Playing video games is widely recognized to have a variety of positive psychological and physical benefits, key amongs these is stress relief. Video games are an outlet for agression, stress, and bad feeling.
We propose the the state of the conversation around gaming has become, amongst other things, extremely contentious, and, in many cases, for many people, personally stressful. This is obviously not the reason most of us choose to video game, or engage in the culture of gaming.
What we propose is a new festival to celebrate the wide varieties of expression within the culture of gaming. This will be handled in two parts.
First, a net-symposium, where willing industry, ideological, academic and international perspectives on gaming will be shared and engaged. one of the goals of the "Net Symposium" is to put American Feminism (Described explicitly as such) next to such topics as "Gaming in Russia", "Gaming in Destabilized Countries" or the real coup, "Conservative Polish Gaming Developers." Then we just let CD ProjektRed go all Varg on everything. We'll just let each presenter cultivate a few essays and some info-graphics and stuff.

Secondly, the first Annual #GameEngage game tournament, where critical stars like John Bain and Anita Sarkeesian will face off in a brew ha ha of you know who ha ha.

Proposed events:
Super Smash Bros Melee, or Project Melee
Starcraft
League of Legends or Defense of the Ancients 2, to be determined at a later time
Team Fortress 2 or Counterstrike, to be determined at a later time
The DS multiplayer version of PAC-Man
Dance Dance Revolution or an equivalent
Guitar Hero or an equivalent

Let's not let our industry and culture get fractured by politics, let's celebrate games the way they were meant to be, by resolving our differences by pretending to shoot each other.

Jack Thompson was always reasonable, his claims were entirely legitimate and his fears were well founded, as events since his defeat have shown.

Think about what he was arguing for. Actually obeying the ESRB. Standards in marketing and sales. Games journalism at the time was not a well developed monster, but much of his beef was also with them advertising mature games to kids. The irony is, though he was doing it for different reasons, Thompson was at war with the same beast that we're not fighting.

Marketingfag here. There is a bit of disinformation here on how this works. Most of this is your standard tracking and analytics. Yes a website can gather alot about you just from visiting if you are not careful (a whole nother subject). But this is usually when you sign up for an account thinking you are pseudo anonymous but cookie data, IP, cache, etc can all be triangulated.

First though, losing an advertiser in an ad exchange doesn't just sweep another one right in. As exchanges like AdSense/doubleclick work on a bid. The advertiser bids on a CPC (per click) or CPM (per impression) basis. Due to efficient market theory they usually work out to be around the same. But if you are advertising just for brand impact you would usually bid per impression while if you are direct response marketing you bid per click. Due to the aforementioned tracking abilities, most advertisers tend to bid per click.

Now the adnetwork automates the placement process based on your ad budget and you targeting variables. Often it doesn't even matter where they are placed as the adnetwork can personally tailor ads based on your browsing habits.

But an advertiser may choose to target a certain website through the adnetwork. So they make a higher bid to be placed directly on a specific website. Say Intel with gamasutra. Intel wants decision makers and influencers using intel so that brand recognition filters through their network. If a developer uses intel they will make recommendations to the Joe consumer. Etc. So intel can bid on gamasutra without even their knowledge.

The advertiser also has the ability to block a certain website in the ad network. Say if you were advertising a dating website but found through the adnetwork's targeting they were placing the ads on a marriage support website. That's a waste of your adspend so you would take action and block those websites. So every adnetwork has an exclusion process in place for advertisers.

Now from the advertisers perspective you want as many people bidding directly as possible. (If not just paying for an exclusive partnership, but nobody is doing that now). So from a adnetwork perspective, this is where niche websites play a huge factor. I checked from a couple different machines/IP and each one had Gawker advertising the Microsoft surface. While Kotaku had various games being advertised. If I had to guess, Microsoft is doing a CPM bid while the games were doing a CPC bid, and possibly targeting Kotaku specifically.

This is huge for Gawker media, has the lower trafficked niche sites could actually be more profitable than the high trafficked Gawker.com.

Every advertiser that pulls out lowers the bid. Especially on the niche websites where advertisers are directly targeting. It doesn't just "sweep another one in", it means the per bid cost is lower for the next one and so on.

Every click is then tracked, where the advertiser looks at how many conversions they get (sales, opt ins, etc). A site that doesn't get high conversions is one they are going to want to drop. This is why those /biz/ faggots making phony websites only get .5 cents per click. Nobody wants that traffic.

Every advertiser that pulls out does matter. It is a war of attrition. But the niche websites will probably hurt revenue more than gawker.com. I can't say for sure without looking behind the scenes.

Also, if you click on. a gawker media ad, go the website, and then send a contact form, they will track your IP. This is called the sales funnel. Anybody doing CPC marketing does this, and it totally fucks up their sales funnel on a certain channel. Yes it will give Gawker revenue, but the few hundred, maybe thousand, clicks that might do this from GG are a drop in the bucket to gawker. But to the marketing guy bidding per click will totally freak him the fuck out that instead of buying they are filling out contact forms telling him they are boycotting. That just isn't efficient adspend. And I would exclude that site in my admin panel, if for no other reason than it is fucking up my tracking. Direct response marketers live by conversions. It's as pure math as calculus or programming. Feels play absolutely no part in my decision making.

Are you kidding me? I played that game for 30 minutes last night to get the "good ending" and in that time, Pagan Min impressed himself upon more than most fucking people I know. The writing is fucking flawless. I went back and played more, and it's essentially Far Cry 3 but prettier, so I won't make a judgement on the actual gameplay or sandbox. But whatever, compared to the shit show that was Unity, it's just bit buggy and poorly optimized, but Far Cry is consistently the best franchise Ubisoft puts out.

7/10 based on initial impressions, would pirate.

You don't even get to gameplay before you get the "good" ending. The game ends and you have to start over, as no save points occur before you beat the game with that ending. Here's another tip. Adwords is fucking expensive for insurance. I don't known if state farm is still advertising on gawker. But if you google "insurance quote" and see an adword for state farm (a yellow flag that says "ad"), clicking that will cost like $70 for one click. Don't be a retard clicking behind the same IP/machine. But that too is tracked. Imagine 1000 people googling insurance quotes in one day, clicking state farm, and then emailing why you won't be signing up with them. bind. A fucking loss of 70k. You better believe at that high CPC they are tracking for conversions. They probably have a full staff of 50 specialists doing it.

I only saw the Microsoft surface today. Google various terms for tablets, the more generic, the higher CPC. Click that and send an email. Unfortunately most of these larger brands don't have contact forms, so it is harder for them to tie two and two together. But they will see the drop in Conversion ratio.

The smaller brands advertising on their niche sites are more likely to have contact forms. Tomorrow is what might be the best issue of the series (possibly. There are a few VERY strong contenders for that title). It's Morrison and Quitely, doing the Charlton comics characters (Blue Beetle, Captain Atom, The Question...) as a pastiche of the Watchmen characters. Apparently one page is going to have 1000+ panels on it.

The first game is one of the best FPS on the PC, except for those Trigun levels, those were meh.

Second game had a lot going for it, but I found it incredibly dull and I had to put the game down several times before I can finish it.
