Can we please get rid of /a/? The majority of the negative elements of 4chan spawn from there. By their own admission /a/ users don't use the rest of the site (calling anyone who dares use another board a "crossboarder",) and regularly post off-topic shitposting on other boards to try to derail conversations.
Anime is used in the same way as My Little Pony was before it was banned- it is spammed on boards like /k/ or /tv/ to rile up posters. Anime posters on /v/ create off-topic threads to dump pornography in or discuss waifus; attempts by /v/ to self-moderate this unwelcome presence has been met with a great deal of entitled crying from the anime crowd.
Worse than that, the moderators have time and time again defended their bad behavior and encouraged it on their home board. This behavior is then carried to other boards. Anime posters spam, post low-effort posts (such as "#character is cute! CUTE!",) and generally contribute nothing of value to discussions.
It's become painfully obvious that there are two groups on 4chan- 4chan users, and /a/ users. The two are completely incompatible. It's time for /a/ to take some responsibility for their actions, and its time that anime be moderated like the off-topic content it is.
To start with, I propose the following change to Global Rule 15:
>All pony/brony threads, images, Flashes, and avatars belong on /mlp/. All anime threads, images, Flashes, and avatars belong on /a/.
No the brony is right this time. /a/ is a containment board that occasionally leaks like any other, like /mlp/ or /pol/ or [s4s].
And >>>/trash/ totally doesn't allow pony porn.
Give me a fucking break retard.
OP isn't even a ponyfag you morons.
He's just some dumbass trying to start shit again.
Everything is fine the way it is, it's good that we can piss off all of normalfags with smug animu
No you retard, the only board on this entire site that was made with the intention of containing anything was /mlp/. The only containment board is fucking /mlp/ you fucking moron. /trash/ wasn't made to fucking contain anything and was something hiro made on a whim. Stop trying to find a deeper meaning in it other than that it was a board made to hold offtopic talking.
>brony with inferiority complex who probably wasn't around in 2011 for the pony shitstorm thinks they did nothing wrong and makes a thread going "well anime should be banned too if we are", thread #547
>post low-effort posts (such as "#character is cute! CUTE!",)
Don't forget "i want to fuck [character]". Entirely pointless, and should be considered as the shitposting it is.
>anime flashes have to stay on /a/
What? How is that even possible?
Anime is important to 4chan, so like other off-topic images/discussions I don't see why it should be punished outside of obvious shitposting. Like if someone starts dumpling anime girls and discussion on an unrelated board, or when it's knowingly used as an aggravation tool (trolling/bait).
>the faggots who got told to fuck off of /a/
more likely the faggots that like anime but realize what a cancerous shitheap your favorite board is.
I'm not even going to read that TL;DR piece of shit post, just go back to rebbit if your so triggered by /a/, because we all know thats where you newfags are coming from.
>All anime threads, images, Flashes, and avatars belong on /a/.
You rebbit fags are so threatened by reaction images and anything that goes against your autistic need to section off every single thing into it's own little area. It's pathetic. How about you fucking go back to where you came from.
Going by that logic, I assume you have nothing against MLP, SU, Undertale or Homestuck being allowed?
Anime outside /a/ is shitposting no matter how you paint it.
Do you have an actual argument or are you going to concede idiocy with the next reply?
inb4 decade old 4chan news screenshots that supposedly prove this is still an anime site today
You can continue to act like a retard and ignore the fact that this site was made to discuss anime and nobody has a problem with it other than retards like you, but that doesn't change the fact that it will not be banned. But please, go ahead and waste your time writing this meaningless shit that will effect nothing because you have nothing better to do with your life. The irony in this situation is that I can guarantee you're the thpe of idiot who bitches that "4chan is shit now ;_;" meanwhile you post garbage like this.
So you went ahead and admitted you're a retard.
Why do you do this to yourself?
You can continue to act like a retard and ignore the fact that this site hasn't been centered around anime in over 10 years and that anime is declining as a fad and as it does, so does the board traffic ranking of /a/ and related boards, but that doesn't change the fact that it isn't welcomed outside of its containment boards. But please, go ahead and waste your time writing this meaningless shit that will effect nothing because you have nothing better to do with your life. The irony in this situation is that I can guarantee you're the type of idiot who bitches that "4chan is shit now ;_;" meanwhile you post garbage like this.
>anime is a declining fad
Yeah, I wish, maybe then /a/ wouldn't be such an awful board filled with so many retards. Anime is getting even bigger in the west and unfortunatey there's no stopping it. /a/ is also faster than it has ever been.
>Anime is getting even bigger in the west and unfortunatey there's no stopping it. /a/ is also faster than it has ever been.
I'm saying this as a fan of anime for 11+ years; I genuinely hope it stops being profitable to send it to the west. Crunchyroll killed fansubbing, which is turn killed anime because it became avaliable to more retards. /a/ hasn't been good since 2011, despite what they'll tell you. The board is genuinely awful.
Feels to me like the otaku pandering shit is harming japanese products both in the east and in the west because it panders to a shitty demographic and not a more moderate audience.
I see it with videogames. They used to have much more influence in the west before they went full waifu shit.
But this changed focus also leads to more otakus to pop up.
So you lose the mass interest, but get more obsessed imbalanced faggots and I've seen that happen in western communities too.
>All pony/brony threads, images, Flashes, and avatars belong on /mlp/. All anime threads, images, Flashes, and avatars belong on /a/.
Sooner or later this WILL happen. It's just a matter of time.
Posting a smug anime girl adds nothing to the discussion and it's just as bad as posting a smug pony.
>I wasn't here when ponies were spammed everywhere
Smug anime girls are literally not even 1/100th the problem ponies were before /mlp/ and global 15. Maybe not 1/1000th. Ponies made three boards (/b/, /v/, /co/) literally almost unusable at points.
>feigning ignorance this fucking hard to try to make it seem like ponies were hardly aggressors to get what they got
They were a fucking million times worse and more combative than the weebest of weebs.
It's OK if you weren't here in 2011, but don't speak out on things you do not understand. Essentially the only way you could be on 4chan in 2011-12 and not have heard of bronies/ponies at all is if you came to a board like /po/ for ten minutes once a month.
This. The only people posting ponies were trolls trying to get a reaction using reaction images, and Barneyfags that were trying to launch some kind of holy war against the MLP posters that had been contained in a general.
MLP would have died much sooner if moot had told the mods to delete pony shitposting and leave them alone. Instead he created a board because he was told it would kill them, which made the whole thing last much longer. Meanwhile Homestuck was confined to a general and died down on its own.
So yeah, the only people who act like MLP posting was some kind of big deal back in 2011 weren't actually here.
>It's OK if you weren't here in 2011, but don't speak out on things you do not understand. Essentially the only way you could be on 4chan in 2011-12 and not have heard of bronies/ponies at all is if you came to a board like /po/ for ten minutes once a month.
You said it yourself, it happened mostly on three boards (/b/, /v/, /co/), I didn't browse any of them at the time.
Seriously, /mlp/ came as a big surprise for me, I thought it was some sort of joke.
>i have no fucking idea what a containment board is the post
None of those were made to contain anything and existed only to remove something from a board and /v/ and /pol/ aren't containment boards.
I'm of the opinion that GR15 needs to be repealed. But if it doesn't and we expand this to apply to all boards then /co/ images shouldn't be allowed outside of /co/, /v/ images shouldn't be allowed outside of /v/, and /tv/ images shouldn't be allowed outside of /tv/, and repeat that with every other board, because no one wants to see SU garbage, shitty undertale fanart, or /tv/ memes outside of their respective boards.
I'm okay with this.
But >>435423's more reasonable.
I bet you also believe people who compare certain posters to furries/reddit are furries/from.
This is a general imageboard now.
/v/'s not a containment board.
>Anime is used in the same way as My Little Pony was before it was banned- it is spammed on boards like /k/ or /tv/ to rile up posters. Anime posters on /v/ create off-topic threads to dump pornography in or discuss waifus
A fine example of /qa/'s quality posts.
Don't get mad. You know it isn't.
No. Neither Moot or Hiro would do that.
Please be trolling.
You want an anime site to remove the anime board?
They'd just move to /jp/. You'd have to delete the entire "Japanese" section of the site.
And are you fucking kidding me calling the animefags "entitled" while /v/ tries to "self moderate" which basically means "bitch and whine"?
We need to get rid of GR 15. It's the only ground that faggots like yourself have to stand on when trying to set up containment boards and get content that you dont like removed from a board.
I fucking wish /v/ would get raided with ponies similar to how /pol/ got raided to flush out you whining faggots.
I'm >>436628 but
>an anime site
>remove the anime board
Can you try to point out where it says that in the OP?
>And are you fucking kidding me calling the animefags "entitled" while /v/ tries to "self moderate" which basically means "bitch and whine"?
If the anime posters on /qa/ are anything to go by (they might not be, but idk), yeah they would be some of the most entitled groups on 4chan. And /a/ would """"""bitch and whine"""""" if another board, like /mlp/ or /pol/, invaded and did what anime posters did on /v/.
>stop telling the truth
Saying 4chan isnt an anime site is like saying Newgrounds isnt a flash site or youtube isnt a video site.
If anime is banned from 4chan, where are people supposed to post about anime?
Nobody's saying to ban anime you idiot, just contain it in the boards that are supposed to be used for anime, like /a/
>Saying 4chan isnt an anime site is like saying Newgrounds isnt a flash site or youtube isnt a video site
Except this is wrong. Youtube is a video hosting site, 4chan is an imageboard, not an anime posting site
Not him but
>Saying 4chan isnt an anime site is like saying Newgrounds isnt a flash site or youtube isnt a video site.
Look long and hard at the board list.
>If anime is banned from 4chan, where are people supposed to post about anime?
/a/. People are supposed to post about anime on /a/. You've got other redundant boards for it as well.
Oh, lol. Well, he probably meant anime there. Read the OP again. He's clearly not talking about deleting /a/.
>if another board, like /mlp/ or /pol/, invaded and did what anime posters did on /v/.
Anime posters are doing fuck all on /v/ but posting reaction images or relevant games.
This thread for instance >>>/v/326649740
I just went to /v/ and this was on the front page.
The 2nd god damn reply is some whiny faggot calling OP a weeb and pedophile for no reason.
THESE are the faggots that start shit. THESE are the faggots that need to be banned.
Not the OP for posting an anime fighting VIDEO GAME and his opinions about the game on the VIDEO GAME board.
Well let's ignore OP's shitty wording and assume he just wants anime "contained" on /a/ like ponies are on /mlp/.
My question is: "why?"
Ban anime from all boards except the "japanese culture" boards and then what?
/v/ will just start complaining about the next thing that triggers them and ask for another containment board.
You have to draw a fucking line. Yes, if some faggot starts a thread on /v/ about an anime and there isnt the slightest intention about posting a video game in his post then yes that anon should be banned for posting off topic bullshit.
But if someone gets upset over a reaction image or an anime video game and tries to start a flame war you're banning the wrong person when you ban the anon that posted a simple image or game.
The people that get upset over that kind of content shouldnt be posting here, because most of those people are 14 years old.
>posting TV reaction pics is fine
>posting vidya reaction pics is fine
>posting any kind of reaction pic is fine
>posting anime reaction pics SHOULD BE BANNABLE OFFENSE
>getting triggered by anime posting on 4chan of all places
You clearly don't know about what happened over at /v/ and didn't read the OP.
>THESE are the faggots that start shit.
Yeah shitposters should be banned.
>THESE are the faggots that need to be banned.
And the other shitposters.
>/v/ will just start complaining about the next thing that triggers them and ask for another containment board.
True, but it's not baseless. This was an actual problem on /v/, like generals.
>You have to draw a fucking line. etc etc
>But if someone gets upset over a reaction image or an anime video game and tries to start a flame war
Where's that happened?
>banning the wrong person when you ban the anon that posted a simple image or game.
That doesn't happen.
Thank you for your shitpost.
You aren't fitting in.
>Thank you for your shitpost.
>in a shitpost thread
don't think even for a second that i'm not contributing here
>Where did I get triggered by a pony?
Not in this thread, but I made the safe assumption that you normally do.
>Just go to another site, it's that simple.
Or you could just start posting your pedoshit in relevant boards
If you don't like it, leave.
Nobody is forcing you to be here and nobody will miss you.
And since it seems to make you uncontrollably mad, here.
>>complains about anime on 4chan
Nope. I'm not OP.
>What is Global Rule 8?
People don't get banned on /v/ or making a thread for a game. They get banned for making threads that'll cause a shitstorm, having it deleted, then making another and crying that there's nothing wrong with it.
Deserved. Dumb frogposter.
But seriously, >>436654 is shitposting.
>They get banned for making threads that'll cause a shitstorm
This is acceptable if the thread is obvious bait.
If the shitstorm is caused by a bunch of teenagers getting triggered by Undertale or some shit and OP has to tread posting on /v/ like a minefield then /v/ needs some cleaning up.
You want to know how to clean up /v/? Stop pandering to to underaged posters that want a safe space from everything they dont like.
>>But if someone gets upset over a reaction image or an anime video game and tries to start a flame war
Literally every other thread.
>I'm not OP
You're still complaining about anime on 4chan.
Anime is 4chan's most important niche hobby.
If you get rid of it, all of the boards will be flooded with plebeian normalfags.
>>They get banned for making threads that'll cause a shitstorm
>This is acceptable if the thread is obvious bait.
Quote is missing
>having it deleted, then making another and crying that there's nothing wrong with it.
They get banned for trying to and crying that mods won't let them
Yeah. It does. The amount of shitposting's among the worst. I think most people on 4chan know that. Pretty much every thread on /qa/ about rating boards or asking which are the worst will include it very negatively. I've only seen one person who doesn't think it's heinous.
>You want to know how to clean up /v/? Stop pandering to to underaged posters that want a safe space from everything they dont like.
Mods delete Undertale or similar threads on /v/ to avoid shitstorms/flamewars. Cutting out lots of shitposting might help improve it.
>Literally every other thread.
People haven't been banned solely for using a reaction image or making a thread about an anime style or game for an anime on /v/ so there isn't a problem there.
I didn't complain about it.
Read the rest. It's not about deleting /a/. Moot or Hiro wouldn't do that either way.
>There is if people get so triggered by a reaction pic or a japanese game
Well, yeah. But I didn't mean that. It was about bad bans.
>that the thread devolves into shitposting.
That's every /v/ thread.
What does hitler have to do with this?
>implying hitler isn't /a/ related
>It's not an issue
You could have fooled me. The notion that anime is the cancer killing 4chan comes up nearly every day on this board, and it isn't being brought up by the same person.
ponyfags can keep their cancer inside their board, why can't the pedos? they derail threads every fuckig day
>Maybe we should just fold /a/ into /co/ and /tv/.
If 4chan still exists 20 years from now then I guarantee that this is how it will be then. Or maybe there will be a new board for 2D movies and series (including anime).
Because I have interests I want to discuss in peace that aren't anime or anime related.
You know, like the 50 or so boards that are specifically for non-anime?
Is it really that hard to understand for an anime birdbrain like you?
But why here of all places? and if you get triggered by anime it's your fault not mine. It's okay to not like anime on 4chan, just don't get butthurt because of it. Otherwhisse yuo can always try other sites where people don't like anime.
Oh ok so you're just shitposting. Cool.
your shitty analogy falls apart when you consider that
4chan is not an anime country
I am not imposing anything on anyone, I just want boards to discuss their designated topic without anime shitposters derailing every thread
/a/ needs to fuckoff and die. Even since early /b/ days they've been leaking outside their cave thinking other boards need to be filled with thier shit when even moot told them to fuck off.
Weeabs are the OG cancer.
>4chan is not an anime country
Maybe not a country but was an image board created for Japanese culture/anime.
>When it started, in the first two or three years, it was very much steeped in Japanese culture and anime and video games and people who were hobbyists with a keen interest of Japan.
Just like Europe became good when it became a bunch of Muslim countries? Fuck off. Seriously it's people like you who make this site shit nowadays.
>go to anime site
>don't like anime
>invade in mass so that the original population becomes the minority
>this somehow is good
Why don't you make your own imageboard with no anime?
I make the site shit because I want for boards to stay on topic? Okay you fucking retard, it's clear you'll go to any length to defend your autistic hobby, so I'll go ahead and withdraw from further talking with you.
>I want for boards to stay on topic
An anime reaction image isn't automatically offtopic.
If anything there is far worse things to worry about offtopic wise. /sp/ where it talks about non-sport shit like sandwiches or /pol/ talking about porn or /v/ and /tv/ talking about e-celebs and so on.
Not sure why you are so bothered by anime with what I mentioned is more of a problem.
this picture has never been so relevant
this level of retardation should be permabanned
>/a/ users don't use the rest of the site
>regularly post off-topic shitposting on other boards
Does not compute
Also, you should've put more input into your post, if you at least aknowledged the fact that not only /a/ is for posting anime images, then you might've gotten taken more seriously. The rule would just kill boards like /c/, /e/, /d/, unless it's meant in very specific way, in which case the rule would be a complete unuseable mess.
How about 'no'? Please, for the love of god, just go back to fucking /q/.
How much content does /a/ discuss which isn't filtered through the lens of translation? Normalfags need translations to watch anime and read manga. Contemporary /a/utists are narcissistic snowflakes typical of normalfags these days.
Japanese shit and culture was always the sites theme and the site is still deeply rooted into that shit and its culture. If you don't like that fact, use a different site instead of changing this one. lurk moar
>the board is called "technology"
>LELELELE I'LL SPAM ANIME IN IT FUCK EVERYONE ELSE FUCK YOU I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TOLD ME YOLO ANIME SITE ANIME SITE FUCK RULES AND ORDER
this is you
now, tell me why do you think you're not wanted. think about it long and hard
I know enough to know that it takes one to know one.
I gotta tell you, nobody besides losers cares about being called a normalfag.
Abnormalfags are 8gaggers, bronies, gamergaters, circlejerkers, /pol/tards, fanboys, and faggots. So yeah it's more of a compliment.
>8gaggers, bronies, gamergaters, circlejerkers, /pol/tards, fanboys, and faggots
These people are all as normal as it gets, with the possible exception of the circlejerkers depending on how far off the deep end they are.
god fucking damnit I hate makiposting retards on /g/
>someone makes a thread with a maki pic in the OP, sometimes on-topic, other times some blatantly off-topic one liner shitpost
>instantly five retards probably from the desktop thread materialize and begin jerking OP off
>commence folder dumps and pathetic roleplaying
>because it's anime it instantly triggers all of the reddit-tier retards
>tryhard "master rusemen" follow, about 50/50 splitting between makifagging to rile up the redditors and whining to rile up the makishitters
>thread stays up for hours
It's a shitty tl;dr bait picture based on flawed logic and straw grasping in an effort to justify desktop thread-tier shitposting and circlejerking, topped off with those two retarded images at the end to further enflame the opposition.
When are you going to fuck off back to Usenet instead of shitting up this academic hypertext sharing network with banal memeposts about animated television shows?
>flawed logic and straw grasping in an effort to justify desktop thread-tier shitposting and circlejerking
No it's not. The image is pretty fucking simple, it's telling you that anime posters aren't the fucking problem and that it is globally allowed, even if its a double standard. Because that's how forums fucking work. It's to illustrate the people who post anime aren't the problem, it's shitposters and people who fucking get upset about anime. The bottom image is there to illustrate that very fucking problem. No one gave two shits about the post your desktop threads filled with anime image until retards who misunderstood the site and think they shouldn't lurk came along and shit the place up with their shitposting.
>Usenet instead of shitting up this academic hypertext sharing network with banal memeposts about animated television shows?
This was never funny, shitposter-kun.
Anime posters are NOT the problem, it's an image, it's not against the rules to use it if it conveys what you want it to convey (or even if it doesn't.)
However, entitled, pretentious shitposters who hide behind "but I posted Anime and this is was an Anime-only website in 2005! coddle me and worship me!", spewing an essay-long "no u" when their shitposting lifestyle is threatened, they are the problem. Even if faggots like OP aren't aware of it.
>It's to illustrate the people who post anime aren't the problem, it's shitposters and people who fucking get upset about anime.
And crybabies like you who get upset about some retard's meaningless minority opinion on your "anime website" and come on here to whine and blog about it are perfectly okay?
Most communities that actually give a shit about fostering informative discussion and site-wide harmony would hand out a well-deserved ban to both of you.
>This was never funny, shitposter-kun.
It's not meant to be funny, it's meant to highlight that things change. This shithole's reputation as an ebin meme factory, combined with a proliferation of non-anime related boards fostering non anime-related topics, regardless of what it was originally founded for, have changed it, and it's time to accept it. Just as the internet is no longer a military and academic information sharing network, 4chan is no longer your blog where you can post whatever you want as long as it has anime attached to it, and you are not entitled because of what it used to be.
>/int/ and /vg/ get more traffic than /a/ nowadays
>/jp/ isn't among the top ten boards.
>smug /tv/, /sp/, and /pol/ pics are slowly replacing smug anime pics
>new non-anime boards getting created all the time
>weebs think they are still the point of the site because years old screenshots from the former admin
>mfw greentext quoting yer mum
These threads need to be banned on sight on here. Enough is enough with the /a/ bullshit. The only people getting triggered by /a/ are newfags who want this place to be for western topics and western topics only
And if you are so fucking badly triggered by anime, then do 4chan a favor and just leave. You have plenty of other forums you can go to.
This is the only place where the /a/ hate is out of control. The only people who hate anime on other boards are the shitposters who come from Neogaf, Facebook, and that other place I can't mention because the mods will ban me. But it starts with R and ends with T
Oh please just stop pretending like you speak for a majority of 4chan. You don't. The weeb boards are defacto legacy containment boards left over from an earlier iteration of 4chan that no longer exists whether you or the mods like it or not. It's not something that any specific individual did or didn't do, it has to do with the waning popularity of the fad of anime in the west. It has nothing to do with overall subscription numbers increasing, which you will no doubt cite, but instead everything to do with anime being entirely normal and mainstream today and seen by the vast majority of the rest of the site (where the traffic is) as a quaint throwback to a different time or worse, a disruption to the board/thread topic at hand..
See this is what I love about you anti-/a/ fags. You always bring up the following:
>The weeb boards are containment boards
>That part of 4chan no longer exists!
>Anime is dying in the west!
>The rest of 4chan hates anime!
And then of course you try and act so smart with your wording making it seem like you know what you're talking about, when it reality you're just a butthurt faggot who keeps getting triggered over images like this. /a/ doesn't care what you think. In fact they laugh their asses off at you people constantly knowing you get so butthurt over this.
You know what? Lets make a containment board for all you guys. It'll be a shitposting board where you can shitpost memes all day, talk shit about Japan and anime, and just run around and be a massive faggot. Would that sound wonderful to you?
Opinion disregarded. This comment by default negates everything else you said, because you clearly have no idea what you are talking about.
Except ponies. You're completely overlooking the fact that anime is explicitly used to derail threads, exactly like ponies were.
>post anime pic
>comment to yourself about "worst girl"
>try to start off-topic conversation
>claim "4chan is an anime site" when people complain.
/a/ seriously does have the worst posters outside of the big three (/b/, /v/, /pol/).
>"HUUURR USE THE CATALOG FAGGOT" (posts crossthread to a general thread)
>post in general
>"Fuck off secondary, read the LN which was translated by a 14 year old Chinese kid"
The funny thing is that that's exactly what /a/ is like. /a/ has made a number of things bannable due to not wanting newfags to post before they learn to fit in. /v/, which is more popular than /a/ by far, should be allowed the same courteously.
To quote a phrase you guys like so much, "lurk moar."
No, the anti-general anons are still the majority. However, the mods clearly don't want to put the effort in and do their job and clean up after their mess, so they are catering to the generalfag minority instead to prevent backlash. I seriously doubt Kinomod is with us anymore.
We need a new accel spammer.
>At the Cultural Typhoon conference at Komazawa University this month, anime writer Dai Satō had ominous words to say during a round table discussion. Joined by film director Tomita Katsuya and music journalist Futasugi Shin to discuss “Living in the City: Hip Hop, Anime, Housing Projects,” Satō—whose esteemed oeuvre includes Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Wolf’s Rain, and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex—believes anime will die out in Japan in a few decades, Otaku2 reports.
>Breaking down the rules can give studios more freedom to distribute. Initiatives like Crunchyroll, don’t unite the industry. They are just a distribution platform that operates in certain regions. A platform such as Spotify can bring change, democratizing distribution into one single platform where everything is accessible for a monthly fee. Before that there’ll be a long way to go.
>While Anno doesn't think animation will completely end in Japan, he explained that "Japanese animation is in decline," adding that, "it's already peaked." Anno sees this death as inevitable. "After it does collapse, there will probably be a new resurgence," he told RIA, wondering if said return is something people will wait for.
>Anno Hideaki Says Anime Is Dying, Will End in 5 to 20 Years
>It's a common narrative these days. And with big names like Hideaki Anno, Hayao Miyazaki, and Dai Satō singing the same song, it's hard not to believe them. Hell, ever since the anime boom ended in 2005, sales have been declining every year.
No, you're in denial.
No, you are. Anime is rising in popularity in the west and the fact you are using fucking crunchyroll forums, the place with probably the most casual userbase, as a way to prove anything, shows how retarded you are. Nice try troll-kun.
>Anime is rising in popularity in the west and the fact you are using fucking crunchyroll forums
Coincidentally all the dozens of articles you can find on the subject through a simple google search seem to agree that 2005 was the year anime 'peaked'. That's also around the time 4chan stopped being an anime site.
>2005 is the year 4chan stopped being swarmed by anime
No it isn't, chanology is the time it did and that was mostly on fucking /b/. It's only recently that anime has truly been dying down on the site and that's mainly because of the fappening and GG.
>Coincidentally all the dozens of articles you can find on the subject through a simple google search seem to agree that 2005 was the year anime 'peaked'.
Quote them for me then, troll-kun. Put effort into your trolling, please.
Why are you guys arguing about deleting anime on an anime website?
I was gonna say, just search "anime" in Google Trends and see that it's rising.
However the troll will then backtrack ans say "hurrr anime is now a normalfag hobby and /a/ are now normalfags" if you prove him wrong. You literally cannot win with him, because he is either doing it on purpose as a sociopath or is mentally defunct.
Here's a list of the number of anime produced each year.
Get fucking dunked on, kids. Anyone who says anime is dying is just butthurt because they got owned in an internet argument.
>make a runescape forum
>its offtopic parts become the most popular and is were the majority of its traffic goes
>its no longer a runescape forums
No, no, you see, that's not how it works, you retard.
>Since its introduction more than half a century ago, anime has risen to become one of Japan’s most recognizable cultural icons. It has served as the initial contact between individuals and Japanese society, and has brought us the likes of Gundam, Pokemon, Astro Boy and Dragonball Z. Anime films like “Akira” have gone on to become cult classics, while the works of Hayao Miyazaki have been lauded as masterpieces around the globe.
>Now, however, the industry is running the risk of becoming extinct.
>To the casual observer, Japanese anime doesn’t seem to be faring for the worse. Such couldn’t be farther from the truth. Many Japanese who have considered a career in the anime industry have been put off by insanely low wages and the long, tedious hours required of its animators. As a result, the number of individuals working in the anime industry (and consequently, the number of anime series produced by the Land of the Rising Sun) peaked around mid-decade and have declined year after year. After year. After year.
It's literally a Japanese/manga centric website
Like 90% of people can speak Japanese on most boards
>Like 90% of people can speak Japanese on most boards
If knowing the words 'Desu', 'Sage' and 'Senpai' counts as 'speaking Japanese' then sure, I agree. That doesn't mean the site hasn't moved on from its roots. Even the site founder has moved on.
>everyone (people who dont even watch anime or know anything abut the industry) except for a few /a/nons (who regularly watch anime and atleast have some basic knowledge of the industry) ITT seems to agree on that
That's referring to Western investment in the medium and the subsequent pullout of localizing companies. Why? People didn't like the English dubs because they fucking sucked for anything not big-name shit, and no one bought them. Since only a few dubbed series could make it on TV and the rest had to fend for themselves on store shelves alone supporting them, the market didn't last.
Crunchyroll, some streaming service /a/ actually despises because of all the newfags and casual plebs it brings into the medium, was recently bought for 100mil and now has probably at least a million subscribers. A few years ago it was fucking nothing. So the fact that an anime streaming company can be a bigger success than brick-and-mortar approaches ever were is something. Funimation, a company localizing anime that everyone assumed was about to go bankrupt, started their own rival stream service and now are doing well from it. Netflix and anime go hand in and so well that Netflix is now planning to fund anime exclusive to it, and so on. Point is that people are moving away from television as a medium onto the internet (look it up) and on the internet they find anime. This is moving so fast things have turned around drastically from even 5 years back.
>lastly and notably author literally says his book was described as AIDS and fail on "the internet"
That's unambiguously 4chan, saying this guy is shit. Hell if I know the situation better than him he definitely is a shit, just trying to sell his book.
not sure why i'm bothering, but
>year number of television anime series
>2016 110 (so far)
these articles >>437117 are from 2015
>Mr. Anno, approaching his 55th birthday, held an interview with RIA Novosti on May 22nd.
>Mr. Anno said that Japan's anime has passed its peak, that it has lost its light, and that it was on its way to a decline. After completely losing its light, he opined, it would likely begin a new resurgence.
>According to Mr. Anno, the modern anime production system is only barely managing to function, and that it's only a matter of time before it crumbles. In any case, from what he sees, he thinks that it would likely not even last twenty years, and even argues that after about 5 years, the anime industry will be unable to continue in the state it is in now. As it starts to lack in funding and human resources, the situation will be such that, in Japan, it will no longer be viable to continue creating anime [I may have messed up on this sentence. Would appreciate if anyone could verify].
>However, Mr. Anno does not think that this will mean an end to anime as an artistic form of film. He points out the possibility of the centres of anime production moving to other areas of Asia with good conditions.
>According to Mr. Anno's prediction, things like anime will definitely continue to exist across the world, but the demise to Japan being the heart of anime in the world is swiftly approaching.
Miyazaki also expressed his opinion on the industry complaining about Otaku, but no one gives two shits. The opinions of old farts means fucking nothing if there isn't anything to back it up with. Mainly stats.
i do agree with him somewhat though. if anime keeps getting bigger, other countries will push their way into the market no matter what it takes. the industry isn't the same as it was 10 years ago, and it will be different again 10 years from now. i can't imagine japan not being at the center somehow though, they created this monster and no one else has come close to it.
Speaking of numbers here they are. Looking at the broader market things are not really in decline, indeed there was a peak in 2005-6 but it's since recovered. The recession hit anime studios really hard, but they're recovering.
I'm fairly positive that I've seen other reports on revenue and market growth etc since this date (13 is a bit out of date really) and it's been continually going up. I thought I had those recent stats saved too but they elude me; maybe someone else does.
On this, note that the pink at the bottom "overseas", is us, the West. It's always been just a tiny piece and has hardly changed. Looking at that piece it is also higher than 2006 levels and surely last year/year before that has spiked tremendously from netflix, crunchyroll and funimation stream services.
Anime outside of TV broadcasts had no easy way to monetize in the West but it looks like they only recently figured out something that works.
Despite his fame and his works being very respectable, /a/ does not like Miyazaki outside his movies, as he speaks out so much on the anime industry yet himself isn't actually a big part of it. He does not make TV anime; he makes movies. So for him to speak about an industry that is essentially all TV and pontificate where/how it will go is a bit asinine.
If you look at the chart just posted up there you can see that in the grand scheme of things movies, thus Miyazaki's real plane of expertise, are a drop in the bucket in the actual anime industry. He owns his own entire studio that does everything for him and he gets to call the shots on what to adapt/create and why. The actual anime industry does not run that way at all; Miyazaki has a rather coddled setup where he can generally do what he wants from his command post when the anime studios generally bid for or are given projects to adapt by the big-name manga/LN publishers and rarely have the resources (read: money) and/or risk appetite to make something on their own outside of publisher support.
Excellent rebuttal. I can just as easily claim that you're just a fag in general who uses east fallbacks in order to dismiss any and all criticism.
I'm not new at all and I agree with some of the criticism for the board. For example it's an uphill battle trying to discuss anything but moe girl shows. You're either willfully ignorant or you're someone who likes these shows so you don't see it. This has nothing to do with board culture.
I think he's saying the main instigator and the guy who will not give even a millimeter of ground to his sworn enemy (apparently anime as a bloc) is probably a brony.
The OP of this thread quickly segues into global rule 15 and essentially the argument is "if we're contained to our board /a/ should be too". Now let's see, who could be behind this post? Who might want to keep going in the thread he made to support his argument? I'm not saying he's the only one tard raging here (definitely not actually) but probably the main one keeping this shit thread going day after day.
It has all to do with board culture. If 99% of people there don't reply to non-more show related threads, you learn not to make threads about them expecting a lot of replies.
If you've been on 4chan so long, you should be okay with anime being posted everywhere because that's just how it works here.
>For example it's an uphill battle trying to discuss anything but moe girl shows
The board discusses every fucking airing show, anon. Everything that isn't airing, incredibly popular or isn't ran by generalfags has a hard time get threads. You clearly don't lurk the board if you seriously think only moeblob shows are the only things that get heavily discussed.
>Everything that isn't airing, incredibly popular or isn't ran by generalfags has a hard time get threads.
The problem is even the airing shows are influenced by shitposting that derives from moeposters/waifufags. Some may call this culture, but to me it's a core group of NEETs who keep the board shifted in a certain way simply because they have the time to. And no it was not always like this.
>even the airing shows are influenced by shitposting that derives from moeposters/waifufags.
Also, 'moeposters' don't exist. The amount of people on /a/ who seriously watch nothing but moeblob and only talk about it are in such a minority, it's not even worth mentioning.
Only in your stupid world, weebcuck. On 4chan and the rest of the internet, they mean the same thing. Normie is just a shorter way of saying Normalfag.
They'd both been in use for years until /a/ decided to try to redefine them. /a/ has so little relevance on the rest of the site that they were never able to push their stupidity on everyone else.
>"Only one person could possibly hate us!"
Complete delusion. Weebs have to be developmentally disabled.
>OP of this thread literally is a brony shilling about global 15
Ok. I don't know how it can be any more clear how stupid you look.
I also just noticed, hello, guy that keeps inserting in stutters and shit into all the people he's "quoting", defending the thread. Is that possibly you OP?
It's also clear OP and possibly more bronies are trying really hard to rope in anime because he/they know their threads will get attention/"discussion" that way, rather than just ridiculued/ignored for straight-up asking "please remove global 15". So it seems they want to try to knock anime down to their level instead in their.. I don't know? Butthurt? Impotent rage?
>anime posters are irrelevant, so much so their term for normie wasn't even known
>anime posters are a cancerous block on almost every board
Which one is it faggots. Those are probably different people but they're completely contradicting each other, yet trying to reach the same means.
Looks like you guys are literally pushing any buttons you can to try to support your case no matter how real or imaginary their evidence.
This. I love getting anime-haters mad so if someone gets triggered by an anime picture I keep posting them.
I know it's wrong, but if people ignored what they don't like instead of getting mad this wouldn't happen.
No, no. Normie is a word that predates fucking 4chan. Normalfag is a word conjured up on fucking 4chan long before you probably came here. The meaning was given in the earlier screencap. Normie, however, while a word thar predates 4chan, in its modern usage is some stupid retarded shit made up by normalfags on fucking /r9k/. Normalfag=/= normie you fucking idiot.
What makes it even funnier is one of those screencaps is fucking 2008 and normie only gained a rise on 4chan around 2012.
Keep acting like you actually mean anything normalfag, anime isn't going anywhere on 4chan and its here to stay forever.
>/a/ has so little relevance on the rest of the site
The only reason /a/ doesn't have any 'relevance' on the site, is because its the only board that doesn't go around forcing its culture on its other boards, just like how they don't like people do it to theirs. If /a/ never followed that old 4chan culture, they would, without a doubt, be the most relvant board on the site.
I live watching weebs concoct fairy tales, but it's pretty sad to know that they actually believe what they convince themselves is true.
>How can something be bad? You just said it wasn't good!
/a/ is culturally irrelevant to 4chan. They do not contribute anything of value to the community as a whole. All they do is shitpost and try to cause damage.
Before anyone says something I'd like to add most animeposters on other boards just picked the images from wherever and use them only for shitposting, and dont even watch anime
The only time /a/ invades other board is during 4chan cup whenever /sp/ loses a match
He is literally speaking out of his ass
There are only unfunny frogs and feels on boards which dont regularly have new content to discuss, and this cancer is rampant on all other non anime related boards too
>/a/ is culturally irrelevant to 4chan. They do not contribute anything of value to the community as a whole.
Of course /a/ is 'culturally irrelevant' to the site. /a/ has always kept /a/ in /a/ and kept everything else out. I'm sorry you are a retard who never bothered to lurk or learn any of the sites history. However, pretty much every /a/non cross-boards and posted on other boards. Anime posters as a whole have contributed more to the site and its culture than non-anime posters ever will. Shitty 'memes' that aren't even funny and just get spammed, don't count either, retard. eg. pepe
>All they do is shitpost and try to cause damage.
>shitposter thinking animeposters do nothing but shitpost
A normal person. Someone apart of society, I believe it was. Normie hasn't deviated too much from its original meaning I guess, but it is centered more around certain things nowadays. Normally stupid shit.
I was gonna say, cross-board content tends to be feels/frogs shit and either ridiculed/ripped on endlessly or just deleted. Obvious /pol/, /int/ and /tv/ shit outside those boards is usually deleted on-sight if it just doesn't belong. Board memes usually stay within their boards. Some places like /his/ and /k/ go at great lengths to tell /pol/ to get the fuck out. /tv/ "memes" are just forced shit that, outside of bane, is very short-lived and not funny.
/b/ does nothing and is completely fucking irrelevant yet is like 4x the size of /a/, if he wants to play that card. For their size and gravitas they have done nothing, nothing at all, for many years, besides fappening, which wasn't a meme and did not contribute anything to the site besides draw in a bunch of faggots to /b/ who just want to post porn all day and make that board even more boring and dead to what it used to be.
4chan itself is fucking dehydrating out of OC all around. Don't blame /a/ for it, which actually has nothing to do with any of that shit anyway, but rather wherever the fuck you tend to go.
Then frogs and feels should be banned before that, since thats shitposting too.
Besides 4chan is and always was an anime site, and an imageboard, and cute anime girls are much more pleasant to look at than frogs
People posting anime doesn't mean they are from /a/ retard. I next to never see /a/ jokes, catchphrases and memes outside of it, except for the really big ones. Said things, which are normally picked up by /v/ermin who then proceed to spam it on their own board. About 99% of things spawned on /a/ tend to die with the season, as people move on to the next thing, instead of spamming the same shit, like you are supposed to.
>shitposters use something legitimate to shitpost
/a/nons still use anime picture outside of it, you retard. However, people use them for shitposting purposes. If someone uses a anime reaction image, tough shit, fuckface. If it upsets you, why are you using 4chan, you stupid thinskin? If they are actually shitposting or spamming, then report them, retard.
>except for the really big ones. Said things, which are normally picked up by /v/ermin who then proceed to spam it on their own board
This. Chaika and Umaruposting are usually /v/ermin
On another note you have to wonder where all these complainers are coming from for anime reaction faces to trigger them so much.
For that matter /v/ has its own running ideas it does with the same anime /a/ watches, independent of /a/. When Kill la Kill was airing /v/ was constantly looking for excuses to talk about it back on their home board, like "would you like to see a kill la kill videogame" etc. That naturally sticks with /v/ looking for all sorts of ways to weasel in off topic because they did that so fucking hard years back (pizza tip threads etc) mods had to lay the smack down on it.
People were then spamming Hestia on /v/ even though she wasn't that relevant on /a/. Then Umaru all over /v/ to the point /a/ started to hate that show just because it was clear /v/ likes it so much. We still get people coming in wanting to talk about Umaru and talking all /v/-like even though /a/ stopped giving a shit about that show months ago. None of that cross shit on /v/ is /a/, that's just /v/ being itself.
Whether or not the popularity of anime as a whole is truly declining, as /a/ and /jp/'s board ranking continues to slip into the teens like a bad american college football team, the reiterations of this thread and the OPs themes are only going to increase, especially as more non-anime boards get made...
>anno said that Japan's anime has passed its peak, ......, and that it was on its way to a decline
>after completely losing its light, ...., it would likely begin a new resurgence
Anno trully is a one trick pony.
>is because its the only board that doesn't go around forcing its culture on its other boards
If this was true, this thread wouldn't exist.
/a/ needs to be stopped before they completely shit up every other board
I'm sorry anon, but someone posting anime images doesn't mean they are from /a/.
Honestly, most discussions about anime outside of /a/ would've been shitposted and/or called bait/deleted immidiately if they were posted on /a/, so I am kind of doubtful about the claim that /a/nons are shitting up other boards with anime. These people sure are into anime, but they don't actually type like people from /a/ would, but I might be wrong.
>The majority of the negative elements of 4chan spawn from there.
>By their own admission /a/ users don't use the rest of the site (calling anyone who dares use another board a "crossboarder",)
>and regularly post off-topic shitposting on other boards to try to derail conversations.
Something's not right here.
Why did you come to 4chan?
>Like the overwhelming vast majority of the users of this site, it wasn't for anime
and there you have it guys. cancer that killed 4chan
crunchyroll is an anime website, this is an imageboard with a variety of boards with designated topics
what makes you so entitled that you think nobody else but your literally autistic self matters?
oh, right, it's the autism. can't expect an autist to understand other people
>I've been here since 2012
>I'm totally not a newfag
Last question: how long did you lurk before you started posting?
As for your question, I am very autistic. I spend most of my time watching anime or fapping. Got a problem with that?
That didn't answer the question. How does it win an argument by calling someone autistic? Or is it to make you feel better because you don't have a real argument? Been multiple people and multiple sources in this thread to show this site is still anime centric even if it has other boards.
>Been multiple people and multiple sources in this thread to show this site is still anime centric even if it has other boards.
But they haven't shown that though. All they've done is shown how they cling to the past and the former admins words, when the former admin himself had moved on from anime just like the rest of the site has.
>when the former admin himself had moved on from anime just like the rest of the site has
And your proof of that is? Even in 2013 he said it was pointless arguing about anime on this site >>436984 and he even said he hoped it went further back to being more anime after handing it over >>436772 .Plus the mods are enforcing it in 2015 >>436863 >>436857
>lol stop clinging to the past! this is an English country now! Who cares if this land was rightfully yours! we're here now so fuck off
Make /a/ require a 4chan pass, and make posting anime outside /a/ bannable.
This would mean that /a/ could be rid of both newfags and /v/ermin, since anime would never be able to be popular on /v/. /m/ would be allowed to post mecha anime, but would have to be policed to prevent /a/ from making an outpost there.
Everybody wins. Other boards don't have to deal with weebspam and /a/ gets a secret club.
Why would i want to not delete /a/ if i was a reddit mod?
I can't determine whether you are serious or shitposting at this point. If you are actually shitposting, I hope you know, no one is actually upset and everyone is actually laughing at you for being a tard. Your shitposting style feels like as if you came fresh out of /v/ as you just learnt about /qa/ and thought you'd post the exact same trying to get (you)'s for no purpose other than you are incapable of getting any for of attention any other way.
Next time just ask nicely if you want cute anime girls posted
Every single reaction image technically belongs to a specific board. Do you really think people are going to only post /tv/ reactions on /tv/, /v/ on /v/ etc? If you get triggered by anime reaction images you should just kill yourself
Sorry but you sound butt hurt.
Please go away and go to redshiit/9fag or shit.
>be a newfag
>go to 4chan
>it's not the dreamland I think it is
>too much anime
>too many weebs
>want to make it more like reddit/tumblr/etc
>make this thread
Why are you such a god damn faggot op?
Can't you take those dicks out of your mouth long enough to click to another fucking site?
If you don't like anime you dont belong here.
there are a million other places on the internet where you can be an autist.
it does matter, because this is a weeb board.
subboards only exist so we dont discuss everything on /a/
we need to exterminate all those subhuman animu neets. there is no other way.
you will be the first to die in the great animu weeb extinction.
I'm an ethnic German, 1,93m tall and blonde. I'm pretty sure i'll be one of the last.
Keep posting that Austrian manlet if it gives you self confidence.
>ethnic German, 1,93m tall and blonde
5 lies in so few words.
you mirin' bruv?
I also vote for the Green Party because I like the environment.
But anon, anime is different! You just don't understand!
Please don't tell me to go back to /fit/ for using this image btw.
Posting in a soon to die thread to say that OP should kill himself lmao.
