I sometimes wonder if it's because there is money involved in buying access to anime like there is in buying video games or consumer technology.

/a/, /v/ (and sub boards), /g/, /toy/, even /k/ (I'm probably missing some), are all based around buying things, and this injects a certain amount of class warfare drama and a sense of arrogance into these boards. Not saying this makes these boards bad, but that they encourage certain attitudes more so than other boards that are based on creating or discussion.
