1) Shills. I'm not talking about just regular people who use certain products and want to have a discussion about them, but literally paid shills who make the same threads every day and derail threads about competing products.
2) People who aren't technologically inclined coming to the board and shitting on Linux and pretty much everything else that requires a certain level of computer literacy to work with.

Destroy all threads that aren't discussing games. More janitors? Mods and janitors should become very strict about how far a thread can veer away from video games. When half of a thread is not talking about video games, delete it*. Maybe ban a few people if they continue to go off-topic and encourage it. Some off-topic discussion is fine; it's expected anywhere. But sometimes a thread just isn't about video games, and/or would be better off on another board. The base of the conversation, and majority of a thread, has to be about video games, not some random thing loosely tied to video games. If off-topic discussion dominates a thread, the thread should go.

*Music, characters, game ideas, silly things in video games. You know, things that are actually about video games and are from video games. Not: e-celeb personal life drama, titter threads, threads disguised as video game discussion but aren't about video games, and the like.

The problem with all the boards is just that they're too old. There is an original group of users that use the board in one way, and then another group who came later who use it another. Still more who came still later use the boards in still another way. And this is all still happening. It's unrealistic to expect all these people to lurk moar. It's already demonstrably not realistic and still happening. Also, I don't really think it's all that much of a problem and people just complain too much, especially crotchety old people that are turning out to be just like their fathers.
