/a/ has always enjoyed favoritism from the mods and moot. That's still true even now, under Hiro.

A lot of what /a/nons call "self-moderation" was paradoxically something only possible because of how carefully moderated the board is. /a/'s mods for a long time did not interfere in the mechanations of the community. If /a/nons decided to spam naruto off the board, they not only permitted it but actually banned naruto posters to go along with it.

That mostly stopped when moot decided to force /a/ to admit naruto posters due to their whinging on /q/. But that also made things very chilly between /a/ and the mods, and there were some doxing events and other things that eventually led to some concessions which we still see in effect: /a/ has a limited allowance of NSFW content and also does not allow recommendation threads, both things are now officially sanctioned by Hiro and the mods, where before they had been more unwritten rules created by the community.

/a/ had and has good (as good as it can be) moderation but they also helped themselves. A lot of boards should learn from /a/ about how to deal with /pol/ trash, newfags who want to be spoonfed, and retards who cares about other sites and come here for validation.
