>>420892 >Banners, ads, our admin, etc. Just a reminder that THIS is what weebs always use an argument in this discussion. They are so pathetic. Banners and ads... and somehow they believe that all japs are autistic anime fans. Very insulting to Hiro.
>>421153 >4chan was created as a western version of 2chan and futaba. More it was built to be for Japanese interests.
http://www.theverge.com/2015/9/22/9374643/christopher-m00t-poole-interview-4chan >When it started, in the first two or three years, it was very much steeped in Japanese culture and anime and video games and people who were hobbyists with a keen interest of Japan.
>>421184 >diverse community "Diverse" doesn't say anything as it could mean being able to talk bout JRPGs, anime and otaku hobbies like train watching in one place, since that could count as pretty "diverse".
>>421192 >That most, if not all Native Americans came from Asia just like whites came from Europe. Yeah, I got that.
>Regardless of who were there first, it wasn't America until the Europeans colonized it. Regardless of weebs being here first, non-weebs are why non-Jap boards outnumber Jap-focused as much as it does and why 4chan's so big. It's a general imageboard now.
>>421232 moot added boards for his favourite stuff first, then he continued the expansion, as he had always planned to do. 4chan is and always has been a diverse community, just like the japanese imageboards.
This whole thing is subjective so there's no clear-cut answer to it.
You can't just ignore the fact that 4chan is or was a weeaboo imageboard. It was probably moot's primary motivation to even make a 2ch copy. I'd say that /a/ is still 4chan's core, even though it's only the sixth's largest board. /b/ has become a porn board, /pol/ is considered a containment board, /v/ and /vg/ are shit too.
4chan is far past its age of glory, as it stands in the shadow of a much larger meme website. I think it's dying a slow death. One day it's going to be replaced by another website or app that uses anonymous shitposting as its main appeal.
>>420883 Whatever. You all newfag only come to /qa/ for complaining. Truly SJW generation. When moot begging for donation where the fuck all of you? When moot ask for disable adblock for 4chan where the fuck all of you? When moot ask for buying 4chan pass where the fuck all of you? Fuck dead maybe better after all.
I don't understand these new meme people mad when put anime reaction image. We just want have fun shitposting. If you all can post all Bane, Slag and Pepe in every board so why smug anime girls can't. Everyone chill in the past.
Hiroyuki isn't a weeb. Have you even seen Futaba Channel and 2ch? 2ch, the textboard Hiro ran, wasn't a weeb site. Not even close. Go there yourself and take a look. It's in Japanese yes, but not even close to being about anime or anime centric. They discuss tons of shit there. Same goes for Futaba Channel that 4chan got code from in the beginning. Yes, it's in Japan and Japanese people go there, but it's not anime centric either. It's got boards for baseball, gardening, world news, art, etc.
So, I don't know where you idiots got this idea that 4chan is a weeb site. 4chan itself says it isn't right in the FAQ and both of the sites 4chan drew inspiration and even code from aren't even geared towards that. That's not to say there aren't imageboards and textboards dedicated to it, there certainly are. But Futaba Channel, 2ch, and 4chan are clearly not.
>>423128 Futaba aka 2channel is absolutely an anime site and is the source of 4chan's code.
2ch, the site Hiro ran, is a series of textboards, not an imageboard, -from- which 2channel sprang out of. Hiro is not exactly the 1:1 predecessor to moot but rather like a grandpa or uncle to him; Kanrinrin is 2chan's owner and would have been a closer match, but probably wasn't interested in taking over 4chan.
Hiro's site 2ch is indeed a more general themed site but also has a huge amount of anime textboards. Go to 2ch's front page and you will see its memes plastered all over, one of the most famous/prominent of which are yukkuris, which are based off Touhou which is totally an otaku thing. Hiro himself openly talked about anime when he first appeared here and /a/ was the first board he attended to many times over. He literally made a cameo in some old anime years back too. So clearly he is not against anime nor minded it having a wide influence on his own site.
So what makes you think suddenly things have to change, then? Your own edgy angst against it? Your being too sheepish and embarrassed to admit 4chan is actually dorky as fuck and always has been? If you can't handle the plain truth then get over it or get out if you are such a close-minded faggot.
Futaba is not an anime site. Go look at the board list there. Like 4chan, anime is merely one among numerous topics of discussion. It's not even the majority there either.
Secondly, I never said Hiro hated anime. I just said that his site is not anime centric either.
Thirdly, I don't care if anime is here. I just don't like revisionists lying and acting like 4chan and 2ch and Futaba are anime sites when all evidence points to the contrary based on the boards and the people who visit those sites.
I don't like anime, yet I do visit a weeb site. http://4-ch.net is a weeb site. And their site is pretty much geared around being a weeb. As such, when I go there I don't go "this isn't a weeb site, faggots". I may not talk about anime and other stuff like they do, I just discuss the little niche stuff that does interest me. But that's the thing, if 4chan was a weeb site I wouldn't care and I'd mind my manners when discussing stuff. But 4chan isn't an anime site. Seeing people post it doesn't anger or me or anything. Because it is one of the many things that makes this site up. But over there? I keep my dislike of it to myself because I understand that on that particular site, it is mostly enjoyed and is something I need to respect even if I disagree.
>>423239 No one has ever officially said it is a containment board. You are forcing that term on it to try to justify yourself when really you are just being a little fucking bitch that 4chan is not exaclty whatever you wish it was.
moot himself said /a/ is in fact the best board in his 8-hour Q&A. It is clear mods actually make an effort to police the place against blatant shitposters and it was also the only board that had a special event for new year's. Don't like anime sites? You're on one. Get over it faggot.
>>423128 moot was an ADTRW weeb on SA, which is probably how he discovered that image board in the first place. The first 2 years, almost all of the boards were anime related. The weebs from that era look back to it with much nostalgia (including moot apparently).
>>423241 Do you see what futaba's boards actually are like? Most of them are either completely dead, like /po/ dead, or sustained by various anime related things, barring a few porn boards and random shit like ramen or bicycles or whatever .. Also mostly dead boards. These other boards for trains, military stuff etc which all reflect very common niche otaku interests in Japan. It is so fucking utterly and blatantly made for otaku. Futaba's activity is mostly the latest Nijiura, which is like their /b/. They actually have 3 /b/s, but go look at them and you will see tons of continuous general threads for all kinds of anime past and present. Most of their daily dose/meme threads etc are anime related. There is like 500x more discussion on anime on their /b/ as ours if not more than that.
Also until somewhat recently, outside of nijiura the most active board by far was for airing/live watching anime. It got shut down because people were gauging popularity of shows too much based on responses an individual show's thread was getting which made a toxic atmosphere, so now it is all merged back to nijiura.
2channel literally was founded to focus more on anime than 2ch does. And 4chan was copypasted from 2channel. You don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
>>423257 >No one has ever officially said it is a containment board Stopped reading there. No one has to officially say it. Nobody has to say things like /pol/ is the racist containment board either. That doesn't mean it isn't true though. It's pretty obvious to anyone, new or old.
There is the idealized fantasy 4chan stuck in 2005 like you are describing and then there is reality where the popularity of anime is declining, /a/ isn't even in the top 5 boards anymore, and weebs are almost universally despised outside of their legacy containment boards.
The weebs keeps hitting new lows... Now they're straight up lying, claiming that the japanese imageboard are anime imageboards. Utterly pathetic. Stop re-writing history, you weeb-fucks. By the way, if you only know how much the japanese loathe your kind.
>>423304 >universally despised Speaking of fictional narratives.
That's just you. Anyone who uses the places can see /v/ and /co/ and /b/ and [s4s] and /int/ and /g/ and /tg/ /k/ and even /pol/ having large populations in their userbases scarcely able to stop themselves from veering off to talking about anime given the chance.
That doesn't mean /a/ is invading whenever you see that, in fact /a/ itself wants as little contact with other boards as possible and never gives a shit to try to intervene in other boards' affairs. It means there are fucktons of weebs all over 4chan as an endemic population. It is not hard to find people that like anime but don't even use /a/ as a home board. Most of the populated boards have some context in which they talk about anime and also all have their own opinions on it independent of /a/'s. /co/ likes some shows /a/ does not, /v/ likes some shows /co/ and /a/ do not etc. It is clear as fucking day you loud complainers don't actually have a real leg to stand on. So of course you come here to try to underhandedly play it to the mods that everyone hates anime now when really it's just you. Do you think they are that stupid? Do you think they do not see for themselves what I just described? This isn't a big deal to accept unless you are some newfag incompatible with the classical 4chan mindset. You become one of us, not the other way around.
>>423333 >Anyone who uses the places can see /v/ and /co/ and /b/ and [s4s] and /int/ and /g/ and /tg/ /k/ and even /pol/ having large populations in their userbases scarcely able to stop themselves from veering off to talking about anime given the chance. Great quads, but this doesn't ever happen. It sounds like you've got the same /a/utist megalomaniac superiority complex as most of the rest of the weebs on /qa/.
>>423333 Stop lying. Sometimes there might be a dbz-thread on /tv/, but that's extremely rare. And it's only done by people like you, because you feel a need to spread your shit around on this site, just to prove your retarded idea about this being an "anime site".
Now with a new admin you guys are getting nervous about losing influence. Everyone can see that.
>>423337 He's not wrong, but not for the reasons he thinks.
There's a lot of weebs who raid other boards on the reg, especially places like /v/. Boards like /tg/ and /co/ have it doubly bad since moot banished some things from /a/ to those boards and brought in crossboarders.
/a/ invaders basically killed /tg/ with their anime quests.
>>423304 >then there is reality where the popularity of anime is declining
Holy shit this. Outside of older weebs who find stuff online, there aren't a lot of younger people who watch anime at all since they aren't introduced to it as children. Most of the smaller anime and manga localizers went out of business a while back, and there's only a few hanging on to that dwindling market.
Within a generation weebery will be dead. I'd wager that the majority of the younger generation hasn't ever even seen an anime.
>>423359 First of all let's see you deny your way past this http://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=%2Fm%2F0jxy&cmpt=q&tz=Etc%2FGMT%2B8
So that makes one ask, what gives relative to 4chan then? Fact of the matter is that most of 4chan overall is in slow decline irrelevant to actual trends. Why? I don't know. Fact of the matter is many boards either are stable (not growing nor shrinking) or are simply shrinking in activity. The only one still growing hugely is /pol/ and its rise is literally because it gets referred to a lot on Reddit, and the /pol/ clones there got closed down, and it's also an election year with a new Ron Paul meme candidate, only unlike Paul, Trump is actually a serious contender in the race.
>>423367 Go to futaba right now. Go to their random boards. Observe all the hentai ads. Now tell me again it isn't an anime site.
I know otaku means many things in Japan. However futaba was designed to cater to these side interests specifically because obsessive hobbyist types often get super into several things at various points because that is just their nature/mindset, and it is predictable what those may be. That is why 4chan split off into things like technology and video games long before other more "normal" boards like /out/, because really geeky guys who like anime probably also play games and are computer nerds. If you don't understand this logic I'm not going to bother teaching you from the ground up what it actually means to be a nerd because you clearly do not have a fucking clue.
>>423419 Holy shit you are blind. Are you like 15 years old and think you can just lie your way past facts because hurt you must win all arguments at all costs? The curve shows it -was- in decline a few years ago. It is on the rise again and is in fact at an all time high. If this kind of sheer willful ignorance is who I am dealing with I regret giving you even a minute of my time.
>>423304 >then there is reality where the popularity of anime is declining
>>423385 >Outside of older weebs who find stuff online, there aren't a lot of younger people who watch anime at all since they aren't introduced to it as children. Pokemon is still airing to this day. Toonami came back as well.
>>423424 It is you who is suffering from confirmation bias, friend, and can't see that the number of new anime related media released accounts for the minimal rise in popularity. If it was truly flourishing the graph would form a diagonal line and wouldn't be bouncing around everywhere (obviously dependent on a few key premieres of the dwindling stock of good anime content, in whatever form).
>>420883 niggers started the human race but whites built it and today niggers try to say they were egyptians, romans, greeks etc. Kinda like how weebs started 4chan but /b/ made it 10x better and now weebs try to say /b/tards were weebs (they weren't)
Normies are just like SJWs. They have a pathological need to infiltrate and subvert other people's communities, and they'll rationalize it any way they can. They'll even claim, if necessary, that 4chan never had anything to do with anime and that "weeaboos" (i.e. mythological beings) just took over the site.
Normies can't stand anime or people talking about anime, so they seek to destroy 4chan. It's as simple as that.
>>423438 >Anime is just cute girls doing cute things nowadays. It's not something kids will watch. This is a meme. There are only a few "cute girls doing cute things" shows per season, and this season there don't seem to be ANY. There are fantasy, scifi, adventure and mystery/thriller anime released all the time and you fucking fucks just ignore them and complain that there are no fantasy, scifi, adventure and mystery/thriller anime made anymore. It's like going to fucking Disneyland and whining that there's nothing Disney-related there.
Kid's anime has not gone anywhere, and both Dragon Ball and Pokemon still get new shows.
>>423385 Crunchyroll and other services simulcast nearly all TV anime, and BD releases keep coming out all the time.
>>423696 Do you have issues with reading comprehension? Normies are the outsiders coming to 4chan for the purpose of destroying it because it's an anime-centric site. Normies hate anime so much that they'll spend their free time trying to get it removed from a site that they otherwise would never even visit.
>>423705 Normies are the people who keep coming here from /r/anime led by normies like yourself for the sole purpose of destroying the site by shitposting smug anime pics in order to prevent people from talking about anything else but anime.
>>423708 Right, so let us recall what I said in my first post: >They'll even claim, if necessary, that 4chan never had anything to do with anime and that "weeaboos" (i.e. mythological beings) just took over the site. This is how normies operate.
>>423708 How fucking deluded you are to even suggest that such a shitty dead place actually has any influence here.
That place is not even a fraction of /a/'s activity level. The way they talk is absolutely not /a/'s style either in that they're a shitty fucking hugbox like basically all other anime sites. /a/ could overpower them, not the other way around. This is because leddit doesn't actually like anime that much relative to all the other shit it discusses. Just because it exists doesn't mean anyone from there actually comes here. They literally do not even seem to know about us and if they do, they're exactly the timid snowflake types who unironically call 4chan "scary".
What 4chan was in the past. What it is now. They're not the exact same thing. Anime is not what 4chan is all about, and hasn't been for many years. But anime is an important part of 4chan to this day. Some people shitpost against anime things for replies, and some people will post anime just for replies. Both sides are the problem. And if anyone actually does have something against all anime, then they should just leave 4chan.
>>423683 >Kid's anime has not gone anywhere, and both Dragon Ball and Pokemon still get new shows. Remakes and reboots made only for nostalgiafags. No kids will watch the new dbz, it's literally for now grown-up nostalgiafags.
Face it, Naruto is over and there's nothing new for the kids to watch. Western kids today do not watch anime.
Western cartoons are on the rise. Adventure time, steven universe, Rick and Morty...
>>423707 I find it amusing that /a/ coopted an /r9k/ meme and tried to redefine it, except everybody outside the /a/ hugbox knows the /r9k/ definition.
Once again /a/ proves that they're completely out of touch, and that they're not a real part of 4chan. They don't understand 4chan culture, they don't interact with the rest of 4chan (except for the odd raid now and then,) and they don't share any interests with the rest of 4chan. They might as well be from another site.
>>425132 "Normie" =/= normalfag and never did. /a/'s usage of normalfag literally predates r9k as a board. Shows how much you know you utter sciolist liar.
/r9k/ are normalfags to /a/ thus they actually have no right to use their "normie" interchangeably with "normalfag". " normies" are people with gfs who aren't depressed fucks. Normalfags are anyone who does not understand what it's like to like 2D people more than actual (3D) ones, which is to say most of you fucks outside of /a/ indeed fall under that including /r9k/. They are in fact super normalfag for being emo bitches beating themselves up over being failed normalfags who wish they weren't. /a/ is fine if not quite happy being what it is, /r9k/ is not.
Why can't /a/ respect site culture? Everytime I go on /a/, I see >no twitter screencaps >no rec threads >no filename threads And you have to scroll for pages to find a single immigrant discussion or scatological reference. What the hell am I supposed to screencap? Why does this shitty ass sub still operate?
>>425218 It's normal to like animu girls so much that you literally, seriously do not care about actual girls anymore and get mad at people who ridicule you thinking that it's impossible to be like this?
If that was the case then anime and 2D waifus would be as mainstream and accepted as Marvel movies. Clearly most people do not get it and don't actually like anime girls enough to break off actual relationships. This "/a/ is normalfag" shit you're implying only pops up on /qa/ where asinine people (likely just one eternally butthurt faggot given this board's traffic) go through ever-more complex mental gymnastics to try to deny all the history of 4chan and the rightful place of /a/ being here.
>>424349 Pokemon and DB are first and foremost for the Japanese market, where kids watch them (along with many other shows). If American kids don't watch to watch them then that's their problem, not Japan's.
>>425457 No, it exists objectively. As I said, there are almost no similarities between the two.
There are two possible reasons why people try to claim they are the same thing: a) to elevate Western animation by riding the coat-tails of anime, or 2) to denounce anime by reducing it to the level of Western animation.
>>425462 It's all just animation and comics, weebfriend, whether you're talking about Astro Boy 鉄腕アトム or Popeye the Sailor Man. When you finally realize this you will know just how normal your hobby truly is.
>>425477 The word anime means animation, genius, I think in trying to be a true connisour of eastern animation that you have become overly preoccupied with the subtle differences between western and eastern cartoons when to most western people there is no difference between whatever your favorite show threads on /a/ are about and The Simpsons and/or South Park. It's all just cartoons.
>>425481 >The word anime means animation, genius The Japanese word hana means flower. It can also mean nose. Does that mean flowers and noses are the same thing? Does it mean that a water tap--hana in Finnish--is the same thing as a flower or nose?
>I think in trying to be a true connisour of eastern animation that you have become overly preoccupied with the subtle differences between western and eastern cartoon The differences are not subtle. They are very obvious and very comprehensive.
In what way do you think this is exactly like Western animation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dG7Rg_WiXYI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVf7fiQG1NM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DflP5mBsivA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixF6PXdIBmo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rR1cMPnMcaY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tq5CV71SD1s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_DyGOtXKRo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08R-c8Hid_E https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7X5H_y4secc#t=4m44s
>to most western people there is no difference Anyone with a functioning brain and a rudimentary amount of intellectual honesty can plainly see the differences. There are also countless other differences that exist even if laymen don't see them.
>>425216 >Normalfags are anyone who does not understand what it's like to like 2D people more than actual (3D) ones, which is to say most of you fucks outside of /a/ indeed fall under that including /r9k/. They are in fact super normalfag for being emo bitches beating themselves up over being failed normalfags who wish they weren't What the fuck are you on about retard? You are just as bad as the retards who think normie came first. Please refer pic related and fucking educate yourself.
>>425201 >normalfag comes from /r9k/ shiggy >>425225 /a/ is full of /v/-tier memes desu, each and every one pummeled into the ground over years of abuse by newfags. Different flavor of the same shit, all the large boards are like that.
