I have been far left for the longest (think leftist libertarian all the way to anarcist when I was a dumbass teen) but lately I have been drifting closer to the center on most issues lately.

I think it is just that the crazy of both parts has become more vocal and thanks to everyone using the internet, even normals that don't really give a shit about politics are exposed to it. They don't really think about it but to them it sounds as valid as anything else, and it has all these likes and retweets, so that means it right to them.
It happens on both sides.

I think that after several years of being far right I've come to the conclusion that the farther right I go, the more similar to totalitarian views I hold. This goes the same for the left. For every bit of progress the left makes, a sort of social Newton's Third Law kicks in and the right also kicks their game up a notch.

As a result I stopped being so right or so left and started approaching a more centrist point of view and it seems to have helped me much more than simply "picking a side because it's what said side says to do."

One party or side mandated view can't be applied to everything.
