppose Lord Freeza's rule. As mighty conquerors, destroying all who have stood against them, the Saiyans quickly made a name for themselves as some of Freeza's most powerful and loyal subjects.

Welcome to Saiyan Conqueror Quest, currently Age 734 of the "canon" timeline. You the players will be able to influence events throughout the Dragonball/Z timeline and possibly change the course of history, depending on your choices and the will of the dice.

Quest rules:
>10 minute vote times or first vote to 3 wins, any ties decided by my roll
>first 3 rolls only, best of 3
>I hold final say on any decisions; write-ins are allowed if not too meta or game-breaking.

Strap in and let's have some fun.

Last time on Saiyan Conqueror Quest:
Karn, Leyas, Meloka. and Tatsu were sent to the world of Dun on an extermination mission. After butchering some of the locals, Karn nearly met his end at the hands of a temple warrior, until he was saved by Leyas. After a night's rest and an impressive zenkai boost, the Saiyans pushed onwards, crushing all in their path. This led to a final showdown between the Dun-ites' lizard god and Oozaru Karn.

After a delicious victory feast, the Saiyans spent a full week eradicating the remaining natives of Dun, then reentered their pods and made the long five month return trip back to base. As we return to our victorious Saiyan conquerors, they are just now landing back on Freeza Planet 79.

Pods landing back in their docking bays on Freeza Planet 79, it feels good to finally get out and stretch your legs after five long months spent in that pod.
"Welcome back to base sir!" The platform worker greets you, as you step out of your pod. "I trust your assignment has been completed?"
"Yes, let Commander Cui know we were successful, and if he needs us we'll be in the mess hall."
"Very good sir. The Commander wants you to know you have about two months before your next mission."
"Two months? Very well." you reply, walking away. And with that, you lead your team from the platform, another team rushing up to take the pods out on their mission. As you walk inside the complex, you turn to lead your team down to the mess hall. Or you would have, if Leyas and Meloka didn't immediately take off at a full sprint at the first smell of food.

"But how will you convince the Princess to aid you in finding the crystal?"

This quest, as the title suggests, takes place in the world of Dragon Ball. You're playing as a twenty-seven year old man named Tofoo, and will adventure through the story of the Dragonball series alongside characters such as Goku, Yamcha, Bulma, Tien, and many others. Through your actions, you can make significant changes to the story, and perhaps even become the strongest fighter on Earth.

>Rules

At the end of each update you'll have ten minutes to vote on options. Write-ins are allowed, but I do reserve the right to veto them.

In the event of a draw, the option to receive the next vote wins

Rolls will be used on certain occasions, such as attempting a technique for the first time or attempting something extremely difficult. You will have three rolls, and if one succeeds, you succeed. There are no crits.

Rolls are made AFTER an option wins, not during the voting process

I hope everyone has fun.

In a dimly lit warehouse, you finally complete your first ritual! The components you painstakingly gathered and paid for disappear with a flash of Arcane energy, before the energy is sucked into the inner ring of the circle.
"I-I did it!" You exclaim, exhilaration is your only sensation as the item you summoned finally shows itself.

Okay, so here's how the game works. You play as a fresh Mage. As far as you know, you are the only practitioner of magic in your world. And the only ability you have is a ritual to summon 1 Non-Magical item of less than 11 pounds from a fictional realm. Yes, fictional realm, like a kunai from Naruto, a chest from treasure island, a plasma caster from Predator, Etc. Now, two important choices ahead.

What is your setting? This determines the scope of your powers, how much fiction you have access to, and the difficulty.

>Fantasy- You might be the first mage, but plenty of magical entities exist. Monsters, Dragons, etc.
Low Fiction, High Magic growth, VERY low tech. High difficulty,

>Modern- You live in an urban environment, a town 100,000 strong. Thankfully, your powers don't cause electronics to fail or anything.
Very High Fiction, Low Magic Growth, Medium Tech. Normal Difficulty.

>Sci fi- You learned Magic in transit from the northern Quadrant of the Galaxy to the Southern Quadrant, while working as a Senior Technician. Thankfully, you didn't have to fight off any of Humanity's numerous enemies...
High Fiction, Very Low Magic Growth, Very High Tech. High Difficulty.
>Write in.
What did you summon? Your spell lets you summon 1 non-magical item weighing up to 11 pounds from a fictional realm.

First option with 4 votes wins. Otherwise I will call it when I get tired of waiting.

P.S. I suggest offering a more specific setting in the category you choose.
P.P.S. Dice Rolls, when used, are Best of 3 d 100 + bonuses Vs a DC.

Previously... Miho Tsukada, the Heavenly Child and the chosen warrior of Sacrifice, reached into the depths of the abyss and made an unexpected ally – if the new god-queen of Dis is truly the ally she claimed to be. Knowledge begets knowledge, and a new secret of the Heavenly Child was soon revealed. Is death really inevitable for one chosen by the Great Virtue of Sacrifice? If so, will it be a good death or a vile one? In the darkness of a Sentinel shrine, new answers may reveal themselves!

You have a little experience with AIs. Not as much as Maika, true – although you suspect that few people in Ark City have as much AI experience as she does – but you're no novice. You've spent enough time around them to look past their inhumanity, to shake off the instinctual revulsion of speaking with a soulless machine. In SAE's case, you've even started to see them as more than simple machines.

When you hear that grating, obviously synthesised tone, however, your experience suddenly deserts you. All the fear and uncertainty, the disgust and unease, comes rushing back in at the sound of that inhuman voice.

And yet, when it repeats that simple order, a command for you to approach, you are helpless to resist. Approaching the church altar, you brush back the curtains and...

Then you gasp, fighting back the urge to turn tail and flee from the church.

It would be impossible to say exactly what it is about that bland metal cylinder that leaves you so shaken, but something about it just repulses you. The... object is a cylinder of dully gleaming steel, almost featureless save for a set of lenses at the top, some ports – you couldn't even begin to guess their function – and a small screen set in the middle. Garlands of dried, papery flowers have been draped across the cylinder, and incense sticks burn at its base.

As you study it, so too does the cylinder study you in response. A light shines out from one of those lenses, playing across your head. Letters flicker across the screen, too fast for you to make anything out, and then the machine speaks.

[Miho Tsukada,] the AI announces, [Person of interest.]

“I'm getting pretty sick of hearing that,” you manage to mutter, “I'm starting to think that I'd rather be a normal, boring human being.”

[Do you strive against your destiny, then?] the AI asks in reply, [Do you struggle, even knowing that it is futile?]

“That's...” you begin, cutting your answer short and glaring at the cylinder, “What kind of AI are you, to ask a question like that? I thought your kind worked with probabilities and statistics, not destiny.”

[I am the Oracle, the intermediary between man and God,] the AI answers you, [All life is a tapestry, and all men have their place within it. To struggle against the flow of destiny is a sin. To stay within one's place is a virtue.] The screen flickers for a moment, the image of a single silver eye forming and fixing you with its cold glare. [So the gods have decreed,] the Oracle adds, [Is that not your faith, Miho Tsukada?]

“I don't know if it's MY faith any more,” you find yourself admitting.

[You are lost,] the Oracle states, [Do you wish for guidance?]

“Guidance?” you repeat, “Why would you help me?”

[Because Monad is a caring god. Compassion, Logic, Creativity, Ambition... these are Monad's four faces,] the Oracle's single eye flickers a little, the image distorting before returning to a cohesive whole, [You would be welcomed with open arms, Miho Tsukada. You could be given everything that you could ever desire. You could even worship your own gods in whichever manner you choose. All that we ask is your loyal service.]

“Right,” you mutter, “My unquestioning obedience. Of course.”

[And what do your own gods demand?] the AI counters, [Are they kinder masters?] When you cannot answer that, lapsing into silence instead, the Oracle continues to make its point. [We would not demand an answer immediately,] it informs you, [Although you have already been given a great deal of leniency. You may return here at any time. I will order the guards to allow you inside. Consider our offer.]
