Sure, there's a sort of rising political awareness (especially around certain issues) going on right now, but the issue isn't so much people being more concerned with politics as it is the development of a really obnoxious culture around it.
And that's where /pol/ comes into the picture. It's essentially making political things into very shallow memes and shared ideas. It's a "exciting" barely-political shitfest that has some roots in actual politics, but is really just like any large. overgrown society dedicated to something. /pol/ is to politics what weebs is to Japan. Sure, you could argue that Japan is the cause, and that weebs are just an effect, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm not in the slightest bit annoyed or bothered by politics or Japan, but fucking tired of /pol/ and weebs. It's just a cancerous culture that hopefully won't have too long of a lifetime.
