Why the fuk isnt the US a German speaking country?

Why did the German language mostly die out? Societal pressure resulting from the USA siding against Germany in both World Wars.

I grew up in a small German town in the midwest and have noticed the local language slowly die over the past few decades. Most restaurants and shops in town had German names in the 80's and 90's, but they slowly went away.

The German migrants were just migrants. In that era of time, it was England that had any type trade that was remotely a company or industry. Since they were pretty much funding everything significant in the new colonies, English became the dominant language.

It used to be very common for german-american families to teach their young German. Some still do, mostly up north though. My grandparents were the last generation in my family to learn it.

It was not about making German the official language, because there has never been any official language.

She was a Colombian Latina mutt, and in her day they wanted to be American so bad she would refuse to go outdoors when she didn't need to to avoid tanning and appear more "white." She also refused to teach my mother Spanish - until they went to visit family - and uses the language as little as possible. All she wanted was to be American, and she came here legally, married a Korean War veteran/engineer, and made an American life for herself with him.

95% of the time you hear about racial conflict it's blacks vs. some other race(whites, hispanics, koreans, etc).

The US legal immigrant vetting process is actually quite effective and it's kept most of the trash out.

East Asian, Indian, and Iranian immigrants are usually alright and have contributed a lot to the country(research, entrepreneurial, etc). Generally get along with whites.

Hispanics are basically today's Polish immigrants - they work menial jobs and no speak english but in a couple of generations they'll be pretty much like anyone else.

There are some good blacks but by and large they just waste carbon atoms and cause problems.
