Do you want to build new future?
Free from cultural marxism?
With real equality, not BS about affirmative action and minorities quotes?
With true justice and fairness?

Come here, wise man:

How it should be done:
-----------------------------------
[?] - Establish the free fleet.
-----------------------------------
[0] - At first, we start as ecological institute\organisation\or some corporation. We take some funding from seasteading institutes, various ecological and research organisations.
-----------------------------------
[1] - Our first hive should be in ocean, therefore, we need floating structures (we should buy old oil rig or something).
For examples:
http://www.marinahousing.fi/en/technology/
http://www.floatingstructures.com/
(Why in ocean? Because 99.999% of land already claimed and that 0.001% is really hard to find).
-----------------------------------
[2] - We need free stuff to create something. How can we get it? One man's trash is another man's treasure. Literally. We will recycle the waste from rich countries (and they will pay for it). It will provide us glass, metal, electrical and electronical equipment, plastic and organic waste. btw, no one should be forced to do it manually - so, robots, automatisation and computers should take care about it.
How you SHOULD NOT do it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5A5zVNpkuzk

3.jpg
47KB, 654x354px
[3] - But we need not only these materials. We also need energy, water, food, fuel. At first, we will use wind turbines (for electricity) and solar thermal power plant (for electricity, water and chemicals, heat). At second, we can load organic waste into bioreactors to get heat, chemicals, fertilizers and methane (fuel and raw material), which after could be burned in gas turbines (electricity and heat). As for food there would be aquaponics, hydroponics and aquaculture. Also floating farms (minipigs, minicows, birds, rabbits, goats, sheeps and some furry animals) and gardens (fruits, vegetables, herbals). It's all also sources for our medical station.

-----------------------------------
[4] - We need more money, of course. For that, go back to [2]. Everything valuable, which can be repaired - should be repaired and sold. Things, which can't be repaired - should be disassembled into valuable components and materials. It's all can be sold to Africa\Asia\South America. Also, it can be sold to hipsters, ecofags and poorfags in wealthy countries.

[5] - We need even more money. Therefore, we go further in recycling - we will make something like planes\helicopters\ships\cars graveyard. The logic is same as in [4]. We can't use cars in ocean, but they're still nice source of materials.
How you SHOULD NOT do it:

-----------------------------------
[6] - Okay, if we made it all - we're pretty big (4u) colony. We should increase the territory - create\buy the new platform or make artifical island for establishing of state.
Link:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_island
-----------------------------------
[7] - Now, we're all into everything. You have a promising start up? Come here, m8, we have resources and specialists. You have a great web idea? Sure, lad, our data center will take care of it. Wanna new VPN? Hosting in our territory, whice have no copyright laws and shit? No problem. But we don't forget about our old business - wanna really cheap and powerful server? Maybe %%our brand production%% (of course we will establish our own brands - we have everything for manufacture)? Maybe generic medicine? Or UAV? Or repaired and improved ship\plane\helicopter? Maybe you wanna taste wine made from grape, that grow in ocean? Or very rare and unique wine made from grape, which grow in underwater basket?
-----------------------------------
[8] - Army and transportation - no draft in peace time. Some boots for close contacts, navy and airforce from [5]. But mostly, our defence forces are UAVs\USVs. As for transport - repaired and improved from [5], blimps, baloons.
-----------------------------------
[9] - Establishing the state and new city-ctates around the world. Including Antarctica.

The non-critical platforms, such as gardens, should be made from light and cheap material: plastic\plastic bottles. Little safety required.
The critical platforms, should be made from reliable and durable material: concrete, steel. Safety requirements changes from average (factories, farms) to maximal (living rooms).

Idea as old as boats, but ultimately impossible (which is why it's never happened).

The problem is redundancy and buffering. A single small structure, no matter the technology, does not have the ecological leeway necessary to support long-term survival. You need islands for that, preferably big ones. Because in all these conceptual drawings, a little bit of fire, mechanical failure, series of bad weather events, etc. would suffice to render it unusable. You'll need multiple ones as mutual support, backup, and integrated services. Which is, of course, an island. And even islands are susceptible to sudden population collapse. The only way to keep the fickleness of statistical unlikely collapse away is by bigger, more redundant, systems.

I dunno man I like the idea of a colony but can't we just take a bit of Africa from the niggers? The sea is an extremely unforgiving mistress and fulfilling even the most basic needs will cost incredible ammounts of money and effort.
- We need to genetically engineer a strain of every plant we eat or otherwise use to withstand the salt.
- We need to claim a piece of ocean that is outside territorial waters but still calm enough to live without having to bolt down every lamp in the colony.
- We need to export something but we have zero natural resources... so that means intellectual property (not many humans are capable of producing this) and/or refining imports (requires extreme ammounts of financial backing)
- We need to be recognized as a nation in order to let our laws take effect and be able to protect our intellectual property in the courts of other nations
- We need a very balanced mix of people and skills. Just recruiting any comers is not going to work since we would be stuck with 80% NEET boneheads.

Long story short, I don't think its likely to work.

You have no idea how much sanding and welding is necessary on those. Like seriously, no idea. What you do know is that it's "a whole fucking lot". It will take a hundred men several years to refurbish them, and that's just to remove dangerous and unlivable conditions.

If you wanna talk about how long it takes to build a floating /pol/ony from scratch, you need to enter a higher level of naïvete to think it's possible without a fanatic and frankly quite insane (and therefore dangerous to the organization) billionaire footing the bill.

There is no international standard for them, even though there have been trial projects.

Living on the sea, off the sea is an admirable goal, and I hope it becomes possible. But if it does, it will be an austere life, in practical but boring looking buildings, colored by risk, danger and constantly existing on the precipice of financial ruin.

It will be more like the permanent South Pole base, where only TRULY skilled people will be eligible for residence, and even then it will most likely be boring, an experiment for twenty years to check the viability of large scale deployment.

But to be quite honest, I do support anyone who is mad enough to try. I really wanna do it myself. I just don't think I'd be able to get the cash flow FROM the arcology to any sensible level. And if you don't do that, its only hope is to become a floating zoo, broadcasting the experiment as pay-per-view, taking the corporate cock to make sure you can eat tomorrow.

Childs play does not an engineer make. Watching youtube does not an engineer make. Playing games does not an engineer make.

School does.
Tutelage does.
Experience does.

So unless you know he can singlehandedly design machines, source materials, machine components and assemble the parts into a fully working, one of a kind machine that does not fail for several years, within two nines tolerance, fucking shut the hell up.

Kids like to think they're smart. So do idiots. It's called the Dunning-Kruger effect. Most people grow out of it.

It's a pic of abandoned seabases off the british coast, they have been used to live in by crazy people such as yourself, and were one of the candidates for when The Pirate Bay were talking about "getting their own island" to avoid legal action.

Turns out, they're derelicts requiring thousands of man hours to refurbish. And you know what? That's the "easy way" to make a floating/sea bound arcology. That's cutting corners. That's being MacGyver, AND having money.

You just don't seem to understand the scale of the project very well.

It's an infinitely better variant for one simple reason: It physically exists. It's been used for living. You can do proof-of-concept tests for much of the woo woo named in the design pics in this thread in them, prove to investors that it's possible.

It's the only way to do it cheaply. So yeah, it's a better variant.

You do know that apart from Space X's recent launches, basically all rocket engines used to push payloads to orbit have been refurbished engines from the 60's and 70's right. Because building them anew is way too expensive. For governments. That have billion doller budget overages.

Like, seriously, just read about dunning kruger, it's not gospel or anything, but it's a real cognitive bias that you and anyone thinking it's easy to do hard things have.

I recommend you watch what he has done, in order to get a sense of the labour-intensity of such a task. I can't explain it better than he can, but you will get to both learn different techniques and humility in one go.

Win win.

Also: good luck. Just because something is extremely difficult, will swallow your entire waking existance, every red kopek you own and all your social bonds, doesn't mean it's impossible. You just can't think it's easy. That's a guaranteed way to fail, because the difference between "I wanna build THIS thing" and "I could only build THIS thing" is too great to allow you not to feel broken and failed and useless.

Take it from me. One step at a time.

PS: don't let designers make machines. They're idiots.

>You do know that apart from Space X's recent launches, basically all rocket engines used to push payloads to orbit have been refurbished engines from the 60's and 70's right. Because building them anew is way too expensive. For governments. That have billion doller budget overages.

Stop it.

Testing and a few prototypes are not the same as adoption. NASA have also launched probes with ion engines, doesnt mean they get pushed to orbit with them.

Also, suborbital flight IS NOT ORBIT. Only idiots and rich idiots think so. You haven't "been to space" if you just fall right down again.

Not to be rude, but please read more carefully. I know what I'm talking about.

I only say that I know what I'm talking about because I seriously evaluate your comeback and criticism. I've just seen it so many times I'm sick of being polite to people who claim to know better than me, but have obviously not read my writing.

And despite being a good businessman and a brilliant thinker, he's not godlike, or the best. He's been careful and precise and lucky.

I don't honestly see where this is coming from, I didn't claim that rocket tech has stood still, it's just a fact of the matter that 60's and 70's rocket technology is really fucking excellent and still works if treated carefully. Human error is the problem leading to the most accidents, most of the time.

These are Russian developed engines, my friend. How Space X launched their first probes as well. We're all in this together, we all wanna go to space.

It's just so much harder than we'd like. Sorry for that.

I hope you have a nice day. I'm not mad at you.

I think being self sufficient would be the priority, then later on trade with uncucked countries such as those in eastern Europe perhaps. Using green/renewable fuel sources would be important as well as efficient, especially wind power out at sea. The problem with becoming self sufficient is that you may end up like North Korea in that they trade with no one and have outdated technologies. Also the media would probably view the country as bad and isolated, but the leftists might like it for the renewable fuels, very mixed opinions.

I know, it's easier and cheaper but if we were going for something ideal I'd say let the people build their own house to fit their needs instead of copy-pasting.

I'd say if you'd want to spend more than just a vacation on such an island, make it look appealing, add some charm to it.

Of course, it costs time, money and energy more-so than just dumping a few pre-fab houses on it but in my opinion a worthwhile investment.

Still a city construction underneath of water would require a structurally sound area meaning it would need to be located on a plate and no volcanic activity.

Then you would need a material that will never rust or be damage by sea water, it would be required to work as a transparent material and solid.

After that problem is solved, you would need to construct towers. Theses towers would need to be interconnecting at the base in a similar fashion to a city in a grid pattern.

Instead of roads other forms of transport and ulitizites could be placed there such as rail and power along with water and so on..

Each Building would require either escape systems such as connections to other towers or pods. Theses pods would be required to act as a escape pod at the bottom of the ocean and at the sametime work as a submarine to allow the person escaping the ablity to drive to another tower or go to the surface.

Central Tower, A main tower would need to be constructed to act as a tether this tether would essentially be a large tower that would either be a compact tower that would only go so far up or would reach the surface and act as a space elevator in both cases but instead underwater allowing cargo to be moved from the bottem to the top easily and still act as a storage hub for both materials and workers.

really the tower would be what would be supporting everything else in the beginning

Exports, There is a type of super fuel that is found on both the Moon and the bottom of the ocean if this super fuel could be harvested and refined H3.

Rapture would have control of the energy market.

Fuck if I'm going to read everything in this thread so if it's already been mentioned, oh well.

The easiest way to get some kind of sea-based living (or whatever you want to call it) economy off the ground would be through tourism. So you'd need to make sure it's easily accessible via cruise ship and typical planes. Of course you'd also have to have some appeal about going there as well (although, an artificial sea country thing would be interesting in and of itself). All you'd really need is some kind of spectacle there or invoke a sense of intrigue or wonder. Don't underestimate the simple yet effective power of color and light for that such as pic related (or for /pol/'s sensibilities, the cathedral of light at one of the Nazi rallies).

Oh, that's pretty simple.

Build an airport so commercial jets can land, build plenty of large ports so cargo; private yachts/boats; and cruise ships can dock. That takes care of people getting to it in the first place.

Provide things to do while tourists are there such as fine/good dining, mall/shopping opportunities, casinos, excellent and unique scenery/aesthetic, excellent wildlife/marine life observation opportunities if applicable, and if you're wanting to be ambitious you can build an amusement park and/or water park. These would also provide things for locals to do and give them employment opportunities. You can also attempt to work with companies which already do those things and they may be willing to foot the bill for all of or a large part of building the specific activity (for example, Six Flags may be willing to pay for the construction of an amusement park and MGM resorts may be willing to pay to set up a casino).

I would suggest between Europe and North America. There would be a lower chance of having economic migrants and refugee issues. Depending on the location, you could also establish the country as a half-way stop for trade between continents where they might refuel and such and it would be easier to ensure regular imports and exports due to it being in a convenient location. It's also possible that you could get shipping companies to base themselves there and you might even be able to help facilitate order flows for cross-Atlantic securities trades which would attract financial companies (and the associated jobs and tax base).

It doesn't have to be a single-faceted economy. The best and most stable economies are diversified. So you can have a strong tourism industry, self-sustaining energy/utilities and to some extent agriculture industries, service industry, financial industry, maritime industry, and after thinking about it may even be plausible to have manufacturing. Not to mention the political benefits as well.

It's just that tourism would be the easiest one to set up first.

For one, no, not necessarily. Even if you were to just set up tourism, other industries could make use of the same facilities such and ports.

Second is that even trying to set up an independent, self-sustaining colony using an artificial 'island' structure is going to cost billions to do (consider that aircraft carriers cost multi-billions to make). So if you're already going to spend such an amount, why not spend more to make it truly magnificent and establish it unquestionably and undeniably as a legitimate country? Why not leave people awe-struck when they see it?

To me, it seems like it would be a wasted effort to try and create something like this and then self-impose arbitrary limits like merely surviving on an artificial 'island' because it has the potential to be a truly modern world wonder.

How about artificial island on some part of Mascarene Plateau?
To make the island you will need to do it fast because it's the open ocean and fucking greens will try to stop you because whales are fucking nearby.
Use soil form seabed or just get some rocks from Africa, concrete, some corrosion resistant steel bars to hold it for the early stages, some large wooden poles, etc
It would be expensive endeavor sure, just look at Palm Islands in Dubai.

or just get a cruise ship and few platforms for food if you are obsessed

Mauritius and Mascarene are the only potential claimants for the seabed but most probably not even they have the legal upper had there.
No earthquakes (soil liquidation is a danger if you just pore down your island... think of Port Royale in Jamaica) or small danger of ones (mostly from north east)
