"Father...
Are you mad?"
Sofia asks you as you exit the Garganta and step back into Hueco Mundo.

"What?
Oh... no pumpkin.
Well, not at you anyway.
It's just that those shinigami managed to push most of my buttons."

Your daughter hugs your arm tight and lets out a quiet whimper.
Noticing this you stop in your track and turn to stand in front of her.
Kneeling down you place your hand on her head and pat her slightly.

"Don't worry, okay?
Everything is fine.
I'm... fine."

She quickly hugs you.
"You promise?"
She looks at you with her puppy dog eyes.

"Yeah! I promise!"
Letting out a soft smile you stand up again.
"Let's go. Before mom gets mad at us for missing lunch."

"Right!"

Leading your daughter by the hand you quickly get home and casually open the front door.
"We're home!"

Within but a few moments Harribel comes into the room and greets you.
"Welcome."

"Mama!"
Sofia rushes to her mother.

Harribels eyes practically radiate with happiness as Sofia goes in for a hug.
After embracing her for a bit she looks at you.
"Where have you guys been?"

"It's uh... complicated."

"I met my brother today!"

Tia raises an eyebrow at that.
"Huh?"

"Well... it all started when we went to get some ice cream.
But we quickly ended up in Soul Society for some... bonding."

"I see."
Harribel looks back at her daughter.
"I hope you kept dad out of harm Sofia."

"There was a mean man... I whacked him."

"That's good!
And I hope you also kept a close eye on dad."

"Yup. He did nothing bad."

"Glad to hear it!"
She speaks to Sofia but you can just feel those few passing glances she gave you in the meantime.
"Well in that case I hope you two had fun.
But it's about time we ate.
Sofia, please go and wash your hands."

"On it."

Once your little girl is off to the kitchen your wife comes up to you and kisses you on the cheek.
"Welcome home."
She pauses for a moment there.
"So... what was that about a bad man?"

"Ugh...
Don't even ask.
I'll tell you at the table."

During the meal you went on to tell the tale of your encounter with the so called 0 division to Harribel.
She patiently listened to you in the downtime between bites.
Meanwhile Sofia just quietly nibbled on her food while reading a book under the table.
After getting to the end of your story Tia looks at you with a questioning gaze.

"So it never ends."

"Trouble with the Soul Society?
I'm just glad we got this much downtime..."

"No, not that.
It seems like every time we think that all danger has been quelled, all plans have been thwarted a new sect of people shows up.
This is like the tenth organization that's out for blood."

You sigh and look at your wife.
"The world has no shortage of idiots dear.
Best we can do is keep stepping on their necks until the rest learns that crossing us is not a smart thing to do."

Tia finishes off her meal and then cleans her mouth meticulously as to avoid any bits of food getting under her mask.
"Guess our old mentality is not going to die out easily.
Still... being the biggest fish in the pond worked out so far."

"It's not all bad.
For starters the Soul Society seems to be more inclined to work WITH us rather than against us."

"Saving their hide so many times must be paying off."
She glances quickly at Sofia.
"Be careful sweetie.
Don't get any food on your book."

"Right."

You smile at the peaceful scene and feel happy that you can have such a normal meal even after all the things you've been through.
But as you are about to finish off your meal and thank the chef you hear loud knocking on your door.
Sighing your frustration you stand up from your almost completely empty plate and grumble something about murdering someone.

Forcefully you practically tear open the door, not bothering to hide your frustration about having the moment ruined.
"What is it?"
You snap at the Exequias member before you.

The guy must be new, either in the job as a whole or in this sector because he's shaking like a dry leaf in the autumn wind.
"S-s-s-sorry to bother you Sir!
B-b-but Chief Marsh sends a message to you. It's urgent!"

Taking a deep breath you calm your nerves if only to make the guy before you less scared.
"Very well. What does he want?"

"W-we've detected an outsider Sir!"

"Outsider?
Who? Where?"
You ask him, angry once more.

"It's a shinigami Sir!
Unimaginably powerful.... and black."

Your eyes go wide at hearing this.
"Does he wear a pair of goofy sunglasses and has part of his hair shaven?"

"Y-Yes Sir!
...
How did you know?!"

You sigh in exasperation.
Realizing that if it's who you think it is then he must want to talk with you.
Because otherwise he'd be here to "clean up" and he wouldn't be waiting around for that.

>Very well, I'll take a look.

The mountains of Vinstraga, the northwestern continent, on which Sosalia lays, have been inhabited by strange peoples since the earliest recorded histories of the region, before even the dawn of Nauk Imperial more than two millennia past. Such records are rare, as the Nauk did a thorough job of obliterating the history of the continent before they arrived upon it, but even these incredibly rare windows into the past do not give any indication of the history of the green haired mountain folk, nor where they came from.

Most of the history of the people who call themselves “Nief’yem” come from what they are willing to share of their own records. These records often heavily mix folklore with what could possibly be historical fact, and few if any are consistent with one another in finer details, but they all indicate what the Nief’yem will tell most when asked; that long ago, they ruled these lands.

-----

You are Lieutenant Richter Von Tracht, self-exiled but no less, in your opinion, dutiful officer of panzers for the Army of the Archduchy of Strossvald. You and a company of volunteers made up of your own platoon, picked men of elite riflemen known as Bat Company, and a few other misplaced miscreants were on a mission to venture deep into unknown territory and retrieve more than two hundred kidnapped hostages of your mother nation.

The journey had taken you further from home and comfort than you ever had been before. Once you could easily carry yourself with the pride, if not necessarily the proper prestige, of a son of nobility. Now you had been forced to assume the guise of a Sosaldtian mercenary; practically a low class criminal.

Of all the roles you could have played, this was one of the least ideal ones you could think to play. Perhaps your distaste for it was what helped you play it relatively well.
You were currently in the midst of a mountain road in East Valsten, after speeding through the enemy nation of Valsten to the west with all possible haste. There was apparently to be a war between East and West Valsten soon, but from where you were, there was no way to tell. Besides the occasional creaking of stone and tumbling of pebbles, the mountains were eerily quiet. This combined with the thick blanket of fog was quite disconcerting even before consideration of gigantic truck eating crabs.

That had been something you had set out on this mission mentally unprepared to deal with, although despite the loss of the truck and most of your food supplies, there was no loss of life, so you supposed that you couldn’t have been expected to deal with the situation any better.

Soon after that, while the sun wasn’t visible through the white mist, the hue of day began to change to orange and pink, signaling its coming end. Fortuitously, a mountain village lay on a side path, discovered by your ghostly companion, Emma.

The concept of driving a column of tanks and trucks through a misty mountain road down an illusory path, encountering gigantic crabs, led by a little girl’s ghost would have seemed utterly mad to you not two weeks earlier. It was good that you had turned out to have a special talent for adapting to the unknown, since even stranger things had happened to you than today’s ordeals.

The village didn’t take long to get to, despite being off the road. It overlooked the path from a slight elevation; no sign introduced its name.
“You said you saw nobody here?” you asked Emma, who was floating by you above your m/32 panzer.

“Nope!” Emma chirped. Considering that she was a ball of blue and white flame, one could be forgiven for not assuming that she was a (dead) young woman until she spoke aloud. “Good thing too, since you all look simply ravishing. Like you’d ravish anybody you came across.”

Emma was also a filthy minded potty-mouthed seagull, but you could tolerate certain things when they had a proportional amount of utility.

“Good work,” you ignored Emma’s not so subtle comment on your appearance. You were masquerading as sellsword-bandits, it wasn’t something you could help anyways.

“I try.” Emma said haughtily in return.

The village itself was a collective of stone brick buildings with tiled roofs. While the walls looked appropriate enough, the tiles did not. Presumably they had been imported, as they had a modern edge that clashed harshly with the more rustic and brutal architecture.

The village appeared to go on into the mist, the ground sloping gently down as though at the edge of a shallow bowl. The very edge seemed to have enough room for all of your troops and vehicles, although perhaps it was worth looking further?

>Explore further; best not to be surprised by anything you should have seen coming.
>Secure a small perimeter. It’s not like there should be anybody here, and if there is, it’d be better to not be invasive.

>Explore the village with Malachi, Jorgen, Emma and a couple of infantrymen
>Have the rest secure a small perimeter on the edge of the village
>Make sure they know not to try and loot something
>>
You quickly got everybody unloaded and up to speed on your current plans. With it growing dark, you’d rather not risk driving the mountain roads at night, and instead chose to wait for morning to come once more.

“I’m sure it doesn’t need to be said that we aren’t looting anything around here,” you said lowly to your collective officers.

“Some men already poked around a bit,” Captain Honnrieg slouched against an uneven stone brick wall of a hut, “There’s nothing to loot, not right here, at least. These places have been abandoned for some time. The homes are empty as a widow’s bed.”

“…I see.” You processed that metaphor, while also wondering at how Bat Company managed to begin poking around so quickly. “How long do you think?”

“There’s no growth on the walls, hardly dust,” Honnrieg dug around the edges of a door with his foot, “Can’t have been more than a couple of weeks. The people around here took their time leaving, packed up everything in an orderly manner. No signs of a hurry.”

You could only guess that it was because of this place’s proximity to the border. Mountain campaigns were particularly miserable and nasty fighting, and any permanent settlements, even small ones, were vital footholds in terrain that was hostile to mass maneuvers.

“Give me a couple of your men,” you asked Honnrieg, “Can you set up camp here on the edge of the village? I’m going to see what else is here.”
Honnrieg grabbed the first two men who came when he called, which was fine. You weren’t very picky when it came to potential forceful persuaders, and they would balance out the two who were members of your crew. Tough as Malachi and Jorgen were, one pillaged New Nauk and the other thoroughly destroyed it whenever they spoke. Ever mindful of strange occurrences, you decided to bring your resident ghost, as well.

As you wander through the astral fields in search of something you come across a couple of interesting things! Okay, well one interesting thing, but still seeing a soul that's only 20% there? That's not something you see everyday, only like twice every week. Wounder what the other 80% of the soul's up to.

However, that'll have to wait, because you just found some interesting looking ghosts. And by that you mean, they're all dressed in knights armor shouting over each other! Still pretty interesting. And probably lucky that you found anything out here that isn't mourning it's death

Titans Quest, takes place in the DC universe and focuses on Teen Titans team. In particular it focuses on you, Adam Issacs, a new member of the team who has been active in the cape community for a little over a month. Currently you have been given an extremely minor leadership role with in the group. As the quest goes on you might remain on the team to as a mentor or even leader, move onto the Justice League, or go solo either as a hero or villain. Maybe you’ll fuck up big and wind up drafted on the Suicide Squad. You might even save the world here and there, maybe even land a date land another date.

The Titans are a New York based team of former sidekicks/young adult heroes who have decided to help train and support teenagers/new heroes just starting out on their own. Naturally while this quest is based on the DC comics universe, things are different. Superheros haven been around since forever, especially since WWII, but the Justice League has only been around a little less than ten years. The Teen Titans, have been active now for eleven months and are a little obscure except to news hounds, New Yorkers, and super hero fanatics. On the broader scale, a lot of big villains and heroes haven’t made their debut. Darkseid and the rest of the New Gods are a mystery, Trigon is a myth, and Booster Gold is still a washed up security guard a couple of centuries into the future.

Rushing towards the ‘hidden’ big tent here is a lot less sexy and way more difficult than the Justice League or even Nightwing gave you the impression of. You are running through a frantic, maniac crowd desperate as drowned men, hurrying and scurrying to save their own lives in the opposite direction. You swam against the crowd’s current fearing that at any moment that you’d either be swept up in it or arrive too late to stop the Brotherhood from committing a massacre against the Circus of the Strange for whatever reason they ordained or planned. Maybe the world would be better off with Professor Pyg and his gang of ruffians but for some reason it felt wrong for them to be wiped off the face of the Earth, so you ran anyway.

You approach the red and yellow, grinning to be honest despite the severity of the situation. This mission had been a big opportunity to prove yourself from the get go, but now a bigger chance to prove yourself had opened itself up. Hey maybe you’d get yourself a nice fluff piece in a paper down here? Maybe you might be one of the leaders of the team like Starfire or Cyborg? You’re moving on up and doing cool things in the world.

Both as the rest of the Titans’ run up to your side, Elastic Girl coughs loudly over the crowd screaming and crying at the top of the lungs.

“What about the new fish?Terra hasn’t been on an active mission before. And M’gnn hasn’t even been trained to do this yet” Elastic Girl says in a calm monotone voice. Like a professional in much more mundane field asking an industry question about the new interns.

“Hey I was active in Europe before the Titans took me in!” Terra interjects

“I’m not a kid . I’m 49 in your earth years” M’ggn adds.

Your name is William and you are a mercenary, a rather successful one at that. At least you consider yourself such. You aren’t dead, you’re not starving, your gun works, you have plenty of ammo, armor and most of all you have coworkers you can count on. One of them, your Boss Morrigan, is probably the most helpful. She explains everything for you, especially all the nice things like how you aren’t going to get beaten or shot or how she actually wants to help you. You! She wants to help you! Such a thought had never entered your mind before.

Currently you are in bed with Morrigan, at least you think you are. It’s the last thing you remember. You’re drifting in and out of sleep at the moment, on the edge of waking up but still dreaming a little bit.

Your dreams are like normal, a mix of light and dark things that alternately call you towards them and then push you away. On the other edge of your consciousness you hear words being spoken, some of them from the nearby source of warmth that you wrap your arms around.

What do you focus on?

Might run late today and pick it up tomorrow morning, we'll see.

Last time, the monotony of a long-term patrol was broken when you discovered one of the human colonies on your patrol route - barely advanced enough for spaceflight - was decimated by an unknown number of unknown enemies. You moved in to find a strange, ovoid spacecraft approximately twice your mass launching thousands of pods down to the planet. After a short battle in which the alien craft used unknown weaponry, you managed to destroy it, but found all traces of humanity already wiped out and massive colonies of spider/ant things taking shape. You chose to bombard a few of them from orbit, but that was cut short by six more enemy vessels jumping into the system. Deciding that discretion was the better part of valour, you immediately burned hard back for your Order's Chapterhouse.

It takes almost a dozen jumps to reach the Chapterhouse, a straight week of hard burns and hurried transitions. Though FTL jumps are effectively instantaneous, often systems have to be traversed along the way- jump points only appear where they will, and often not where one needs. Still, the Prowler's drive was designed for long-term use, even if your reactor mass is starting to get worryingly low by the time you arrive.
In fact, you're almost prepared to see the Chapterhouse besieged by the same ships you saw tear Avalon apart, but as you transition back to normal space, you get the comforting ping of a navigation beacon in lonely orbit near the jump point. After checking your lightspeed sensors to make sure you're not too late, you light off your drives and burn hard down the gravity well of the Chapterhouse.

It hasn't changed much, to your surprise, but then it's only been nine months. The Chapterhouse was discovered by Grand Master Turtullian almost six centuries ago, and it has been the home of the Order of Tyr ever since. The system's single airless planetoid became the Order's home, and its single massive gas giant the source of much of its fuel. The system's dense asteroid belts have contributed to the growth of the Order, and you have never been more glad to see the massive Lagrange battlestations and the automated defence fleets.

As soon as you get a chance, you send off an abridged report to the Chapterhouse and settle in for the burn. Several hours later you receive a reply- from Grand Master Turtillian, no less.
"It's good to see you home safe, Dauntless. If you need repairs or rearming, proceed to the chapter shipyards. Shipmaster Flavius has something for you. If not, report to the Chapterhouse as soon as possible."
It's not like the Grand Master to be so... laconic. How strange. The worry that abated when you found your home system still safe comes back in full force. Could you have been too late? Have one of your Knight-Brothers been damaged or worse, wiped out?

>Well, you took damage and expended most of your torpedoes. Head straight to the shipyards.
>You took some damage, but you're fine for now. Burn hard for the Chapterhouse itself and report to the Grand Master.

Later Tonight, there will be a trial game for [World Tree], a party based skirmish where each player takes control of a single adventurer. As a successor to the Floors name, it uses a retouched system that will solve the problems its predecessor had. Players must work to explore the roots of the World Tree, a generational phenomenon that connected the world to all others. However they must pace themselves as there are many floors to a dungeon and return trips must be accounted for.

" A Scholar Looking:
For hearty adventurers experienced or new to explore a recent phenomenon that is [Dungeons], one has been sighted in a small hamlet by Avalon, will want for the company and can offer strategic services, and first rights to the loot "

OH SHIT NIGGER(s) it's an adventure about killing vampires n shit.

3 vampire hunters, 1 little girl and a robutt, is going to infiltrate a vampire castle to kill the head vampire there for casting a spell than kept the world at perpetual night time.

While on the Vampires' side there's Bob the Vampbeast given the mission to stop these hunters.

The hunters have just cleared another floor of the castle and are now at the bottom of the stairs leading to the next.

Each character needs at least 1 player to be the voices in their head to tell them what to do n' shit.

Just name yourself something with the highlighted title under the character to identify which team you're going with. Example: Regular Hunter Faggot -> Controls Oswell the regular Hunter

Need at least 1 player for each dude, DOESN'T mean each character is limited to 1 player.

The more players each character has, the more rerolls that team gets.

The Castle of Brausrburge, where the vampiric royal family lives and spends most of their endless time. It doesn't look as foreboding as it feels, what with its white marble walls and shining windows that seem to just create light. The flowers covering the hill under it certainly don't fill ones mind with terror or dread, and that statues might be creepy but aren't all statues like that? Let, knowing what I know now, just looking at it makes my stomach sink and my heart go cold. My little sister is in their, its the most likely place for her to be now, and so its my next stop to go looking for her. But...but its filled with vampires, and from what I understand and know. Those are some of the most...well monsterous monsters, at least the Millers are from how everyone talks about them...at least the ones who are scared of them...and fear does make things a bit muddled doesn't it?

Still they be doing something to be giving people a reason to fear them. Which isn't too surprising, I mean they made this country what it is today I've heard and scare off most of the trouble, so it isn't a bad thing but...But they have my little sister, and if they don't then they did at some point. And as stupid as it is, as dumb as I know it is, I am going to have to go up there and go looking or asking or I'll never be able to look at myself in the mirror again. Probably soon to, since the idea of poor alice being with people like that makes me stomach turn and fills my head with...unpleasant thoughts.

A sudden shake rips me from my thoughts and I see Lyra's eyes looking at me worried and annoyed at the same time.

"Look I know what you're thinking, but could we at least...at least plan it first and not just run in there?" She asks, nervously squinting her eyes as I frown deeper "Just give me a day or two the gather information"

"If we're going in there, can I beat that guys ass?" Juniper says bluntly, growling as she finishes speaking

Holi just pulls her hat over her eyes shaking in her boots.

What do I do?
[] Say I'm not going in there, I'm just thinking
[] Eh, you guys can follow me if you want, I'm going in
[] Ask Holi if she's alright
[] Use the orbs (and give me time to make a paste bin if you give them to the other two, may take awhile)
[] Agree that we have to plan, but we should go back to my room for now
[]Shrug and go see if there's any chaos around.
[] Mess with them a bit
[] wonder if the miller's would read a letter if I sent one...
[] write in

Sorry about not making the sheets, but I just forgot with everything that's been going on lately. I am so sorry guys.

Oh and if you guys have anything to ask, ask away.

Patience...and maybe simplicity, would be the best of the day.

And I just wanted to say thanks for running HM. I know I do every thread, but your speech over Twitter made me want to say something. Just know that you are a great GM and a great person, and that you've helped me out of some dark places in my life. And personally, I don't think you failed Da'ta (I'd say the same for One Piece but I didn't keep up with that one), you just need time to bring up the next part to your standards. Now, that's enough blog posting from me, let's sneak into a castle and probably die!

OCCUPIED SYVLIA, 2812 AD

Under the rule of a dictator who crowned himself Emperor, the Anurians, only recently caught in a devastating have united and begun expanding, claiming land for their new Empire.

The Emperor of the Anurians, Drexel the First, is uncontested master of the 4th Galactic Quadrant and his puppet Qadash Aadhya sits on the throne of the Kingdom of Faerlyn.

The Principality of Sylvia, bordering Faerlyn, is being invaded by the combined forces of the Anurians and the Faerlyns and calls for aid from the Greater Galactic Commonwealth.

Seeing as their buffer states have been falling one by one to the Anurian advance, the unprepared Commonwealth has no choice but to bring what it has to bear and intervene on the behalf of the Principality.

Now the Commonwealth forces under the command of General Gallagher rest at the border system of Kraledo before advancing into enemy space.

Lastly I apologize for not being able to update much and for this thread being a month later. I was so busy with my new job that I just ended up collapsing in bed every time I got home. I'll repost the updates from the abandoned second thread and post the planned update that I never got to post.

>[x] Identify yourself and get to business

While you would love to mess around and spook the man who just fired off a warning shot, there was a war to fight and you needed to get down to business as soon as possible.

"Captain James Gardner, the man stuck commanding your sorry asses!" you shout back "And your Lieutenant as well!"

The man leans forward to get a better view of you and Flemming. Realizing his mistake, he quickly clambered down from the barn roof and ran to the fence to unlock it for you.

Now that he was closer, you could see more of the rather tall man's features. He was darker skinned and rather tall but on the thin side if you were honest. He had a 5-o'clock shadow and his face and hands were dirty, as if he had been doing some physical labor recently.

He quickly got the fence opened and stepped aside to allow you and Flemming to enter. You considered breaking his balls a little for shooting first (at his superior no less) and asking questions later but decided not to. You were at war here and there were more important things to do.

The sharp intake of breath you heard coming from Flemming's direction indicated that he thought otherwise. Before he could open his mouth, you held your hand out.

"There are more important things to do than yelling at an over vigilant watchman Lieutenant," you said.

Surprisingly, Flemming headed your words. Perhaps he was simply too tired from the march to bother arguing with you.

"Now who might you be?" you ask the soldier.

"Rifleman Miles Lee, sir!" the soldier says.

Well now you have a name to a face.

"Well Rifleman Lee, I could have you punished for your reckless action earlier, but I realize we are fighting a war right now, all our sensors are down and we don't know if the enemy has landed forces on this planet from right under our noses," you say trying to calm him down, seeing how nervous he was "so I'll let this slide this one time. Please be less reckless next time."

"Yes sir, thank you!" Lee says saluting.

"Oh come on now, none of that," you say "I'm a common man, same as you."

Once again, Lee seems embarrassed by his mess up.

"Gardner, while you are a commoner, a certain decorum is expected from an officer, do not become so familiar with the ranks," Flemming pipes up.

You sigh. It seems Flemming has found his voice once again.

"I'll keep it in mind," you say "Now let's meet the rest of this sorry excuse for a company. Could you take us there?"

"Yes sir," Lee says "Follow me."

Lee walks off and you and Flemming follow. Lee leads you to the farmhouse. As you approach it, you hear some yelling from within.

"Anything we should be concerned about?" you ask.

"Ah it's probably nothing," Lee says with resignation.

It mustn't be the first time this has happened. You reach the door and Lee opens it for you. What greets you is a strange sight.

"That rabbit is mine, fair and square little girl!" a burly man who is more hair than person bellows.

"Finders keepers!" a younger voice says.

You look around for the source but have no luck finding it. You lower your line of sight, being clued in by the man mentioning a little girl. Right near your feet is what you assume is the little girl. Dressed in overalls and a flannel shirt, the only hint that the child is female are the girlish pig tails. In her hands, a rabbit leg. Judging from her sticky face and a rabbit leg you see already thrown away, you assume she already ate the other leg.

To the side, you see the other two people in your "company" cheering them on and judging from the money they were holding, likely betting on the outcome of this showdown. One was freckled with short hair, likely even younger than Flemming. The other was the striking image of what you thought of when you pictured an absentminded professor.

"The only thing you'll be finding is a long and unpleasant time out young lady!" the bearlike man said before diving at the girl.

She jumped away with unnatural grace. Now that you look at her longer, you notice that her face is off from a normal human's. The eyes a bit too big, the ears longer, the features longer and more angular. Is she perhaps one of the Sylvians you were here to fight for?

Well you could ponder that later because at the moment, you have a massive man currently heading straight towards you with no way to stop himself with the momentum he had built up.

He bowls right into you and both of you end up outside outside on the dusty ground. The wind is knocked out of your lungs by the large man.

"Oh, what's this then?" the large man says noticing you under him.

He quickly gets up and helps you to your feet, futilely dusting off your uniform.

"Ah well, it would have gotten dirty in the field anyway," he said after seeing that his massive hands were doing a better job knocking the wind out of you than cleaning your uniform.

"Now who might ye be?" he asks.

Flemming stares horrified at this lack of professionalism and the audacity of these mere rank and file soldiers to be so familiar with their commanding officer.

Previously... Miho Tsukada, the Heavenly Child, met with the elusive Eligor Kanzaki, learning the secret history of the Sentinels. She also leaned of the cruel experiments that the Pariah willingly – or perhaps not – subjected herself to. Between the inhuman Zakuro and the machinations of the distant gods, even movie night seemed like it might not be enough to save them. Yet against all odds, the world seemed a brighter place at the end of the night. How long can this last?

>Twitter: https://twitter.com/MolochQM

Maybe you're a fool for feeling optimistic, but things seem to be looking up.

True, you still have the matter of Maika's father to discuss. The fact that he's been manipulating her, talking her into inhumane experiments while seeing her as little more than a means to an end. It's not going to be easy news to break, and that's before considering the fact that she might be... compromised.

True, you still need to tell Emi about her brother, and the fact the was stabbed – slashed, technically, but the end result was much the same – while you were enjoying a movie. Who wounded him, and why, remains unknown. Frankly, you're not sure if you want to know.

True, you still need to tell the others that Kurosawa knows about Zakuro, and her unnatural existence. What sort of trouble might result from that remains to be seen, but you could not, in good conscience, keep it a secret for any longer.

Yet even taking all of that – and a thousand other little fears and anxieties – into account, things are STILL looking better than they were a few days ago.

“Now remember, it's very warm today,” Professor Carrington announces at the end of class, “So, ah, so be sure to stay hydrated!”

A general murmur answers her, with the oppressive heat making a proper response impossible. The whole day has been like this, with a heavy blanket of lethargy hanging over the entire city. Just staying awake through your various lessons was enough of a struggle, but actually paying attention? That was asking a little too much. As you're leaving the classroom, a voice calls out your name.

“Hey, Miho!” Ayane calls out, “Got a question for you.” Grabbing you lightly by the arm, she steers you away from the rest of the crowd and continues in a lower voice. “Back when you were talking with the Council of Twelve, they mentioned some super secret project stuff,” she whispers to you, “What did they call it again?”

“Uh, Looking Glass,” you reply, “It's their way of going into the Umbra, to get rid of Intruders before-”

“Nah, not that one,” Ayane shakes her head, “There was something else, wasn't there?”

“Right, I almost forgot,” you snap your fingers as the memory surfaces in your mind, “Project Alice, they called it. Nebiros was involved, although I don't know anything else about it. It was all very vague and secretive, very mysterious. Why do you ask?”

“Project Alice, right. I knew that sounded familiar...” Ayane mutters to herself, “We meeting up at the shrine later? I gotta run home and fetch something, but I reckon you'll want to see it. So yeah, uh, I'll explain later. I want to check something over.” After giving you a friendly slap on the shoulder, Ayane turns and hurries off, leaving you with nothing but unanswered questions.

“What was that all about?” you wonder aloud.

-

You're not the first person to arrive at the shrine. Emi is there already, and the sight of her causes you to laugh in disbelief. The fact that she arrived first isn't surprising – this is her area, after all – it's what she's doing that takes you by surprise. Her sword is stabbed down into the ground, while the girl herself is balancing – rather precariously – on the tip of the handle.

You couldn't even begin to guess why.

“Miho, hey!” she calls out, swaying perilously as she waves to you, “Nice weather we're... gah!” Losing her balance, she tumbles off her perch and lands heavily, sprawled out in an undignified heap. “Aww...” she groans, rubbing her head as she sits up, “But yeah, nice weather we're having, right?”

“Right,” you agree, in a weak voice. Sometimes, it's best not to ask too many questions.

“Oh yeah, Kasumi was here a while ago. I thought maybe you might have seen her on the way. No? Well, no big deal,” Emi continues, nonchalantly leaning back against her sword, “She wanted to pick something up from her house. I offered to go with her, but she wasn't having any of it. She can be pretty weird at times, huh?”

“I think we all have our moments,” you reply with a smile, “Ayane said she was bringing something as well, so she'll be a little late.”

“Huh. Regular old show and tell here,” the young girl remarks, shielding her eyes against the sun.

“Yeah, uh, I guess you could say that,” you murmur, nodding slowly. With the others absent, this is as good a time as any to mention the first of your numerous issues. “Hey Emi,” you ask, “You seen your brother this morning? How is he?”

“Kaoru? Sure, I saw him. He cooked breakfast for me. I bet you didn't expect it, but he's a pretty good cook when he can be bothered,” she grins fondly, “Course, he gave me a good scolding about last night. I'm too young for that sorta stuff, he says.”

“Well, that's kinda true,” you point out, “Legally speaking, I mean.”

“Bah!” Emi waves away your words, “But yeah. I saw him. He's doing fine – same shit, different day, y'know? Why do you ask?”

>Just curious. Been a while since I've seen him, that's all
>You need to talk to him. Ask him about what happened last night
>Last night, he got hurt pretty bad. I think he's caught up in some kind of trouble, but he won't tell me about it

>Whats up guys? Sorry for my repeated absences.Ive been in and out of the hospital repeatedly, dozing off high dose painkillers and enjoying the lovely fact that I have but 1 eye left.

Last time on undead quest we began getting bolder, attacking Majadin merchants upon the road and slaughtering them. After creating a Winged Aberration from their Leader we then spread our sights further, recklessly doing battle with a scouting party of Kardielheim marauders. Unfortunately their leader had quite a edge on us due to being a shapeshifting berserker and the Ghoul and Wick were lost in battle. Thrane has retreated to the smugglers tunnel to hide as the hated sun has returned. Wounded, weakened and broken... What fate awaits you?

You are the TEMPLAR, a holy knight sent to clear the frontier of monsters and heresy!

Today, you were off with your party to go explore that Ruin that Solaire had so helpfully informed you about. Given how nice and helpful Solaire was, you did not really have any doubts to his sincerity in telling you about such a lucrative area for loot.

However, the Ruin entrance was pretty far into the Frontier, so it was a fairly long journey, going past even the outlying town of Aldenshire. Thankfully though, thanks in no small part to your party's efforts, the roads were safe again and reports of bandit activity had dropped heavily.

Seemed like Morgan was taking advantage of the relative safety to ease off on her scouting, as she was walking pretty close to your side rather than ranging off ahead. She'd been getting pretty close to you like this ever since that one day back at the Monastery.

Of course, this was not lost upon your other companions. Nino kept whispering to Naru, who just shrugged at every suggestion. You were pretty sure the tired cleric knew what was going on, but simply didn't care.

Recap:
Your name is Cassius Axilla, and as a result of being caught preaching an outlawed religion you and your congregation were captured and sent before the court to receive your judgement. You were given two options to choose from: execution, or to enter the arena as a gladiator and to fight for your freedom. You chose to fight, to survive. Upon winning your first bout, you receive yet another choice: to become a guardsman and be employed under the city garrison. This option would give you freedom from the dungeons, however you are still bound by your sentence and escape would only result in your untimely death.

You now find yourself patrolling the city of Ashos as you bide your time. However, your goal is to not merely live but to continue spreading the Word of your religion, a detail that you were strangely permitted under your sentence. Nevertheless, you strive to sew the seed of faith within the populous of this city, and potentially, with the aid of fellow adherents, this entire country.

Every 7th day since your ‘freedom’ you are to return and fight in the arena until you achieve 100 victories. You have 98 left.

>Day 2 (5 days left until arena match)
You awake just before dawn breaks and commence in your morning prayers. You hadn’t the time yesterday due to the abrupt nature of the call and amidst the day’s events, and your only moment of respite was by the end when you had your evening prayer. The barrack rooms are relatively quiet as you go through your devotions, aside from Lucian’s occasional snore and the rustle of sheets. A few other guardsmen waken throughout your prayers and make their way out into the yard to practise, but you pay them no heed and continue on.

Eventually the instructor bursts through the room, calling up all remaining guards and assembling them out in the field. Much like yesterday, the senior guards all disperse to perform their duties and you and the other four recruits run laps around the yard. However, your pace has decreased since your legs are still aching from yesterday’s exercises and spending the entire day patrolling the city. This fatigue is shared amongst you all and the sun had completely risen by the time you completed your required laps and enter the cantine for breakfast.

“I swear… I’m going to die if we have to keep this up every day.” Lucian complains between bated breaths of air and spoonfuls of porridge.
“Shut up, you’re just preaching to the choir here. If you have to complain go complain to the commander.” Junia replies, munching on her loaf of bread.
“I talked to some of the other guards; you’ll become accustomed to this eventually Julian.” Cornelia, who is also in the process of regaining her breath, adds.
“I agree with Junia, Lucian. Our exhaustion will only increase if we talk focus on it. Let’s finish up our breakfast and let the food work its way through our body.” You comment, although you understand Lucian’s sentiment. Especially so since he hasn’t worked a day in his life before yesterday, the boy was essentially thrown into the deep end in an attempt to teach him maturity. Titus is too absorbed into his meal to respond to your chatter and you all eventually finish your meals and re-enter the field where the instructor leads you to a rack of weapons.

“To become a proper soldier, you’ll need more than basic fitness. The rest of today you will be learning combat skills and how to handle a fight. To start off you’ll all select a weapon of choice and practise handling it.”
Which weapon do you choose to learn?
