The æther flowed meticulously through the forest on the mountain. Drawn up the flat peak, the air flowed into small shafts hidden throughout the jagged stone surface. Pulled deep into the mountain like the breath creatures take, the æther poured out into hallways and rooms deep in the cavernous depths. The Subterranean Complex was vast, consisting of many rooms, hallways, secret passages, caves, mineshafts, and hideaways. Ultimately, the æther reached into the deepest depths of the dungeons to the innermost chamber. It is here that it brought to life the Ancient Slumbering Evil.

No sentient creature had stepped foot on this mountain in many millennia, but the presence of even one sentient soul was enough to wake the sleeping lord. Groggily, you reached out to the hosts of your land, the soldiers waiting for commands from this ancient king. Many bodies were available for you to inhabit, from simple townsfolk to the skeletal remains of any dead creature on the mountain, though skeletons took more mana to summon than was currently available. More souls were needed to recharge both your æther and mana, the stronger your æther the more power you have, the more mana you have allows you the ability to cast more complex spells.

You waited patiently as life slowly seeped into your being, and as you reached a more conscious state, you could feel your strength returning to your lifeless corpse. The being on your mountain had spent a fortnight in the lower forests. It was after he arrived at his second campsite on the mountain that you had pulled enough of his lifeforce to properly reach out to your minions in the deep woods. You didn't have the energy to awaken any of your strongest creatures, so you had to settle for one of the nearby corpses frozen in carefully placed hideaways along the forest paths. You converted the energy that you leeched into mana, but you weren't sure which creature to possess.

You are a wanderer, exploring the world and going wherever the wind takes you. You weren't always like this, though. Just a few years ago, you were a simple guy living a simple life in your sleepy little village. It was an uneventful life, but one you were satisfied with nonetheless, That changed though, when a sudden, burning urge to go out into the world in search of 'something' overtook you. At first you ignored it and thought nothing of it, but the urge grew stronger and stronger until you felt like you HAD to listen to it or else you would lose your mind. So now here you are, travelling aimlessly and persevering through countless battles in search of.. something. You don't even know what it is or where to find it, but you figured you'd know it when you find it.

Your journey has currently taken you to Loam, one of the smaller cities in the Medanian Empire, of which you are a citizen. The empire has stood in power for as long as anyone can remember, their rule is firm but just. The cities prospered under the empire, evidenced by the bustling marketplace and happy residents that you see before you.

As you make your way through the market in search of a weapons merchant, a certain shop catches your eye. The sign makes it out to be a 'general wares' shop, and nothing about it really stands out. It looks just like any other store that you would have walked past without a second thought, if it were not for the fact that somehow, something about it calls out to you.
You stop at the door, and..

Are the boards usually this quiet around this time? Did I pick a bad time to try this? Well, guess I'll keep going for now.
Anyway..

You enter the shop, but instead of being greeted by a welcoming store owner, you're greeted with an angry guy yelling at a fancily dressed woman.
"Please, we need help! We're desperate!" He pleads.
The guy raising his voice looks young, around 16 or 17 you'd guess. Behind him is a girl looking to be of similar age, with a worried expression on her face. Both look dirty and bruised, as if they've been tumbling around the wilderness for days.

"Look buddy I already told you, I can't do anything for you. Now excuse me while I take care of an actual paying customer," she says before turning to look at you. "...You ARE a paying customer, right? What can I help you with?"

You nod, and..

You are Zane Jacobs, and you are not the hero of this story. You are, in fact, a Field Recruiting Agent for the Pan Pacific Defense Corps. And that's as close as you're getting to your dream of being a Jaeger Pilot; rounding up other people so they can become Jaeger Pilots. Normally, you'd be put out by this. But not today. Today you are going to meet the man who made you want to be a Ranger in the first place.

Zackary Warwick. International legend. He was the ace pilot of the Jaeger Program before he retired in 2024 after his wife died while Drifting with him, about a year before the Kaiju War (now the First Kaiju War) was ended by a gathering of all the world's Jaegers to deliver a nuclear warhead to The Breach. He'd retired to a life of surprising anonymity, and he was somewhat forgotten by most; after all, he was not one of those who closed the Breach. But he wasn't forgotten by you. And now it was time for him to come back.

You knock on his front door, a quiet little suburban home somewhere in Alice Springs. A faint smile flickers across your face momentarily. Of course the man who knew better than anyone else the horror of the sea would choose the farthest place away from the ocean he could. No, no, that smile is entirely out of place. You smother it, and rock back on your heels as you wait for him to answer the door. A minute passes, or maybe three in this heat, you can't tell. You reach for the metal knocker again, and retract your hand immediately at the heat of the metal. You check your watch. If he was here, he would've answered by now, surely. You turn to leave, already plotting a course to the bar or pub or watering hole or whatever people round these parts called it that Zack was known to visit.

Something shifts behind you, and you flick back around, excited. A grey cat sits on the wooden awning above the door, tilting its head at you. You scowl at it and beat a hasty retreat to the air-conditioned air of your car.

Fifteen minutes later, you are inside a place called "Toddy's Tavern", and it certainly has the look of a tavern. You are distinctly out of place, a thin, pale man in a tuxedo in a sea of men and women in t-shirts and tank tops and shorts and flip-flops. Everyone seems to have a can or a glass of something, and you can see in the corner what looks like three people sitting around a table and playing a game of cards. In fact, one of those men looks exactly like Zackary Warwick, the only reason you're here. But damn is it worth it. You're about to meet your childhood hero. You make your way over to him, catching only a few askance looks at your suit. Let them, uncouth masses. You were a man of class, you thought, with neatly slicked-back hair and a spotless black suit.

Halfway there, you catch Zackary's eye, and he sizes you up. Yes, you can already see the intensity of his gaze as he looks at you, peeling away your layers and discovering the core of who you are. And then you think you catch a look of approval, as he likes what he sees. Your professional smile turns a bit giddy. You reach his table, and Zackary shifts his full attention to you, placing one muscled arm on the table, staring at you with one brow cocked inquiringly. Of course he already knew who you were and why you were here, but he was being polite and letting you say it anyway.

"Zackary Warwick, I'm Zane Jacobs, Field Recruiting Agent of the Pan Pacific Defense Corps. I'm here to talk to you about the Jaeger Program." you say, voice level and confident. Even in the face of such a legend, you maintain your cool. You're a professional, after all.

You are Zack Warwick, and you have no idea what the hell this suited kid is doing staring at you from halfway across the bar while you're in the middle of fleecing these two idiots in a game of Texas Holdem.

He looks like a schoolboy, poor kid. Probably had lofty visions of what a hero you were, just knew you before the... before you left. As he reaches your table, you raise an eyebrow at him as he somehow manages to look even younger than he already does. "Zackary Warwick, I-I'm Zane Jacobs, Field Recruiting Agent of the Pan Pacific Defense Corps." he begins, barely restraining his glee. Oh hell, not these jokers. You don't care what they have to say, you're not going to join their crusade. Not again. Let someone younger, fitter, and better do it in younger, more advanced, and better Jaegers. "I'm here to talk to you about the Jaeger Program." he says, still excited. You frown.

>"Sit down, tell me more over a game 'a cards." If you're gonna turn him away, might as well take him for everything he's worth, first.
>"Alright, spit it out." No need to get up if you're just going to tell him no.
>"Alright then. Let's take this somewhere else." You kinda feel bad for the kid, you shouldn't just embarrass him in front of a bar of strangers.

You are the TEMPLAR, a holy knight sent to clear the frontier of monsters and heresy!

Currently, you were staying out in a stable behind the local inn. There were numerous reasons for this. The first and most obvious reason was that you didn't really have any money, and even if you did have enough to afford a room, you didn't really the see point of such luxuries or frivolity. Second, considering you were carrying a direwolf pup with you, it certainly wasn't allowed inside the inn and it was far too young to leave unsupervised.

The third and final reason, you suspect, was that the inn keeper was afraid your very presence would scare the other guests. Not that you blamed him. The Black Templars certainly did nothing to discourage all the rumors and stories about them. It was all a badge of honor, really.

What did put you at a bit of unease though, was Morgan's presence. Why she decided to stay in the stable with you, you had no idea, and you suspect that she didn't fully know the reason herself. However, as you awake in the morning, you see her playing with the wolf pup as it playfully snapped at her fingers.

"He's male, in case you were wondering." Morgan grinned when she saw you get up.

Oh, that was nice to know.

"And you didn't name him yet, either." Morgan frowns as she picks up the pup and it starts barking happily.

Right, there was that, too.

Anything in particular that makes it stand out? It could help giving a name.

You brush your hair as you look into the mirror. Last night was quite chaotic, what with Kathy getting arrested and thrown into the brig. Hopefully she’s out later today though. Right now, you’ve got two priorities, making sure Jeep Jockey wins his showdown and getting that golden tank out of the ground. When your crewmembers caught wind of this… “There’s a gold tank under the Marquis de La Fayette?” says Winona. You nod. “First I’ve heard of it.”

“Only legends and rumors,” says Ingrid. “I’m not surprised the Army would try to cover up the fact that some Mary Jane smoking hippies managed to steal it and bury it to spite them. But if you ask me, it’s a whole load of hogwash. It’s most likely just a cache of gold, not a tank of gold. You know, El Dorado?”

“Well, I think it could be a golden tank,” says Jospehina. “Who knows, maybe the Army would let us keep it, oui?” You all laugh a little at that suggestion. “What? They could! A golden tank would be really cool!”

“Yeah, as window dressing,” you state. You reach for your hat. You reach for your hat again. What the- “Where’s my hat?”

Stack bursts out from behind you, your hat planted firmly on her head. She throws her arms up, grinning. “Hey, I’m Ellie! Howdy, howdy, howdy!”

You sigh. “Ah ha. Ah ha.” You swipe it off her head, glaring at her. “Gimme that.”

“Relax, Ellie!” Stack grins, folding her arms. “Say, tomorrow’s All-Star voting for commanders. You know who you’re going to vote for?”

“Eh, we’ll see,” you say.

You are Allen Starwind, a starship captain and veteran of the Great Interstellar War. Your starship is old, yet (mostly) reliable, and you must take on jobs in order to bring in enough cash to keep it flying. Last time, you arrived on Mars, did some stuff, and left the planet with a mission. Good luck, and fair skies.

You grimace as the commander of the CFP inspection team paces in front of you, eying all of your crew and passengers. As soon as he had arrived aboard your vessel, he had ordered everyone on the ship to line up in the wardroom. With your crew and passengers, combined with the inspection team, occupying the wardroom, it has become somewhat cramped.

You grimace as the commander passes you, glaring toward you the entire time. He is someone you recognize, having been one of the few marines who served alongside the army’s garrison under Major Castro. He stops right in front of you, raising an eyebrow. “I must say, Starwind…” He smirks, the massive scars on his face warping to accommodate the almost unnatural expression. He is not a man who looks natural with a smile. “I never expected to run into you again.”

“Me either, Jensen.” You frown. “Never figured you’d end up working for the CFP.” You glance over at his men, one of whom looks apprehensively at you, then back to his commander.

“That’s Master Sergeant Jensen,” he replies with a grunt.

“Master sergeant?” You almost smirk. “I thought you were an officer back in the Marines. Why the switch to enlisted?”

“Too much paperwork,” he lies. Of course, you know why the CFP wouldn’t make a man like him an officer, not with a reputation like his. The man has a damn mausoleum in his closet. “Do you have any idea why I stopped you, Starwind?”

“No sir,” you reply.

He nods, stepping back as he chuckles a little bit to himself. “Right, right…” He then crosses his arms, hand brushing the rifle slung under his shoulder. You fight the urge to flinch, knowing that he doesn’t have the safety on. “We’ve got a report that a dangerous fugitive may be leaving Mars on their way to Earth.” He raises an eyebrow. “We’ve been running random inspections in conjunction with the Federal Navy’s security forces on Earth. We inspect the ones leaving, and they inspect the ones arriving that we didn’t get.” He raises an eyebrow. “And this ship really caught my eye, seeing how popular these Oberons are for smugglers and criminals.” He takes a step toward you, leaning close toward your face. You notice that he smells faintly of gunpowder and oil. “Tell me, Captain, do you have anything to declare?”

“No,” you reply. “Nothing to declare.”

He nods, not stepping back. “Good. As you might imagine, I already know you’re heading to Earth. Planning on enjoying the Fleet Week festivities?”

The martian surface glows with the fire of debris and the pulsing glow of warheads detonating against the surface bellow. The Union and Commonwealth fleets have converged in orbit, the Commonwealth ships falling back behind the other side of the planet as the Union fleet follows close behind. Missiles streak across the sky, detonating in pinprick flashes of atomic light as starship shields flash like fireflies in the dark of space. Your pod observes with silent curiosity from its cloak as the Columbia launches wings of grav fighters and sends them off over the horizon, in the other direction from the advancing fleet formation. You observe the pursuing fleet fire wave after wave of missiles and kinetic strikes against the Commonweath capital fleet as they chase each other over the martian orbit for several hours, until you see the fruit of Mangus's plan. A kinetic warhead catches the side of a Union corvette from behind, its shields flashing as it glances against its spine and ricochets off the shields and into the back of its shield cap, tearing off a quarter of the structure as its hull bursts in a sudden expansion of liquid water into a cloud of flash-frozen ice. The ship begins a slow tumble as particle beams lance out at the fleet's bomber squadrons as the Commonwealth grav-fighters hurl themselves at the rear of the Union formation before its fighter screen can adjust to intercept.

Bring an on call pilot is boring. 90% of the time is spent sitting around in base doing nothing because you respond to events. 8% is then normally getting to and from missions, 1% are false alarms, and the final 1% are actually missions where you get to risk your life.

This is one of those times...

"RED ALERT!" Is the repeating scream of the siren as the rec room turns a red hue. Getting your suits ready you head to the your fast drop pods ready to be briefed and fired.

"Alright men." The voice of the day that speaks for command as the pod begins it's last checks. "We have a mission for you. A extraction gone wrong, and we need you all to fix it." The pod fires, the speed not even felt in your suit. "Objectives are simple: 1. Get the VIP suits out. 2. Get as many damaged team out. And 3. Get out yourselves. We have reports of one of the four team members on site already KIA with the rest critically wounded. Your work is already cut out for you. Command out."

Then the feed cuts from command. The only sound is the roar of the drop pod as it slows down for landing.

(mission starts in the next post. Post builds now for the three players known.)

Hooo boy. This is it. A really big one, huh?

Don't worry, Shizuka, you can do it. Caaalm down.

"LET'S DO THIS!" She would shout, grabbing her MP3 out of her bag, plugging it into the suit, and grabbing the controls.

And of course, in that MP3 was her AI, Argentum. "It is advised that you do not attempt shouting while preparing yourself. Excitement is only simulated through your artificial brain, but you may get yourself too excited."

The morning after the now adult scalefolk complete their hunt you find them still transporting their massive kill. Even with the sled built by the imps the rough terrain and the sheer mass of their kill makes it a long and arduous journey. With the hunt complete you give the chieftain the details only for him to cut you off midway through your description, stating that it is a story for them to tell while the tribe revels in the glory of their hunt. Although you catch him smiling proudly and with more than a hint of relief at their success, he keeps the truth to himself with the intention of letting the young hunters reveal themselves on arrival. He tells you that the hunt is over and should something attack them you most definitely should reduce their attackers into a smouldering husk. You are unsure if you can do that, with so many of your spells being confined to the dungeon, but you assure him that a quick domination will send them falling onto their swords. With a laugh he waves you off and returns to the barracks to join his kin.

You return your attention to the dungeon with frequent check ups on the new hunters as the imps gather the materials needed to upgrade the dungeon. With the assistance of the myconids to haul the massive logs and carved stone they are able to gather more than enough to keep the dungeon running as well as build any new rooms that you may ask of them. With the mine under your control and with a stock of metal Avila has already begun learning from your newly dominated dwarves how to build and maintain a furnace, from there an anvil, and eventually the production of tools. She claims that the dwarves are happy to serve you and work as professional smiths, a position highly coveted in dwarvish society. Although they would have done anyway due to your total control over their minds, it is still nice to know your minions still serve you somewhat willingly.

+2 Dwarven Blacksmith

The mine that will supply your new smiths is well underway to becoming very lucrative. The decision to have both Imps and your undead serve in the mines was an effective one, as they are able to use the undead for long and strenuous labor that would be taxing on a normal imp, such as pushing carts or moving stones. That, plus the expendability of the undead and the nature of the summoned Imps, means that they can work quickly and unsafely compared to the humans and their dwarvish foremen. Speaking of, your prisoners still sit bound and gagged in an empty room. It would do good to secure them before they make any attempts to escape or worse, an attempt on the lives of those who dwell in your dungeon.

You are the Double King. You want crowns.

You currently have two crowns, one because you're a king and another from pulling this rat king's skull out and stealing his crown. But two crowns are not enough to sate your hunger for more crowns. You want ALL of them.

The other kingdoms are aware of your lust for crowns, and have armed forces against you. Fortunately, as a king, you also have cool army shit.

>You have your caslte
>A mobile fortress the size of a fucking mountain
>The Ovum Regalia, a flying egg you ride in which fires tracking missles

You also have a few personal weapons

>Two giant golden knives, which are about the size of you
>This really sharp dining knife
>A sceptre you stole from a fish king
>A musket

It doesn't matter how many kings and queens are against you, YOU WILL GET ALL THIER CROWNS.

1. To the north is Queen Melila, Matriarch of the Hive. She is the queen of bees and her kingdom is one giant hive. The moment you attack she will send a swarm of bees your way. Her crown shines with amber embedded in it.

2. To the east is King Osro the Grisly. Despite not having much of a kingdom, he is known to be quite the ferocious fighter and the mightiest bear around. He'll be a challenge even for you. His crown is gilded with silver.

3. To the south is Count Franz, a vulture king who owns an army of a thousand vultures. He'll be extremely hard to catch even with your Ovum Regalia. His crown is an amalgamation of bones taking a crown-like shape, which is gilded in gold.

4. To the west is Holy Gargantus the Eldest. A gigantic turtle whose age is unknown to everyone. He'll be extremely hard to take down even with your fortress. His crown is extremtly heavy as well. His crown is giant and you won't be able to wear it. It'll make a good crown for your castle, however.

Roll a d4 or discuss between yourselves.

The sweat continues to drip as you grind your way through the crowd, filled to the brim with Policia. Dizzy leading you by the hand unaware of how much trouble you two are actually in.

"Your little stunt to arouse the city won't save you. It's been over since you arrived"

"WAH!" the voice was whispering directly into your ear, you spin and backhand whatever is behind you. Nothing... "Diz! You had to hear that!"

"Hear wha?" She says looking back to you. "Ewww~ what's thaaaat~" she laughs pointing to your free hand.

'A black spot?' You think moving to try and take it off. Aww that's disgusting, it smearing!

"Yuck~" Dizzy adds in

But it seems your little bout of paranoia didn't go unnoticed... You glance left and right, three of the officers near you are keeping a close eye on you.

>A) You can totally make it to the hotel from here in a single sprint, you'd lose them.
>B) Keep calm, it's going to work out fine
>C) Pull out phone and act normal.
>D) Other.

>Rules

I will update the story. At the end of the update I will either give story progression options or you will battle against opponents with dice rolling based attacks. After an undetermined amount of time I will tally up the decisions and continue the story based on your choices. Battles/Dice Rolling events will be the best roll out of the first FIVE rolls (First roll, first served). Lets have some fun with this.

Mallow took the lead as the three fighters flew through the air towards the now giant smoke cloud coming from the village. As the group approached the cloud Mallow slowed her pace to meet with Roni and Nodal.

"What do you guys think?" She called back.

>"We start saving people immediately and put out any fires?"

>"We find who did this and make him pay for this?"

>"Lets get some answers and find out what's going on."

>>"We start saving people immediately and put out any fires?"
This looks like an emergency. Save people first then get some answers.
>>
Nodal and Roni agree to Mallows plan as they descended. Upon landing, all three fighters noticed a girl running to them holding something in her hand.

"PLEASE HELP ME!" The upper teenaged girl called out.

Nodal embraced the female and placed himself between her and whoever was after her.

>Protect the girl

>Hand the girl over to her enemies

>Take whatever is in the girls hand

>Question who she is and why someone is after her
