Guys, is it true that being nationalistic makes us literally Nazis? This reddit thread is making me wonder...
/pol/ bullshit aside: Nazis weren't Nazis because of their aesthetics. Nazis were Nazis because they used thugs to trample free speech and ran death camps (i know, i know).
Taking effective propaganda as a sign of incoming tyranny is putting the cart before the horse. Don't worry these worry warts will be the ones bending hardest and spreading widest for Trump.
Totally different. According to Lenin, a socialist ois a communist who prefer to use political tools to get in charge, in opposition with the communists who want an armed bloody revolution.
Somehow reminded me of this:
Does being a socialist make you a Nazi? the second key ingredient of Nazism was a string of socialism after all.
Does believing in evolution and genetics make you a Nazi? does reading nietzsche? All of that greatly influenced National Socialism, to the same degree as Nationalism.
No, of course it doesnt. Reddit is being retarded as usual.
Nationalism is a disease of a weak mind trying to compensate for being so by hiding behind a symbol (or a flag, in this case) to thus convince themselves they're in fact strong. Its fucking sad, to be honest.
That said, there's nothing wrong with Patriotism, and there *is* a difference between the two. Let's use an analogy to explain.
Two fans are watching their respective American football teams compete on television. Let's say its the New England Patriots vs. the Tennessee Titans.
The Pats fan is decked out in full Patriots regalia (painted face, replica jersey, the works) and LOVES his team. He's also quite convinced that his team CANNOT be beaten in play without either the other team flat-out cheating or by a long series of bad calls from the "corrupt, money-loving" referees. He will howl and scream obscenities when his team begins to lose.
The Titans fan, is also wearing his team's jersey and is watching the plays closely, nodding when he sees something he likes, shaking his head ruefully when he sees something he doesn't. The Titans fan ultimately wants his team to win, just like the Pats fan, but he's willing to allow that maybe his team is playing off today, or that the coaches were honestly stumped, or that luck wasn't on his side today. Shit DOES happen, but maybe next game (or next year), his team will win and he will be there to support them.
tl;dr? A Nationalist will not be able to admit that there is a problem with their country, because they HAVE TO BE the best. A Patriot will admit that while his country has problems, he will still support them because maybe it can change for the better.
Of course anon. All cultures are equal, and by supporting freedom you are denying the experience of those who live in religious fundamentalism or communist dictatorships.
Freedom is oppression, shitlord.
You're a fucking retard mate you know that right?
Yes Nationalism and Patriotism are two different things, but you know why they're different? Patriotism is social conditioning designed to support the actions of the state. Nationalism is identifying with your own nation. One is national identity, the other is supporting the state that claims to represent that nation.
You literally got them mixed up.
>That an Aussie trying to tell an American the difference between patriotism and nationalism isn't hilarious.
>That an Aussie knows what either of those terms mean in countries other than his own shit hole.
>That Aussies don't take orders from some old woman thousands of kilometers away and thus have any concept of "national identity."
>I know I'm wrong so I'll try to deflect: the post
Nationalism and Patriotism arent American invented. Nationalism was influenced by the American revolution but it first appeared in England, was ultimately coined by a Prussian and popularized by the French Revolution, while patriotism has been around since the god damn Elizabethan era.
Shut up, eat another burger and stop being a retard for five minutes.
That's a shitty analogy.
Nobody wants to be a Titans fan.
>Still shit-posting this hard.
Merriam-Webster Definition of "Patriotism"
>the love for or devotion to one's country
Merriam-Webster Definition of "Nationalism"
> loyalty and devotion to a nation; especially a sense of national consciousness exalting one nation above all others and placing primary emphasis on promotion of its culture and interests as opposed to those of other nations or supranational groups
>a nationalist movement or government
Actually it's the opposite. Nationalism is pretty natural and in this age it's actually harder for people like you and your cucked countrymen to be nationalists. It's pretty ill-minded to not praise your ancestors accomplishments.
> It's pretty ill-minded to not praise your ancestors accomplishments.
Because they're not MY accomplishments. I don't need to prop up my ancestors' actions in order to give importance or meaning to my own.
>Accuses another of deflecting an argument without giving context.
>Ignores context while deflecting argument.
Stay gold, Aussie.
>Being on /pol/
>Not a national socialist
What context? you literally went to the dictionary and copy pasted the definitions while calling me a shitposter.
You cannot properly understand nationalism or patriotism from reading the dictionary definitions.
>Thinks Nationalism/Patriotism is Nazism
Way to go Reddit, no wonder Ellen Pao wanted crash this site.
>omg guise it's propaganda
>crying about this
Are these people just that young or are they completely retarded?
