Boards falling into disarray and ruin

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

I think its time we start keeping track of what boards are currently falling into disrepair and why. That way people know which boards are going to shit and we can keep track of them.

Current boards already shit and only getting worse:
/v/
/tv/
/d/
/int/
/pol/
/g/
/r9k/
/b/
/vp/
[s4s]
/qa/
/tg/
/asp/

Boards currently becoming shit:
/m/
/lit/
/mu/
/sci/
/ck/
/aco/
/sp/
/x/

Boards seemingly doing ok so far:
/a/
/jp/
/mlp/
/vr/
/fit/
/his/

As you can see, the vast majority of boards on 4chan are already pure fucking shit. Meaning the shitposting has gotten so bad they are becoming unusable and many oldfags are beginning to jump shit and bail

Boards currently becoming shit were boards doing pretty well, but now thanks to a dose of both shit moderation and invaders from Reddit and elsewhere, these boards are being infested with shitposters as well, causing a massive degression in the quality of posts.

The boards that are doing okay however, are surprisingly enough the containment board /mlp/ and of course /a/ and /jp/. /his/ is also doing decently despite what many people might say. So as you can see, we have a major problem on our hands

Feel free to screencap and post proof of how bad your board is

I think its time we start keeping track of what boards are currently falling into despair and why. That way people know which boards are going to kill themselves and we can keep them on suicide watch.
>>
I wonder. If you took 2 shitposting-boards, for example /v/ and /tv/, and increased moderation on one, and lowered moderation on the other, would most of the shitposters just go to the 2nd one?
>>
>>409755
[s4s] is in no way in any trouble nor needing any fixing. Caring about the wellbeing of [s4s] is contrary to the purpose of the board.

/qa/ is currently my favourite board and I see no reason to make any changes to it.

I'm not familiar with most of the other boards on the top list. I definitely don't like /r9k/ because of the chosen subject matter so I can't distinguish shitposts from good posts. As for /b/, I think it could really do well to have a few less porn threads, or a few more non-porn threads. Either way. Just make the ratio a little more "Random" than it is.

I suppose with randomness you never can tell though. There's a single chain of nine hundred fours in a row in pi around seven hundred thousandths digits. We might just be on the single unbroken chain of seven hundred black cocks right now. Who knows?
>>
>>409779
/tv/ is a lost cause now. Increased moderation on /v/ would work, if the mods did their jobs
>>
>>409762
A lot of it is just moderation.

I mean I see a lot of shit while I lurk on /m/ and because there's no new game /vp/ gets nightly raids of frogs, porn, or scat. Those same shitposters later hide into the anime threads and continue there.

Then it gets worse off when reporting said shitposting does nothing like it happens a lot in /m/ or it ends with people being banned for reporting it like it happens in /vp/.

/tv/ just needs to be put out of it's misery and deleted or just rebooted with heavy moderation. You seriously can't even talk about anything or have light-hearted discussions without memeposting/shitposting invading all the threads and people calling each other reddit left and right.

Also it's not even just reddit visitors that are shitting up the boards. It's anons thinking other anons are reddit because either they are posting something that doesn't cater to their tastes or they are just looking for a quick bait and troll to derail the thread and get people angry because they get off of that kind of shit.

Memeposting and shitposting are out of control on all major boards and Mods and Janitors aren't doing a thing about it. They are just letting everyone just shit the bed.

Mods, Janitors, and Anons are truly destroying this place at an alarming pace. I get that each board shouldn't get too heavily invested in discussions on each board, as 4chan was designed for quick and easy discussions to deal with the oncoming traffic. However that's not the case anymore due to all the memeposting/shitposting filling up threads while people are trying to have an honest light-hearted discussion on topics.

People say you should just "report and ignore shitposting" but how can you when it's ever so constant? Also if you ban shitposters they just come back in full force and shitpost even harder than before because they are mad that someone reported them or aren't paying attention to them.

Hiro needs to clean house on the Mods/Janitors and anons really need to self moderate more and more. At this rate 4chan is either going to get fucking deleted and rebooted or get exchanged to a new owner.

/vp/ rep here.

/vp/ has improved in the past week after heavy, heavy outcry from anons.
Whether this is shitposters being banned or moderation being quicker on their feet, or perhaps the old /tr/ainers being galvanized into action, the latter half of the week had many, many creative threads that I would say left /vp/ in the most creative and positive week since the ORAS-fallout.

If this trend continues, and moderation continues to keep anime thread shitposters, the furporn posters, and the frogs at bay, then /vp/ might make it through to October when next-game hype starts again.

However, a lapse at any moment will sink /vp/.

If you would consider, /vp/ is starting chemotherapy right now but any lapse in prophylactic antibiotic therapy might leave /vp/ with septic bacteremia and in a terminal state.

Boards whose problems are to be blamed on a lack of moderation or quality janitors:
>/tv/
>/pol/
>/qa/
>/d/
>/aco/
>/x/

Solution: sign up to be a janitor for these boards, post quality content to shove shit content off the board; and hide, filter, sage, report.

Boards whose problems are to be blamed for sheer size (too much shit drowns out quality content):
>/v/
>/b/ (it was never good, though)
>[s4s]
>/tg/
>/a/

Solution: it can't be helped

Boards whose problem is the community itself:
>/tv/
>/r9k/
>/int/
>/d/
>/v/
>/tg/
>/sci/
>/lit/
>/mu/
>/sp/

Solution: stop posting, faggot

Boards whose problem is a mod using it as their personal board:
>[s4s]
>/d/

Solution: Rotate the master of memes on [s4s]. swaglord's problem is not dankness, just a monopoly on dankness. If /d/'s mod wants a futa-only board, then he should fucking make one. /d/ is for alternative hentai, not futa and futa only. You can have your futa, but let other people have their non-futa threads too.

>/x/

Did you last visit /x/ in 2011 or something?

Anyway, /co/ seems to be somewhere around the middle and lower tiers. It's got some issues like the nonstop waifu, husbando, and fetish threads, as well as all the off-topic things try to sneak onto there. I sometimes get the feeling that most of /co/'s denizens aren't very willing to go beyond what they are familiar with in the mediums, hence these problems and having some subjects being a constant on the board, generals or no generals.
>>
>>410032
To add to that last bit, I do recall an attitude in regard to subjects like Hellboy that are generally received positively, i.e. they're not discussed often because there's not much more to be said, which is something usually brought up whenever such subjects have a thread.

>>
I agree with the notion but we're dealing with primo shitheads on every one of those boards who will tell you that they think their shitpile of choice is 'just fine' or 'never better'.

I will say that /vr/ could use one more mod/janitor who wouldn't tolerate /v/-style shitposting, that's basically the only thing putting a damper on that board right now.

As for /v/, I say make a new /v/ and rename the current /v/ as /b2/ because that's what it really is, /b/ with video games sometimes. At least /nv/ could potentially discuss actual new video games. Let the shitters on /v/ be what they are, blue /b/tards, and give vidya back to the vidya fans.

>>

Since /vg/ is missing I'd like to adress it. It strongly depends o the general you're browsing, because every general's community is different depending on the game. The Souls generals, for example, are fucking insufferable (this is coming from someone who has platinum'd the series). Meanwhile, slower generals like /dfg/ (Dwarf Fortress) are doing fine.
This is interesting because it illustrates the problem with growing userbases and easier accessibility: The more people there are, the less thought and effort is put into every single post.

I don't see a huge problem with /pol/ in fact I admire the fact that people can go there and talk about taboo things. In real life if you mention anything about Nazis or Hitler people are going to get mad especially if what you have to say isn't something negative. /pol/ allows this kind of discussion to take place, there aren't many places that you can openly discuss whether or not the holocaust happened without being strung up burned.

/r9k/ developed it's own culture over time and once again, where else are you going to find basement dweller central other than wizardchan? Sure there are shitty threads like tfw no gf or anything to do with fembots but overall I like that board.

As [s4s], just leave it. I like going there to participate in the autistic circle jerk of memes that make no sense and changing it wouldn't really improve it.

Fair point, there are a lot of threads there that have nothing to do with politics and they should be pruned

The holocaust denial is pretty absurd though. people on /pol/ can't seem to grasp that it wasn't just a few authors writing about the Holocaust that convinced the world, it was 1000s of people soon after the war saying the exact same thing. >>
>mods deleting a thread that's been up for 13+ hours with 13 replies that's on page 5 asking if /sp/ seems slower

Mods should fucking get gassed for ruining that board and being unable to handle anything.
>>
>>416028
Sad, but true. Luckily there's still some decent discussion to be found, but it's getting scarcer and scarcer.
>>
>>414759
those anons already shifted to wizchan a long time ago. Now those anons who just found r9k and have been basement dwellers for years or redditors are there except for the /pol/, fembot and some tripfags like doj derailing which happens on majority of quality posts
>>
>>410154
you can't even post a suggestion post without all the shitposters filling your thread without any actual discussion in /v/
>>
>>410579
rello heddit, but seriously reddit posting is just a meme now
>>
>>416033
>>416028
I wish /tg/ was good again.

>>414759
It seems pretty malicious what happened to /r9k/. It wasn't a good board, but it developed its own culture. It should have been allowed to keep it. Instead, the users were chased out with pitchforks and replaced with... Nothing.

>>410154
I don't think anyone would say that boards like /d/ are "just fine."

Boards like /d/ are just fine.

>self moderate

What do you mean by this? If you're proposing that posts automatically get deleted when they receive enough reports, then absolutely not. You'd just be turning 4chan into a tyranny of the majority. This would be especially bad for /pol/, which would become a right-wing echo chamber where absolutely no one is entitled to have a dissenting opinion.

Hiro just needs to step up his game and get more competent / active staff on board. Instead of relying on users to report posts, have moderators who actually lurk the boards they're assigned to so they can prune some of this content on they encounter it.

Before anyone says
>but some boards are too fast
Even slower boards have little to no moderation as it is, even with users reporting the same posts dozens of times, which remain up for DAYS before moderators step in and do something about them. Obviously, the speed of the board isn't a problem - the staff simply isn't paying attention, or there aren't enough people assigned to every board.

Take /hm/ for example. The sticky explicitly says no selfies or /soc/ content allowed. Most threads are /soc/ content. You can try reporting them, but it will take days for them to be deleted, if ever. And usually, the moderators just let them off with a warning. The same /soc/ camwhores just come back and keep posting selfies despite being warned over and over again. Just recently, a moderator replied to the sticky with yet another warning about posting selfies, this time in bold visible letters that should catch the board's attention. Made absolutely no difference. /hm/ is still swamped in /soc/ content, and none of the posters are being banned for it.

In /a/ terms, "self moderate" means shitpost until the thread you don't like autosages.
>>
>>410154
That's why perhaps more moderation and more janitors who are not underage faggots could help /v/

>/mlp/
>doing okay

I browsed from 2010 until 2012 and it was doing alright.
Near the end of my run, 19/20 threads were "generals"
Generals are inherently shitty and are posted even when there is fucking nothing to discuss.

of course 18/19 of those threads were diaperfags or inflation generals.

That board was mega cancer 3 years ago, I don't even want to go back and see what it is now.
>>
>>417580
>massive hyperbole
If you expect anyone to care about your opinion you should attempt to give estimates that are remotely correct. Generals and CYOAs/quests account for about half of the board. The more extreme fetishes that are allowed (vore, inflation, fat) have single threads that account for less than a tenth of the generals. The second part has been true since /mlp/'s conception and has never had any growth

You're just as bad as the idiots that claim /tg/ is over half quests at any given time. The boards have issues, excessive exaggeration makes them prone to being dismissed or ignored.
>>
>>417562

Still works better than Mod moderating.
>>
>>418173
No, it's worse. You're giving that thread replies. They win every time they get any kind of attention.
>>
>>410144
I've heard killing yourself is a gay old time, maybe you should try that.
>>
>>418179
Mods and janitors barely do their jobs though.
>>
I'm getting sick of the constant anti-weeb spam on /v/ as of late. You can't even talk about anime shit anymore without getting called a pedo by some westacuck
>>
>>418429
Filter them. Anyone is saying pedo on /v/ has nothing of value to say anyway.
>>
>>418430
But its just so numerous it derails threads constantly
>>
>“[It] honestly makes me cringe a little bit because she’s only 13 years old,” said Morris. “People are calling it censorship. I really see it as localization. There are a lot of cultural differences between Japan and the US and Europe. I, personally, don’t mind that Lin’s outfits were change for the US version. My hope is that players will be able to concentrate on Lin’s abilities and what she can bring to your game and what she can do for the other members of her party and not just how she looks. I also think that covering Lin up a little bit will make parents more comfortable with kids playing the game, so it also opens the game up for a wider audience.”
-Cassandra Lee Morris, VA for Lin in Xenoblade X weighing in on "localization" for the game.

You know things are bad when even the VA's are in support of censorship
>>
>>418434
Ugh was going to post this on /v/. Fucking tabs.

However this brings up a good point: You can't even talk about shit like this without the thread getting derailed by faggots saying "lol who cares" or "go back to 8gag"
>>
>>418431
Filter recursively. It'll be as if the derailment never happened.
>>
>>418434
Frankly I don't care about the outfits either. They are DUMB outfits and the original Xenoblade didn't have anything like that so you can tell they were really pandering to an undesirable audience. What she's saying isn't exactly a bad point.

What bothers me though is the breast slider change because I wanted to make a flat chested protagonist. THAT should be a player's choice.
>>
>>418437
That's not gonna help matters. Filtering shit like that will not do anything at all. Instead you need to get the janitors and mods to make public bans on people calling others pedos in anime/Japanese game threads. Hiro told us to go to the IRC channel, but he doesn't realize that the mods will ban anyone on there complaining to them
>>
>>418438
>What bothers me though is the breast slider change because I wanted to make a flat chested protagonist. THAT should be a player's choice.
There literally was no reason for that to be removed at all.
>>
>>418439
Then before anything else we need to get Hiro to do something about the mods. We need people who are actually on the same wavelength as him.
>>
>>418442
And that is the problem in all of this: The mods are not on the same page as him, they are still on moot's.

The mods have already gone behind Hiro's back, putting in word filters he didn't know about and going against his word on certain issues
>>
>>418427
That doesn't mean you should reply to threads you hate with every fiber of your soul. Make a big fuss of it, and some absolute jackass is going to make it again just to piss you off. Most people on this website are at ground level at best. many of them are below dirt. I know all too well how hard it is to not shout 1,500 expletives per second at someone that makes a bad thread. But replying is a bad idea unless you live close enough to knock him hard on the jaw once or twice.
