Most of these statistics about majority being christian in Poland are taken from baptism ceremony records. Old people baptized their kids who now are adults because they believed, adults are now baptizing their kids just to spare them problems with future weddings just in case they find catholic partner/will want to take church wedding for better memories/whatever, now my generation is 20+yo and I can assure you baptism rates will fall like MH-17 for next few generations.
For example I got baptized (in orthodox church btw because catholic priest didn't want to do it for some silly reasons, then mother tried to force me into catholicism for years and didn't even tell me I was orthodox formally) just to spare me problems with possible future weddings. I can tell you right now why this is happening. British Intelligence during WW2 essentially manufactured the resistance against the NSDAP in every country it occupied, otherwise the resistances in these countries would have been non existent (France, and Czechoslovakia are great examples of this), however Poland was the first country the British propped up anti NSDAP resistance in.

The British supported and funded the militarisation of the entire civilian population, with cooperation from the Polish army and government. Their policy was now no peace with Hitler but only war, which is why annexing the corridor went so wrong for the Germans, and why the Polish resistance was the strongest in WW2.

During this infiltration the British relied on using many disaffected Jewish people to help spread the resistance, and keep the resistance alive by any brutal means necessary.

Many, Many Polish people remember this and kept this hatred from this serious causation and infiltration of their national consciousness, just as a pawn against Germany.

I'm a big fan of nationalism, the NatSoc version of it seemed to do well from a cultural perspective.
