>tfw I can shitpost from my treestand
Anyone else hunting today?
I'll sound stupid, and I don't know anything about guns.
Is that a mosin ? I vaguely remember then having that curved magazine.
Do you need a licence to hunt, and if so, do they allow you to use that kind of ammunition ?
Yes, it's a Mosin.
Typically you'll need a deer tag, which are easy to get. You need a hunters safety card and you just buy one at Walmart or something like that. I dunno how the ammo restrictions work here OP is from, but here you can hunt deer with any centerfire cartridge.
I can answer you frenchie. Yes, to hung legally requires the purchase of a hunting license which is relatively inexpensive in most states. This license must be renewed annually. There are no limits on the type of ammunition, at least in my state, although there are limits on the caliber. The limits are set based on minimum caliber necessary to kill the animal effectively and 'humanely.'
Hunting is well regulated in most states but not intrusively so.
And yes it is fun as long as your property has a decent population of game animals
Yeah it's a glorious rifle of Sergei Mosin design.
To get a hunting license in your home state you have to first complete a hunter education course which is pretty easy, then purchase a hunting license from pretty much anywhere that sells sporting goods stuff.
Overlooking same pond earlier this season, is this a meme rifle too?
lol shitposting from your treestand.
i used to do the same thing, with the same rifle even.
have fun when dinner walks out of the woods and you miss it because you're too busy jerking off to trap porn
And yeah as long as you use expanding/mushrooming bullets you can use any centerfire calibur rifle you want.
Europeans are sick fucks when it comes to 'hunting':
Although I suppose it's better than here: there aren't even fucking songbirds or squirrels in Korea. This place is utterly devoid of non-human life.
How is this a /pol/ thread that's the real question here. Anyways what state are you hunting in OP?
Went to the range today to prepare for a hog hunt coming up, my goal is to take a hog with my AR, my shotgun and my mosin in the same day.
Thanks for the answers.
Here getting a hunting licence is relatively inexpensive, but there's a written exam which can be hard depending on the questions.
I considered getting one as I often spend holidays in the countryside, but then I'd need to buy a safe, register on half a dozen lists, and face the retarded bureaucracy when it comes to guns.
Why is it such a crime?
The meat in your fridge was an innocent poor animal once, the birds flying outside your window kill and devour small insects all the time. Boo hoo for the insects but something has to die for another to eat.
>scary looking assault rifle
Please tell me you're memeing son.
This here mutha fucka is right. I'd love to get a good reproduction of the m98 as well as the springfield 1903 and a lee enfield. I have a little bit of a borderline sexual fetish for the first world war.
>Hitting anything beyond 50 yards with your poorfag rifle.
Gonna go shot my .45 across my land. I plan ln tossing lra ges and some rotting avocados in and hit em'. That's about it for today, gun wise.
Got the same licence/permit deal here.
Hilariously a bunch of jihadi shiteaters took the hunters test a couple of years back. Went to media WE GET GUNZ LEGALLY NOW OOGA BOOGA! And were properly pissed off when several of them were not allowed ownership at all. And the few who did could not get the AYY KAYY FOWRTY SEVVEN, but basic shotguns/bolt actions instead.
I'm so used to seeing people say shit like this 100% unironically, I really can't tell if this is all bait or not.
If its not, you'd better not eat meat, faggots. The shit you buy at the supermarket is far more cruel than any hunted animal is.
I know Simo. This faggot is just upset he didn't get one before prices went up.
The Mauser is simply the best value / performance surplus rifle out there currently since the Mosin is reaching undesirable prices.. Everyone in America drools over awful condition Garands asking for too much.
M968 is literally the only weapon I've ever used.
>tfw I need to jump through hundreds of loops to get a weapon
Growing a food plot is not illegal in any state that I have hunted in. Hunting over bait or using a feeders is restricted in some states but have never heard of a food plot being illegal.
Hey, I was wondering, I saw all these pictures of british sport guns with metal bars sticking from the handle in order to make them legal, and I was wondering : if the category and legality of the gun depends on its length, are you allowed to replace your metal stick with a full-length stock ? And keep it legal ?
No idea, lad. Might as well get a rifle or shotgun then instead. Think those are easier to get as well.
No shit you feminine fuckboy.
NEWSFLASH: nature is cruel and barbaric. If our ancestors did things your way we'd be at the bottom of that clusterfuck instead of being the apex predators we are.
Just like you're the bottom in your relationship.
Lad, why would you need a pistol grip on a shotgun? You don't need that for hunting
>never held a firearm
That's literally impossible and I actually own a Mosin, it's a good rifle to show to people because of the history behind it. But it's a shit rifle in reality.
This shit is not COD. It was never a good rifle to begin with.
>hurr tree stand
get off and go track an animal like a fucking man you queer
i bet your one of those dudes who puts out bait and food troughs with with crushed up xanax and vicodin in it
stay away. there are enough subhuman psychopaths coming in. we don't need more hunters or other scum.
killing someone who deserves it would be non-degenerate. hunters are pathetic lowlifes. go to syria and do something useful or something risky for a change.
>tfw im just improving my shitposts abilities and you all fell for my bait
That would be a very disgusting way to hunt.
I do stalk turkey, and I'd happily stalk deer if it ever snowed where I live at and if there wasn't swamp every 100 yards they walk/swim through.
>I was just pretending to be retarded
It's 2016, hasn't this gone on long enough?
lol, that's hilarious.
UK doesn't even 2nd Amendment
>self defense is not a valid reason to own a gun
Build your own
The most dangerous game
Whats wrong with M70?
Of course not.
It's police's job to defend you... when they arrive ten minutes after your murder.
>Hunting with a Mosin with iron sights
At least you didn't have government campaign to eradicate them (crashing the ecosystem and stupid shit like that) right?
You can go hunting without a license when you do it together with a hunters that have license and 15 years of experience.
Just go to your local hunting club and ask if they will take you with them for a evening or two
Youre doing Israel a great service, goy.
>calling immobile sniping hunting
at least i hope you fags use all of the animals and not throw them away. sell the leather, bones etc.
my grandfather used to go hunting in the plains of crops and snowy mountains.
he has a double barrel shotgun and a hunting dog.
hunted rabbits, birds and occasionally boars.
he has to shoot the prey on the move when the dog lured it out.
it also needed 'cooperation' with the dog, knowing how it finds the rabbits so he is at a good position to shoot it while it jumped to run away.
that is hunting, not comfy sitting sniping or unsuspected animals with no chance of getting away.
With the amount of land I have availible to hunt on currently, it is the best option.
Also, stalk hunting and laying down your scent is a good way to make deer vacate your hunting land. The less you disturb the wildlife, the more they are inclined to travel your land.
Also, next time flick me off yourself rather than posting the last picture of some chick who threw herself under a train.
i don't know the story.. what happened to the qt? who is she?
i understand deer hunt is different than rabbits but i still don't see the satisfaction in sniping. more like depressed feels.
i used to speargun fishing and that also needed to actually hunt and move throught rocks while holding breath to look like part of the sea. however the fish can see well somehow and are easily startled.
Lmao nice try faggot
Same rifle, different treestand.
Did I not say in the post replying that one that I was sitting the same pond but earlier in the season with a different rifle because they called me out on using a nagant?
If I'm not mistaken, I posted that pic on /k/ as well.
>people like you actually think we give a shit about your feelings
Nope, but a buddy of mine said one of his coworkers saw signs that feral pigs are getting thick about 70 miles south of me, so I may have to pick a pigthumper and go down and eradicate some hogs.
Sounds fun. There are quite a few small farms around where I live that are more than happy to welcome hunters to take care of their wild hog problems. You just have to know the right people to get ahold of them.
The rules vary from state to state.
Here, most big game is on a lottery system for tags. The state is divided up into units and each unit will have various hunt dates. You then put in your first through third choices, and if you draw, you get a tag. During rifle season, deer and pronghorn (aka antelope) can be hunted with any center fire rifle or pistol cartridge. Elk and Oryx require a .243 or larger center fire cartridge. I'm not sure about bear and cougar for legal sporting arms.
Small game stuff is over the counter, and if you are a non-resident, you need a non-game tag to hunt animals that aren't considered game and aren't protected.
This is mostly on public land. They're making their way up the middle rio grande valley. I expect that in a few years, they'll be behind my house. I'll have to figure out how to convince the fags at open space to allow hog hunting with bows or at least atl atls or some shit.
Go and sit your firearm safety test and get your licence. Australia has kick-ass hunting year round.
As for spiders, snakes, drop bears. Wear decent gators and boots. You will be fine.
>tfw shitposting from the laundromat
>too much of a cuck to ask for the WiFi password so I'm using 4G
8 hours of my time - .75$ = 200lbs of deer which I need to skin/package, and clean/maintain all my gear so another 1 (being conservative here)
8 hours of work at 35$/h gets me 280$, even with taxes I'm ahead with working.
Lots of /pol/ is anti-hunting and that's suprising.
Hello people, when shit hits the fan and food prices skyrocket, you're gonna wish you had some land to hunt on and the knowledge to cure and prepare meat from animals.
I had a good time about 2 months ago when rifle season opened up.
Made it back to camp
No bigfoot or skinwalker attacks in the dark this time
Already put down three Deer with it all of them fell in place and died.
The key is to not shoot past 200 yards unless you have practice, and to not take a shot once it gets too dark out.
You have to wear blaze orange when whitetail deer hunting in my statw so you will be visible to other hunters although you can remove it once you are further than 12 feet off the ground in a treestand.
I still had mine on because the wind was blowing and I forgot my camo Ushanka
1. I would be mad too if I couldn't buy an AR
2. Canadians literally have no excuse not to own an XCR (brick-red in photo)
Had problems with these assholes.
Tagged out in October.
Poland have only one friend, cuckory of cuckories USA, they will bow germony when germony is weak, USA will support it, install own people, and every one is happy, but not ivan, so proxy wars goes on, and ivan might fuck all east of EU in butt to ensure peace
Yeah, 39. The xcrs had fte probs when it was a new design ten years ago. Those reputations tend to stick around well past their effective date (se ar15 jamming). I've never had a problem with mine except for when I was dialing in the gas piston adjustment and using wolf and trying to find the least amount I could use and still operate.
>sit in a tree
>move your finger 1/10 inch
>LOOK AT MEE IM AM A HUNTER !!
That rifle better have only a seven round clip, and that scope better be under 40x magnification. Also I can't tell, but if that's not a wood stock, that may be illegal. To me it looks like it might be one of those dangerous .75 caliber rifles. I might need to report you anon...
>go to a sporting goods store for reasons unrelated to hunting
>walk by the firearms section
>see scopes being sold for at least $300
Retarded nogunz here, could someone explain why they're that expensive? At least at the level found at a sporting goods store.
While I'm asking stupid questions, how does deer taste compared to beef?
Scopes go all the way up to $2000+ and typically the more you pay, the clearer you will see through it. Also the magnification and lens size normally make the price go up.
As for deer meat, it can sometimes be a slight bit gamey but for the most part tastes like really lean beef.
Materials. Think what a scope has to do, it has to be perfectly aligned with the rifle and hold a precise position in all kinds of temperature and weather, getting jostled around by the force of the weapon firing, without fogging over or warping minutely or scratching easily or weighing too much. A common rule of thumb is that the optics on your rifle should cost at minimum half the price of the rifle.
Though to be entirely honest, if you're out recreation hunting and only need to fire three or four shots in an entire day, a cheapo K-Mart optic should do fine. People still hunt with atlatls in a lot of places, so as long as you're not embarrass to be a fudd, it's fine.
Optics are expensive because of the process in making them.
It makes rifle scopes one of those things where "you can spend as much money as you like," as in speakers, cars, jewelry, etc.
Further, you can buy a 9000x scope for $40, and you can also buy a 9000x for $1440, but there is a noticable quality difference. The sweet spot for low end appears to be $250-$450
NIgga you living in your parents basement or something?
Scratch off a Remington 700 unless it's pre-2000s
A group recently bought them out and their QC has gone to shit, resulting in many dud rifles that shoot 2-3+ MOA
The other two rifles are excellent choices for modern bolt rifles though.
Smith and Wesson M&P 15
good scopes can absorb the recoil and rugged situations experienced while hunting, have deep eye relief, and don't lose zero.
Idk why they cost so much, but the best reasonable optics really cost 200+, a good optic costs 500+, and very good ones can cost up to 1000
>not being able to kill a sedan from 2000 meters out
buy a Tikka, Remington quality has gone to shit in the past decade.
>not fuddy Awt Six
I like the t3, out of all of those rifles, but if I was going to get something for long range hunting id get an AR10, theyre so cheap now anyways. Plus the expandability and possibility for upgrades/caliber swaps.
Already posted pics of mine
It's okay. Shoots about 1.5 MOA but then again I haven't experimented with lots of ammo types yet. I've been flip-flopping between scopes because I can't decide on one I like for it.
Ive got a forged AR10 lower from united armory coming in hopefully a week or two, and I can finish up my build, considering every other part arrived in a week or less, including the upper.
Tikka and Weatherby have always made better rifles than Remington. They are also more expensive and don't have a YUGE amount of aftermarket parts to trick your gun out.
I really like my Dale edition. The tikka, weatherby, and X-bolt are all great guns too. The difference in quality is really not that substantial. New 700's can shoot very accurately out of the box, are strongly rust resistant, and are in general great guns.
And why? I'm a fucking nobody who lives in the middle of nowhere and has generic hazel-brown eyes because his great-great-grandfather fucked a feather Indian and it passed down all the way to me.
i dont know why but you covered your face, I was just letting you know that hiding your face but not youre eyes gives away your identity
anyway carry on, wish i could be hunting but vacation is over already
I still dont follow though... Zoom into that pic and look at my eyes. It's just blurry brown. Maybe if I had taken a really up close picture with really good quality and lighting then I might understand. I suppose I'll heed the warning for the future.
there is identification tech out now that can use still photos and drawings and stuff to find objects on the street in real time.
just an fyi i didnt mean to imply you have reasons to hide or anything
LOL salty britcuck, maybe that semi would help you hold off Ahmed and his friends in the 2016 siege of london.
Being hunter is suffering.
I have to drive out 2.5-3 hours to get to a county that I can actually hunt in, and if I go out 4 times a year, I'll be lucky if I get ONE wild pig.
Also, I swear the F&G dept tells the animals what tags you purchased, becuase I'll have like 5 pig tags and see nothing but elk, deer, and mountain goats until I decide to purchase a deer tag, there's like 40 giant hogs tearing everything up and scaring the deer away and I can't fucking shoot them because I don't have any pig tags that day.
Already explained here
Also, I do stalk turkey since you can't shoot them from a tree or elevated stand, I would actually try stalking deer if I could stalk their tracks through fresh snow but it never snows where I live. If I tried stalking now I'd just follow deer tracks until they meet someone else's property then have to turn back.
I only hunt boar that way, I walk around until I find a trail and follow it. Sometimes I see hogs and they immediately bolt, so I chase them down until they get tired and shoot one.
That sounds really fun. I wish had miles of land to do that on. If you tried to do that at a hunting reserve or other such place you'd probably end up disturbing other hunters or they'd call a game warden on you.
Imagine you're out hunting, and you see the brush moving, and what looks like antlers poking up from a 10 point buck.
Turns out it's another hunter pushing a branch out of the way as he's stalking an animal.
Some hunters jump the gun and shoot before they see your orange vest. Blinds and tree stands are safer and easier.
Sometimes I just want my hog meat.
Here in Texas 99% of land is owned, so I own 510 acres of exotic game hunting ranch. We used to sell hunts but not anymore, we just tranquilize the exotic animals that live here and sell them to other ranchers.
Schimitar horned oryx on my exotics ranch. They're basically extinct in the wild.
As long as you own the land it's sitting on.
Also you can just high game 12 foot fence your ranch if you don't want anything leaving. The deer on my ranch are prisoners, but it's big enough to where they don't care that much
