Cheaper transportation of goods both makes our industries more efficient (and thus more competetive on an international level) and reduces the price of shipped goods. For those of us in land locked cities it will be absolutely god like when driverless cars really kick in and start affecting the economy.

Danielle Smith fucked up because she had a bunch of her MLAs defect to the PCs after a couple failed by-elections including a close friend of hers. There was pressure on her to force a merger between her party and the PCs in order to have a united front against the lower oil prices and deficits (including Preston Manning who was a big proponent of the idea).

Smith wasn't able to coax the rest of the Wildrose party into participating in the merger idea so herself and a bunch of other MLAs joined the PCs on their own. Naturally a lot of Wildrosers thought this was a betrayal and a lot of PCs were skeptical of the new Wildrosers joining the party. As a result Smith didn't even win her primary to become the candidate for the PCs at the next election thus pushing her out of politics completely.

Wildroses elected Brian Jean, former MP, to become party leader. He's generally pretty good but completely fucked up the debate. He sounded like a broken record responding to nearly every question with the same 'we won't raise taxes like the PCs will' talking point. By contrast Notley did great at the debate. Ultimately this all resulted in an NDP victory as they were seen as the only viable alternative to the PCs by a lot of voters.

I suspect Brian will have learned by the next election to be a better debater, he certainly has the potential, his victory/concession speech on election night was great for example.
