I'm not defending Common Core, but it's useful to explain what it is.

What it isn't is this dumb-ass math kids are coming home with, where 5 x 3 may equal 20 because reasons. That's the HOW of teaching to meet Common Core standards, and that varies from school district to school district. My kid's textbooks are very similar to the ones I had almost 40 years ago. He hasn't had any of this fag math I see posted in CC threads whether here or on social media.

The WHAT is really simple: Common Core holds that all children should be held to a single national standard in reading, writing, and mathematics. This is in response to our "continued national decline" in OECD Pisa rankings. This is what politicians are referring to when they talk about "failing schools".

Anyone who's spent more than a day on /pol/ is well-acquainted with the causal relationship between IQ and social outcome, and the causal relationship between race and intelligence. So it's very easy to see what America's real "education" problem is. It's actually a demographic one. Once you exclude black and Mexican test results from the OECD Pisa rankings, the US constantly ranks among the world's top three performers in the categories they assess. And it's been that way since the OECD began publishing its Pisa reports.

So in ten years we'll do this all again. We'll have more low-IQ Mexicans (the reason America's national average IQ dipped below 100 for the first time in the history of IQ assessment, according to the 2010 Census), about the same number of low-IQ blacks, and fewer whites, so we'll have worse Pisa results. And they'll blame the system again. And we'll "innovate" and "change" and whatever else we have to do to ignore the fact that Mexican immigrants (Mexicans themselves on average do have a much higher IQ than the low-IQ migrants who travel north) and blacks are not as smart as whites and East Asians.

It's ridiculous to even consider wasting money on universal free college education when the K-12 system is in desperate need of reform. Common Core is just a band-aid that will do nothing to stop the acceleration of brain drain in our country. Obsessive emphasis on "equality" is destroying the overall quality of education, and no one wants to be a teacher anymore. We're losing teachers and we're producing students that are less and less capable in a world that is only getting more and more complex.

The answer is not in privatizing schools. We need to work with what we have, recruiting quality teachers and making sure that high-achieving students are being properly served by the system. As it stands, schools' limited resources are tied up catering to the lowest denominator, at the expense of everyone else - this needs to change. And we need to reduce bloat in the curriculum and completely rewrite outdated science and technology curriculum.

But "public education reform" doesn't get votes like "universal college" does, so we're never going to hear about it as part of a platform.

we might have 10 billion sluts, but our academics are pretty decent. (except engineering, CS, physics and math, our chem program isn't bad and bio is one of the best in the country iirc)
