there should be some system to hold mods/janitors accountable.

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

there should be some system to hold mods/janitors accountable. give each mod their own ID, which shows in every ban, and have some kind of complaints email which a group of randomly selected anons look over. if people consistently make legitimate complaints against a mod, they would be fired
what does /qa/ think?
pic is unrelated
>>
Won't happen since they're the ones holding the power. A report system would be similar to shooting themselves in the feet.
>>
>>426718
Hiroyuki is the one with the real power, he needs to exercise it. otherwise, powertripping mods will kill this site
>>
>>426700
agreed mods should have ids

anons should also have ids

we also need a +\- system for bumping posts
>>
>>426741
you know where you can go for that anon
it wouldn't be like a username or anything, just a randomly generated ID. like the ones used for threads on /soc/, except permanent. and it would only be shown to the mod, users banned by said mod, and the people moderating the mods
>>
>Hey mods can you please add this feature that'll make you take responsibily of your actions?
>>
>>426784
there are some good mods around though, and I'm fairly sure they don't like the abusive ones making all of them look bad. and like I said, if the mods are not reined in, there won't be many people left here for them to ban
>>
>>426700
It won't happen. There's no reason for the mods to hold themselves "accountable" to the most troll filled website on the internet.

However the fact you desire such a system does show that no one really has any faith in the mods. They do pretty much nothing to instill trust or respect for them. They're pretty much absent gods who strike at random, partially due to being either understaffed, inconsistent, or both.

Reporting is also pretty ineffective as a user. There seems to be wildly inconsistent responses to my reports, and sometimes blatantly rule breaking stuff is left up.

I would like some transparency, but not in the way you want. What's wrong with a public announcement saying reddit is banned? Why does this have to be something you learn through the meta-sphere or by getting banned? They don't need to lurk in the shadows, they're anonymous.

I'd be fine with more frequent stickies and mod announcements. It tells people that the mods are at home and actively considering feedback, even if they don't choose to act in whatever way you want them to, the simple fact that you know a mod has considered the issue is nice.

As is, the average user has zero incentive to be a good poster. I will shitpost and spam and roll dubs repeatedly and never get banned. Then I'll get banned for something I never thought I would be banned for. There's no pattern to any of it. It's like living in a society that has laws on paper, but people break the law all the time anyways and rarely get punished, while sometimes innocents get punished.

An arbitrary system like that encourages anarchy and chaos as well as disrespect or distrust for any authority figure.

>An arbitrary system like that encourages anarchy and chaos as well as disrespect or distrust for any authority figure.
exactly, which is why my plan is needed. obviously, the people moderating the mods would disregard blatant trolls, it's fairly easy to tell the difference between a genuine shitposter and someone who just triggered some ultra buttmad mod
>>
>>426882
>Bootlickers want that tiny mod cock
Who could have guessed?

"I want pointless mod related drama." "4chan really needs more of that."

nigga literally who cares

i bet you're buttsore cause you got banned for saying rebbit
>>
>>426700
>group of randomly selected anons look over. i
The most retarded idea I've ever heard. I wouldn't trust a group of 'randomly' selected anons to watch over a light bulb.
>>
>>427016

Well, good thing the current system is giving you heaping helpings of it.
>>
>>428629

That doesn't sound much different from the current system desu.
>>
>>428670
I've actually heard that most of the mods are NOT and were NEVER anons. They get hired, usually from other sites where they've modded previously. No points for guessing the largest source of said mods...
>>
>>426700
What makes you think there isn't such a system in place already? Janitor actions do get logged and can be reviewed.

It's just not available to whiny faggots like you who gets buttmad for being banned for shitposting.
>>
No, democracy on 4chan is going to be awful. Majority of anons doesn't know shit about what this site needs, letting them rule would be THE end.
>>
>>429908
That's exactly the thing. The majority of users on 4chan are idiots. You see so many of them whining about their shitposts getting deleted and how they should be mods. Imagine if all those angry aspie teenagers would get mod powers.
>>
>>429932
>The majority of users on 4chan are idiots.
I hate how true that is. I'm dumb in a few of my own ways, but some people have no understanding of anything at all.
>>
>>426700
who's to say it does not already happen, checking the logs would be very time consuming.

>why do anon's compare this site to some sort or corp. its a couple of guys with a good grip on how the site works who wake up and hold on like a motherf*cker I assume
>>
>>426700

Having moderated a few message board (not the chans) I can assure you that any transparency between the mods and the userbase is a terrible idea. It just ends up with mods being singled out and doxxed by users over the least little shit. No one is ever happy about being moderated, even if the moderation is clearly justified.

There should be more oversight, however. Some of the boards I frequent have little to no moderation, or the moderation is arbitrary at best.

It doesn't help that we're strongly discouraged from using the report system thanks to bullshit CAPTCHAs and report limits. Users can't be expected to self-moderate, especially when there are so many obstacles preventing them from doing so. Hiro needs to bring in staff who can actively lurk the boards they're assigned to, and delete violating content as they stumble upon it, without depending exclusively on the report queue.
>>
>>426700
But if there was transparency in moderation the site might actually improve.

Can't have that.
>>
>>430094
We're not talking transparency as in "give out their name and phone number", we're talking coming up with a unique, random, possibly cryptographic ID that can help identify mods so that patterns of behavior can be proven instead of merely insinuated.
>>
>>426882
This post is spot on, and it's exactly why why I spent most of my time on 4chan dedicated to shitposting on my home board instead of trying to discuss on topic with other anons in vain.

The redditors on the mod team would never ever do that lol, get real OP.

/o/ here, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SEND HELP OR GET HIRO TO OPEN UP JANITOR APPLICATIONS AT LEAST.
>>
We all need IDs.

I always report shitposting then start dumping pony porn. A mod will leave shitposting up for hours but if you post a pony vagina they show up in minutes at most.
>>
>>433890
So how does that make the thread better?
>>
>>426882
I'd vote for you to be a mod.
>>
>>433939
I'm assuming he meant that they'll actually start fucking doing their jobs if there's a blatant offense.
>>
>>433974
Won't that just get the thread deleted?
>>
>>433890
Probably because shitposting is subjective, but pony porn isn't.

>>434096
Believe me when I say some shitposting isn't subjective. This is ONE. FUCKING. GUY.
>>
>>434095
Nope. It calls them to the thread though, and they always start deleting shitposting too.

So if you want moderation just build up a small collection of pony porn. You only need two or three pics. It works THAT fast.

>>433939
>>433974
This. They'll ignore shitposting, but they never, ever ignore pony porn. They don't hate anything worse, save for posting the janitor logs.

I always like to at least quote the shitposter in my pony posts, too. That way when they look at your post for deletion they have to look at the posts you're responding to.

The reason they delete the shitposting too is because if you dump porn and they start hitting a thread and ignore the trolls, people start calling them lazy faggots because they've shown that they're actively ignoring shitposting. The insults hurt their feelings. The mods aren't smart, and they hate their jobs and the site, so you just have to be smarter than them (not hard.)
>>
>>434526
Lol at this fursecution and unwarranted notions of superiority over the mods
