Saging a thread should be public, and announcing sage shouldn't be a bannable offense. Back when you were able to sage publicly, people just scrolling would see a shit thread, see that a few people have saged out of disapproval, and proceed to either ignore the thread or also sage out of disapproval. Nowadays, people mainly post (you) out of disapproval, and I'm willing to bet they don't even sage, so it bumps the thread, and attracts more shitposters.

Yes, I realize sage was never originally intended to be 4chan's implementation of a downvote, but that's how 99% of people used it. And, compared to how things are now, I'd say it was pretty effective.

What is going on with the progressively overreaching actions of 4chan's moderators/janitors? I actually do not base this on personal experience or a ban of my own but rather what I observe from the 4chan.org/bans list.

There are so many on here that are seemingly trivial or completely within the scope of the rules/nature of the board that got banned. What the fuck are these mods doing?

Just look at this one. Some dude tried to start an anal twitching thread on /gif/ and he got banned for "posting a request outside of /r/" even though there wasn't even a single mention of a request in the thread. Did they just blindly press the ban button? What the fuck
