I used to be into polyamory and I've seen a lot of other people into it.

I've been in a couple of different configurations; at first my girlfriend and I wanted to open our relationship and we read a lot about polyamory.

I met another cute girl, she met two guys but ended up not doing anything with them (she kissed one once).
I ended up in two relationship and it was a pill trying to divide my attention.

In the end I broke up with my old girlfriend, cruised polyamory in only name with my new girlfriend (we had exactly the same taste in women and couldn't share, weird competitive thing that led to a purely monogamous relationship in practice).

I know this probably doesn't come as a surprise to anyone here, but it just doesn't work. There is not a single polyamorous relationship where someone isn't paying a far higher price than the others.

Every documentary, every poly relationship I've come across, there's always someone deeply miserable. Or it's used intentionally or unintentionally to leapfrog from one relationship to another without just breaking up first.

I was poly royalty in certain circles, dating two high profile feminists (don't ask). It got me a lot of female attention. People thought our relationship was amazing. You know why? Because every poly person is looking for proof that it's possible to make it work. But it's only possible if someone in the chain has low self esteem enough to put up with the crap.

I doubt there's many that will consider it, but if you do, don't fucking do it. It's not worth it.

People obsessed with sex and (instant)gratification. It attracts young people that want to be different. It attracts late twenties and thirties people that aren't interested in having children and seek pleasure. It attracts 40+ people that have kids that have grown up and don't want to divorce their partner, but want sex from someone else.

To sum up the second force: it's an excuse to suddenly call promiscuity something positive. And that makes it wuite an attractive choice.
