Chapter 9: >>1339669

June 30th, 1977. 10:00 AM

"No woman no cry... NO WOMAN NO CRY!" The sound of Terry's booming, jovial voice rouses you from your sleep in the backyard. The sounds of Bob Marley and the Wailers drift out of an open window, filling the warm Summer air with the sounds of keyboard and percussion. Sounds like he's in a good mood. Excellent.

You come in through the back door and give him a little wave. "Hey, Terry."

"Hey, J-Man! Lovely day today, isn't it? Sun's shining, air's clean, I don't got a damn allergy headache- things are going fine!"

"Alright! I'm just going to use the shower, alright?"

"Feel free, man."

You duck into the shower and lather up. Hot water and soap after living on the streets for so long is like a taste of heaven. You scrub yourself down thoroughly: you even bother to pull the twigs and leaves out of your beard (fools errand that it is: tomorrow, you know, some new ones will be right back). You're certain the wash-up's going to surprise Mary when she gets up (little sprout always sleeps in late: she'll have to start getting up earlier, what with Summer School starting next Monday).

You take your time with the shower and emerge about 20 minutes later, smelling of soap instead of your usual bouquet of sweat and soil. You turn out into the living room, intent on some brea-

There's a man in a pressed grey suit standing in the front doorway, with an awkward-looking Terry holding the screen door open for him. The combed-back hair, pince-nez, and briefcase tell you that he's some kind of legal figure. He looks around at you.

"Gerald Derwaldt?"

>(Run for the back door)

For realsies this time.

Today has not at all been a good day for you. As when you tried to get snacks before your trip you stumbled upon a monster den and had to fight for your life(as well as snacks). Then when you finally got to your destination you somehow pissed off these huge sea monsters that proceeded to chase you through the underwater ruins and even up to the surface. Who would of thought sea monsters hated selfies so much?

Finally upon your return you realized the colony was in deep trouble. As there was no militia patrols inside its borders and everyone including the monsters were huddling in fright and hiding out. After some investigating the one girl you sorta knew was ambushed by some bandits and proceeded to get kidnapped after being tricked by her 'friend' and your longtime customer.

Thus you decided to chase hoping you could rescue her and get out of there in time before shit really hit the fan. Alas you were not that lucky. As soon as you started to rush over things went to hell. Monsters started to pour out of the colony and monster hunting forces started pushing into the colony from the surroundings. You were thus caught right in the middle...and you needed to somehow get passed them in order to rescue her in time.

Well hopefully they would be too distracted by each other that they wont pay much attention to you...but alas. Those monsters seem to have the biggest hateboner for you. To such a degree they were ignoring the monster hunters in order to come at you instead.

Today is really not your day and is it just you or for some reason do monsters REALLY have it out for you?

Be aware that you only have so much time before the kidnappers get away but at the same time the seemingly shortcuts isn't necessarily the best option either.

Shoot the bully in the foot

You are Ian Miller and today has been a pretty boring day. You've had a few calls, but nothing major. Still you hope that will change as you pull in to the street of your last client of the day, a mister David Smith. David is a millionaire and known recluse so you and a good portion of the town are curious about how he lives. You pull up to his gate to buzz the intercom and he responds instantly.

"Hello are you the repairman" he asks. You begin to respond yes when he cuts you off "Never mind of course you are thank god you're here. I've been stuck in my house for days and I'm almost out of food. My security system is on the fritz and it won't let me leave. Whatever has me trapped in here has only recently allowed me communication with the outside world or I would have called sooner. Please you have to get me out of here I beg you. I can't open the gate so you'll just have to hop it. Be careful my security system isn't in the mood to play nice." The intercom turns off before you can respond and you are left standing in front of a walled garden wondering what you've gotten yourself in to.

With nothing else to do you pull your van on to the sidewalk to give yourself a boost to get over the fence and hop over. As you land you are met with the sight of a garden surrounded by bushes leading in to a hedge maze. In the distance you can hear the sounds of mechanical limbs moving and you guess you're not alone

Roll me a d20 for maze navigation.

You play with a medal on your chest Idly, rubbing a thumb across a gleaming chevron to remove some insignificant smudge. You have never been quite this nervous before. You wait in the docking chamber of the Aleksander, the greatest warship ever crafted by human hands. Why would you not be nervous?
You have been chosen for the most ambitious undertaking in history since man first conquered her first interstellar neighbors. Hand picked by the Earth Directorate committee itself to serve alongside the prestigious Admiral Dugalle, veteran of veterans among the highest echelons of the Navy. The doubts come to you, but you are steel. You are not alone. You will serve alongside vice-admiral Stukov, who is himself also a legend among the fleets. But you are resolute. Humanity owes its hopes to you and your superiors. But who are you?

Path lifts his spear to waist level, and eyes you cautiously. You tell him that you agree to his proposition, and will go along side him to find and kill Kaydin, but secretly you intend to double cross Path as he did to you.

“Wonderful! Now I noticed you carrying that soapstone around… Kaydin gave that to you didn’t he? I have something for you that is quite similar, use this to seek out and kill him” he produces a small red crystal orb from his hip-pouch, the orb has a large crack through the middle and seems to pulsate with a sinister energy “If you do this and survive, I’ll give you a great reward, far more valuable than what you see in this cellar.”

He places the orb in your hand, you notice inside there is something like an image of an eye, it fidgets and stirs, seemingly looking for something, or someone.

“This red eye orb will allow you to appear to Kaydin as a phantom. Killing him will send you back. When you kill him retrieve his sword, as a token so that I know the deed has been done. I don’t think it will work here, summoning or vanishing has never worked for me here. Come find me when the deed is done. So long friend” he begins to move past you towards the stairs.

The orb gives you a foul feeling, like residual guilt, but also akin to a promise of greatness.

The air is cold to the point of freezing.

A scratching can be heard inside the room beyond the broken wall.

Path begins to leave up the stairs.

Also a plan for the future, we should meet with Kaydin and ask to borrow his sword so we can lure Path out. That way we get Path's reward and we can just call Kaydin out to 2v1 him afterwards.

OH SHIT NIGGER you are Ogi - daughter of the Chief of Police. Pilot of a standard Police Mech that you named Sidorovich.

Currently you're on case involving taking down the city's largest criminal organization. Your latest lead being that a deal will happen down at the docks a day from now.

So now you've got a day to yourself before the mission starts. What do you do?

A dark night in New Angouleme, the city that never sleeps. The sound of the streets below and the light of the skyline above, give a strong impression of liveliness well past the hours when decent folk turn in for a good night's rest. No better time then, for villainous activity! You wouldn't be the only one out tonight, doing so either, hopefully though you can pull this off without attracting attention.

After an unfortunate accident which bestowed upon you strange powers, you became indebted to a villain and are serving as his sidekick of sorts for the time being. So far you've mostly just helped out with small things, little errands and chores here and there and felt more like a housekeeper than a dastardly individual. This is your first real job though, and on your own (with some help), so you hope to be able to succeed. If not as progress to becoming a villain in your own right, then at least as work towards paying off the debt.

The job in question is to infiltrate the corporate offices of a security firm downtown, and to attach a transmitting device to an executive's computer. With this, your villain boss hopes to be able to steal some important information. So with the boss in open communication with you via an intercom and having provided information about the building, you've set yourself to the task. Currently, you found a little street restaurant that's still open and got yourself a table, across the road from the office building.

Sitting by and trying to look inconspicuous, you watch the street as the cars and people go by, and you can hear the sounds of the city like horns and sirens in the distance. A chance just to take it all in, before you shift focus to the office building and the job. A little chilly out because of the wind, but you're dressed for it. Maybe a little embarrassing though since you're just in your normal clothes, you haven't gotten an actual outfit yet, either from your boss or making one yourself. At least like this though you can fit in with a crowd of people.

>How do you proceed?
>>
>>1354521

Try to keep an eye out for any sort of Service personnel coming out of the building. With any luck one of them should have a key card or security pass that we can use after we mug them for it.

What sort of powers do we have? Or is that something we'll find out along the way?
>>
>>1354529

You can maintain a watch on the building, but for one thing it's closed this late and for another you're facing the street side so it's doubtful that any service personnel are going to be entering or leaving through the main entrance. If at all, that is. You can of course move, this was just a convenient spot you noticed on the way over.

As for your powers, they are rather strange and cosmic in nature. After getting blasted by dark energy during an internship with a research lab in the city, you actually fell out of realspace for a time. It was your villain boss whom managed to retrieve you with the use of dark matter, and constructed a safety device which keeps you rooted in realspace for as long as you have it with you.

In practice, your powers stem from the accident though you are only just barely starting to get used to them. By using a number of gadgets provided by your boss, in unison with the dark matter properties of your body now, some interesting effects can be used. A basic one for example which you've already had some practice with is a Wormhole, a small thrown beacon of sorts which drags you through space to its location when triggered.

You have a few others but your boss encourages you to try and see how far you can get without using any powers. Not that his approval matters, but that's that.

Two months later...

You're roughly shaken awake. After half heartedly swinging your fist at the source of the disturbance, you push yourself up and stare at Faervel.
"What is it..."
"It's a trade ship. They're waiting at the shipyards."
You snap out of your sleepiness. This was a pretty important event.
A quick tram ride later, and you find yourself standing before the ship in question.
It was an unusual thing, made of iron and shaped to be streamlined. Instead of sails, long, low projections use wind magic to propel the craft.
A useful design apparently, as the crew only consists of three people; those being an Imp, a Sylph, and a burly Salamander. A flag flies from the ship, bearing a black cog on a dark orange background. The Sylph steps down and greets you.
"You must be Krystal. Head of the Order of Alagos, right?"
Yes, that's correct.
"Krystal, this is a ship from Cinderfell." Faervel informs you, crossing her arms.
Ah, yes. Cinderfell. A northern nation 'cursed with democracy', currently in a Cold War with the Sylph Empire, the nation you currently occupy.
"Well, you surely can't expect us to remain up north. There's hardly anyone up there who doesn't have what we're selling already, and I couldn't pass up the chance to revisit Diluvium." the Sylph grins.

>[]I'm the head of a religious order. As such, I don't need to respect political bullshit, as long as we keep this quiet. What're you selling?

"Excellent. Timothy, show them!"
The Imp mutters several profanities as he descends below deck. Several moments later, a door opens up in the side of the ship, and he emerges, piloting a mech thingy with some difficulty.
"Beautiful, isn't it? Timothy--"
"It's Tim, shithead."
He climbs out of the mech and gestures up at it.
"Took me a while to get this working. Started with a prototype chassis, added some blades and armor plating. I heard 'bout those guns you've been making down here, so I implemented my own take on it."
He gestures at a six-barreled gun on the shoulder.
"Uses magic blasts."
"And all this for the low, low price of five hundred thousand Wisps!" the Sylph exclaims.

We are doing something differently today! Rather then 1d100 best of we do something called Matching

You roll 1dxs, called relative to the difficulty of the move. Rather then highest roll you succeed if the anons manage to produce rolls with matching numbers. So if two anons roll a one you pass. If you get a triple or higher match the result increases.

Wrestling is a battle of endurance, if you get pinned and resist it the next time you get pinned that roll goes up a dice. So d4, d6, d8 etc.

Finally wrestling isnt real, its staged craft. Likewise if you get a triple you dont immediatly use the crit, rather you save it and can replace other rolls with a crit later.

The opponent can do the same and you may find yourself suddenly on the ropes, such is wrasslin.

None wrestle checks will use a normal 1d100 if necessary.

You are the Druid Uran, student of the Academy,

at least you were a few weeks ago,

After getting the Professor of Illusion's daughter pregnant you were faced with two choices, either stay behind and be thrown in jail, or run away as far as you can to avoid the wrath of the Academy's Reach. You are some seventy miles north of the academy and finally nearing the edge of the Confederacy that the Academy is a part of. If you manage to make it past this border crossing, you'll be safe from the Academy and finally be able to start over.

You've been trekking for the past few hours when you finally see it, a border outpost two guards standing outside. The Outpost is roughly 18 meters tall and has a large gate in the middle to let in traders and travelers. On one side is a door leading into the outpost and on top sits several crossbows to protect the outpost. Most of the outpost besides the base appears to be made of wood. They most likely don't know who you are.

You have three options

1. Simply walk through the outpost
2. Attempt to sneak past the outpost
3. Kill the guards

>This pride to brains ratio is why you're currently sneaking into the House of the local Mother Mad Scientist and her Superhero Daughter.
>As you mutter curses at your own stupidity you stalk through the halls of the Wakeman household
>A quick scan of your locations give you three options
>1. Head into the darkened kitchen which has a door that probably leads to the basement
>2. Go up the stairs to the building's second floor
>3. Go back the way you came and take the shame and mockery pussying out will bring you
>Well champ, it's do or die, make your choice!

For those uninitiated, this is a reboot of a CYOA I did way back when.
Sadly the rest of it was lost when .moe went under
And Basement wins!

You are Richard Pierce, private detective. Today you've been stabbed by a demon, fallen from a second-story window, told your ex-girlfriend that you still love her, learned magic was real, and prepared to cast Fireball. Now you're about to waltz back into an actual demon's lair for the fourth time, specifically to fight and kill it.

You need to call your mother after this and tell her she was right to accuse you of making poor choices.

"Walk me through this one more time," you ask Stephanie, who is driving because you've been drinking, but also because you're taking her car. Yours is getting recognizable.

"Desecrating the shrine is a consolation prize," Stephanie explains. "Reversing the calling would send the demon back to where it came from, but we can't do that. Destroying the shrine and altar from which it comes removes a lot of its summoner's control and prevents her from easily calling it back. After that, we have to kill it."

"No wonder they like human sacrifice," you mutter. You check your pistol; you brought both of your spare clips (you don't shoot a lot of people in your day-to-day) and still have four shots in this one, thank God. "Exorcisms?"

"I mean, if you know one."

"...I do know one. If it comes up I'll let you know."

Stephanie gives you a serious look. "It isn't something you can just say, Rich. Magic's not like that. The ritual is for you. If you don't believe it, if you can't put your will behind it, you'll die like an idiot. If you go for it, you need to be sure."

"Noted," you tell her, quietly. And then the two of you get out of the car, and go dashing for the dubious shelter of the side of the frat house. People look out from windows. They don't normally look down from them. And sure enough, no alarm sounds, no shouting, no assholes with baseball bats. So far, so good.

The windows into the basement are boarded over from the inside. Stephanie puts her ear to one, then nods at you; together, the two of you put your asses on the wet grass and press your feet against the boards and push. Wood groans, and then they pop off, clattering to the floor below.

You slide in as fast as you can. There's no way that went unnoticed.

This place is a lot less overtly sinister than you might have expected. The basement shrine smells mainly of disinfectant, and is dominated by a low granite altar with grooves in it. An array of obsidian blades in varying lengths and styles lines it, gleaming in the low light from outside.

Rainwater trickles in the open windows.

Stephanie lights a match that you can't see until she hands it to you, then pops one for herself, holding it high.Sanitized meat cutting tools provide a disquieting suggestion for what happens to the remains of sacrifices down here; next to them is a large pegboard, from which you can see dangling nametags, necklaces, rings. Mementos.

"Bathories usually keep trophies," Stephanie says quietly. "...I don't like this. The demon should be here. If it's not here, where is it?"

"Upstairs, waiting out the rain?" you hazard. You hand Steph two of the molotovs. "...Could put it between us and the exit."

> Proceed with the plan; torch the shrine and run upstairs
> Check the upstairs door first
> Investigate the basement itself further
