Trump is 20 points ahead in New Hampshire as of yesterday. But he is losing momentum as of today, Rubio is clearly rising whatever the reason clean or not, and Trump significantly underperformed his polls. So it could very well be that Trump ends up second to Rubio in NH especially if Cruz does well. He doesn't need to go down the full 20 points, only by 8-10, and all Rubio has to is pull up by 6-8. The debate could seal the deal.

250,000 people attended Trump rallies in Iowa yet he didn't even win 50,000 votes. Rally attendance simply is not an indicator of either support or mobilization and this does explain the low energy in the crowds. If anything he might have turned off voters with some of his rambling performance.

A Trump win in Iowa was always pretty far fetched. The republican primaries in there are always about Jesus, and that is basically it. Things were much closer in Iowa, and Cruz was actually leading there until pretty recently. Iowa might have set a precedent of Trump under performing compared to his poll numbers, but he might do better in states where it's a purely secret ballot and you don't have to stand up and announce yourself as a Trump supporter to all of your neighbors like in Iowa.

Iowa was never really fertile ground for Trump to begin with, I was pretty surprised he ever took the lead in the polls there, the most evangelical candidate always wins there.

And this is one of the most significant elections of our lifetime because the President will have the opportunity to appoint two or more Supreme Court Justices in the party checkmate.
