TX68 happening. This asteroid is within the uncertainty of its orbit to hit the earth in March and its huge. It's 50 meters across. One that was 20 meters hit Russia in 1908 and it was like a large bomb going off.

The air blast will arrive approximately 3.03 seconds after impact.
Peak Overpressure: 4.17e+06 Pa = 41.7 bars = 591 psi
Max wind velocity: 1620 m/s = 3630 mph
Sound Intensity: 132 dB (Dangerously Loud)
Damage Description:

Multistory wall-bearing buildings will collapse.

Wood frame buildings will almost completely collapse.

Multistory steel-framed office-type buildings will suffer extreme frame distortion, incipient collapse.

Highway truss bridges will collapse.

Highway girder bridges will collapse.

Glass windows will shatter.

Cars and trucks will be largely displaced and grossly distorted and will require rebuilding before use.

Up to 90 percent of trees blown down; remainder stripped of branches and leaves.

It is fucking scary how little is actually being done to safemark the Earth from asteroids.
Like, seriously so fucking little.
We have a duty to the future of this planet to ensure it even survives.

Even full-on supervolcano eruptions won't kill off everything, most of them have calmed down and weakened considerably.
Yellowstone will, at best, wipe out most of middle America only and make the rest of the land hard to live on and depend on constant exports for a period since a stupid number of farms will be wiped out.
It will cause an extended winter.
Nothing we haven't already been through several times in our species lifetime.

An ice age, we have survived it before when we were, relatively speaking, fucking retard monkeys.
We are more than capable of surviving one now.
2-3 billion people will still likely die though.
Mostly those at the north and south regions, the middle equator regions will be fine.

A full-on crazy ass super virus will not wipe us all out. Biology isn't that infectious.

Nuclear war will not wipe out everything either. Nukes are fucking "weak", they are not like your Hollywood nukes. We barely have enough to blanket developed world CITIES and important areas, never mind villages, developing and underdeveloped nations.
Nuclear fallout is fucking trivial to survive. Most damaging shit is gone entirely by 5 weeks, and at the worst with shit nukes, 5 months.
Nuclear reactors failing is what is dangerous, not nukes. Nukes are as clean as a hospital in comparison.

Asteroids (or aliens or catastrophic failure of the sun) are the only things capable of wiping us out entirely.
We never even spotted the russian meteor that exploded a couple years back.
We can barely spot things around that size but they can still do serious damage if they hit the right area.

Getting a full on asteroid prevention program started as soon as fucking possible should be focus number 1 for the entire human race as a species.

There's plenty of safeguards from asteroids.

The most commonly cited method is to launch an object that's big enough to pull it out of its original trajectory.

Not collide, but just glide past it momentarily so as to change its orbit.

Boson Bombs.

the big brother of Nukes

More dangerously, we may fabricate weapons which would take away mass from our massive-bodies (living and non-living both) and destroy everything without (atomic) explosion! Such a weapon would be qualitatively higher in the capacity to destroy ourselves than today’s atomic bomb. It would be the MOST dangerous weapon! Humanity is not wise enough today to handle such a weapon.

Alright so 2/3 of the Earth is covered in water. So that's a 1 in 3 shot that it hits land.
That 1/3 is made up of 57 268 900 square miles. Within that area, only 3 distinct areas can be classified as civilized.
Europe: 3.931 million mi2
USA: 3.806 million mi2
Russia: 6.602 million mi2
Roughly, this rounds out to about 15 million square miles.

So, there's a 74% chance that if it hits land, it will destroy nothing of value.

Yeah but gravity tractors need to be done quite a long time before an impact.
If we spotted a dangerous rock incoming too late, gravity tractors can't really be used.

>>60991332
We could create some dangerous shit in the future.

Just imagine a bomb that converted all mass in a region to energy. Instantly everything would fly away at light speed in every direction, causing such a fucking huge explosion.
The more we learn about Higgs, it could possibly be done.
But equally, it could also be used against asteroids and make it fire in some other direction.
Oh god, imagine turning an asteroid in to a massive fucking group of waves like that.
It would be like a massive death ray, a directed shitastrophe of an explosion if all that EM hit a surface.

>>60991436
Thing is, the only thing holding is back is lack of cooperation and care.
We could mine a fucking mountain and send its mass to space, but too many whiny cunts and lack of funding is the only thing stopping it.

We could be walking on Mars right now, just lack of funding prevents it.

This is why all space agencies should get in to the energy sector so they can convert water to fuel cheaply and not need to care about those massive prices.
Go one better and make your launch pads in Africa at the deserts, free solar power to convert water to fuel.
Good, re-usable rocket will launch shit up regularly from a space port.
Mini military to prevent sandnigs from shitting things up.
Congratulations, you are now in space.

The uncertainty is enough to include the possibility of Earth being hit. There's also the possibility of smaller debris from the same body hitting Earth.

However remember that the area of uncertainty is massive compared to Earth; even though it is likely to pass within this specific zone, only a handful of possible trajectories actually cause it to pass close enough to bend towards the planet for a strike.

So it's possible but still not as likely as it passing by harmlessly.

Of note; the Russian impact mentioned here was itself the result of a small chunk of a much larger body passing within 1AU or so of the planet previously.

The Higgs gives mass.

Preventing Higgs from doing its job would lead to mass becoming waves.

How it would be done is up for debate, if it is even possible.
Given what we know about the universe, whatever controls the acceleration of the universe could possibly be used to interrupt higgs by shooting it out and preventing it from interacting with particles that it normally should do, making it a zero mass particle.

The asteroid has a poorly determined orbit and often makes close approaches to Earth, and should make one such approach sometime between March 3 and March 8, 2016. While the nominal (best fit) orbit suggests that it will pass 1.3 LD from the Earth, it may pass as close as 0.061 LD (23,600 km) to Earth or 0.032 LD (12,200 km) to the Moon—although not using the same orbit. It may also pass as far away as 0.1 AU (15,000,000 km; 9,300,000 mi) in 2016.[1] But there is no risk of an Earth impact in 2016.[2]

That's why you should buy a bitching ass boat and live in the water.
Your home can be anywhere now.

Tsunami comes, aHA, fuck you tsunami Dan, this boat is also a submarine.
Am submergan.

Man, I would love to buy a boat though.
I'd rather design and build one than buy one.
Obviously I would research best materials and shit.
I like designing compact, efficient space saving designs for all sorts of stuff, including homes and room designs. (architecture would have been my 2nd route in life if the computer shit never worked out)

Going to build myself a storage island in my room to store all the shit I like doing, each will have a large storage space for bins, containers, some drawers and shit.
Electronics, art, gaming, reading, my collection of dragon dildos, among other things.
Will be able to move it around as I need access to certain things, but mostly it will just be sat up against a corner. Good for some exercise and makes much better use, plus it will look nice as fuck yo.
It will basically be 3 separate things, a set of drawers, a 3-tier wide cabinet, all stuck on a base with wheels. (the cabinet doesn't open up like that though, I just drew it like that to show all 3 storage sides)
Nothing to do with anything. I drew a face in the hanging plant pots.

I was in Orlando in 2003-4, when a big one came through. Wind was about 100 mph and most trees were uprooted. Lots of roofs damaged, some even collapsed because of trees. We had no power for about a week. Had to sleep in middle of the day because it was so hot and humid, my shirts were completely drenched in sweat just sitting around. Only good thing was taking a cold shower in the evening (at least the water worked). On the coast, some places got flooded, but nothing as bad as New Orleans.
