4chan in its early days up until the 2010s was significantly left wing and was mostly a strange strand of Libertarianism desiring a free market, more civil rights, disinterest towards immigration and drug legalisation. This was because society on a whole seemed to favour a right wing moral design based on right wing victories in America and Europe.

As the Democrats rose to power, society shifted to the left. This 4chan became more right wing. /pol/, the contrarians to the contrarians, no longer became ostracized from 4chan but began to be seen as its leader.
