Does being anonymous actually improve a conversation?
>>438248
yeah i think so
thing is, being anonymous stops many people from wanting to have a conversation
>>438248
not really, but I'm on 4chan to shitpost and amuse myself, so conversation quality isn't important.
>>438248
yes
if 4chan wasn't anonymous, countless conversations would be ruined by shit like "oh hey it's you, what's up?" and "oh it's you, i'm not arguing with you" etc
Yes, especially if by "conversation" you mean "shitposting" and "accusing everyone of being from reddit" (>implying)
>>438248
Yes, when nobody is abusing their anonymity to troll some fags into oblivion.
Which happens quite a lot, really.

This does not happen on other forums, but nice job living in a fantasy world.
Besides, IDs would fix this problem, because they'd only last as long as the thread.

Man I must be really fucking high right now because I specifically remember noticing it all the time in some forums, even on that site that the mods don't want us talking about.

Thing is, 'trolling' means 'pretending to have some opinion you obviously don't seriously have, I mean, c'mon, just for the sake of an interesting argument'
Usernames = circlejerk, so yeah, it does.

Yes

No, anonymity will often decrease the quality of any conversation. Anonymity is useful because it allows people to say things that they don't want to be publicly attached to them. It allows people to say what they believe without being judged as an individual. But due to the poor self-control that most people show, it's mostly just used to shitpost and act like a worthless sack of trash while flatly insulting anyone or thing you don't like.

It doesn't make a conversation better or worse, it just allows you to have a conversation from a different perspective. There's no ego involved so the conversation tends to focus on core elements of discourse instead of personal attacks, although personal attacks do also come into play, which is kind of funny because nobody knows who you are and any personal attacks are generally top-notch projecting.
