Do you guys have bug out bags?
Which bag do you use and what doe it contain?
>>
I bought a tacticool backpack from the local milsurp store but haven't filled it with this sort of shit yet. Just a flashlight and knife and a few medical supplies. Post moar pics if you've got em
>>
Is it too late to get started on this? Also, I'm poor, so should I just fill it with spam cans and water bottles and a machete?

Pic is my bag.

Contains essential supplies, which I do not really feel like emptying right now. I know change of clothes, batteries, small radio, MRE's to last for a couple weeks. (More MRE's in my pantry.) Compass, a couple road maps that show elevation, a couple knives...one large k-bar type, and a smaller pocket type. Cooking gear, matches, lighters, bag of pot, some pain meds along with my first aid kit. 30ft. of rope.

Other stuff as well, I am ready to bug out into the swamp. Louisianabro here

Here is my old car kit if anyone cares
>>
>>35978965
Reasoning:
This winter kit was built in response to the people in Buffalo, who had to endure 24hrs
stuck on a major interstate after a quick snowstorm & car accidents overwhelmed the city.
The people removing the snow were forced to plow, have tow trucks move crashed cars, plow, tow, etc.
Being from Pittsburgh we get similar snow to Boston, with the exception that they would get more of a
lake effect than us.

Goal: 24hrs stuck on a major interstate or road due to snow. Expecting sub-freezing temperatures & a
really slow emergency response. Planning for just me, but will have enough food & water & warmth for two peple.

I have most of these things, some are on order, & small amount I have yet to purchase.
They are stored mostly in 2 bookbags in my trunk.

I was about to buy this handcrank flashlight at K-Mart. I start cranking in the store and it broke in like 5 seconds. I put it back on the shelf and checked others. Most were broke.

Never buy a plastic generator handle and expect it to work when you need it!
>>
>>35980082
Dude, even if the world never collapses in any measurable way, having first aid knowledge, gear, firearms, and a bug out bag for natural disasters is important. Hell, it's important even if you're just camping away from civilization. Learn while you still can, it may save your life someday.

It absolutely does not.

I have a musette bag with some clothes, a flashlight, some food, some dog food (for my dog obviously), a book, a notepad, and extra ammunition for my Enfield. I will also grab my camera bag when I have to bug out.

>But what about military equipment? Isn't that going a little too far?

There is one reason why mil-spec exists. It lasts.
>>
>>35981192

You're putting the cart before the horse there, cowboy.

First off, how do you define military equipment? Second off, what makes you think that military equipment should only be for the military. It was payed for with civilian tax dollars and anyone who can put the surplus to use is doing the American economy a favor. Second off, not everything military is actually "too good" for civilians... 95% of the time it's made by the lowest bidder and there are superior version of kit to be had easily in the fully legal civilian sector.

Hell, MREs are a military item and thinking that they should for some reason be inappropriate for civilian use is totally rediculous. Hell, half the time they don't even taste like shit anymore.

Depends what you're facing. Guns might be useful to kill anyone you need to before you get to your safe place, or if someone has something you need.

I think it depends where in the world you are. Where I live almost no-one has guns despite them being legal, but it depends on culture. You'll find a lot of guns/ammo in USA bug-out bags because American culture heavily emphasis hyper-masculinity and a lot of men spend huge portions of their time, money and energy trying to appear more manly to others. Whereas in other areas of the world it's different and they emphasis other aspects or whatever.

Not saying that element is bad, just saying culture, region, climate etc dictates what is in your bag and what sort of weaponry/defense you'd need.

I agree, but this largely depends on the guns. My kit is very practical, my G29 and 3 mags + 80 rounds is a lot of firepower for the size, volume and weight. My .22 is what i can eat with as long as it functions and as long as i have ammo, so i can live off the grid half of forever with it.

Now, a 20" camo print AR and a dozen mags with LBE and "navy seal special" service pistol with it's own mags and ammo... i think that's more what you mean.

Don't waste your time with MREs. Full of sodium and sugar, with no fiber at all so you get constipated. Soldiers would call them "Meals Requiring Enemas" among other things. Plus look at all the garbage you have to either hide somewhere or carry with you.

I think people get MREs just because they like the idea of them being used in the military, but remember this is the military that sends it's soldiers to war without bulletproof vests, and won't foot the bill when they get badly injured. They aren't deeply concerned about the health of their soldiers.

You should supplant MREs with foraged food. There's probably no fiber because that would add extra weight and volume to the MRE. You'll have to find fiber yourself

Most people here couldn't use a compass properly. It took me 10 minutes to explain to my friend that the compass always points north and the NSEW letters on the outside are for when you allign the needle with north. Meaning you turn the whole thing. A week later he said he finally gets it.
>>
>>35983073
this 100%. Make your own mres with chicken and tuna soft packs, ramen, breakfst/energy bars, and powdered drinks.

Mres will seriously pound your colon. They are terrible.
>>
>>35983367
I put some radioactive welding rods in the bug out bag so that I can test the geiger counter to see if it's working properly, and possibly weld things too.

>>
>>35983298

it's the outer packaging that makes them heavy and impractical, all you do is take the highest-calorie contents out of 2 MREs and you stuff them into one opened MRE sack. 3 MRE sacks now contain 6 meals, which along with proper foraging can sustain you for a week even when you're expending a lot of calories. More MRE food than this though is really impractical. And you're right about the fiber but you can actually bring along instant beverage powders specifically formulated with fiber and they weigh next to nothing. Very useful when having shit problems in the great outdoors.

All you'll need is a little sticker that shows this.

In a disaster of any significant magnitude, expect the police to search everyone for "contraband", ie anything they want or need at that particular moment.

When tshtf, they'll just walk up to your little Bear Grylls survival shelter and help themselves to your stuff, as well as any females in the area.

Or will all LEO's be KOS to you? Is that what you think you'll do?

my method is, this thing clicks about this many times per minute with this rod at this distance, and I know that it was factory calibrated when I made that measurement.

so I can simply repeat the test to determine if the geiger counter is falling out of calibration. simple.

The point of the geiger counter is to give you a ballpark reading anyway. I'm not using it for nuclear physics purposes. I'm using it to find out if there are large concentrations of radioactive elements nearby.

General feedback from an emergency preparedness instructor,

1. Considering that the people with the disposable income necessary to buy military surplus bags and fill them with weapons are highly unlikely to experience actual anarchy (or, likely anything more than a temporary evacuation and/or significant loss of property) it would make more sense to devote one's time and effort to acquiring, organizing, and protecting paperwork such as titles and insurance.

2. Man is more (and necessarily) social than edgy individualist, innawoods aspies like to believe and even obviously vital shit like viable sources of water for more than a few days (1 gallon per person per day) requires communal logistics and coordination, and therefore necessitates using city, state, or federal evacuation areas. (Areas, that will not allow knives and guns).

3. In preparing to embrace a revolting state of nature many of you tard-babies are perpetuating anarchy and social fragmentation. It may be the case that you believe such a state is desirable or that you'll fair comparatively better. Let me assure you that you would be better off joining a church or interest group than trusting in your trigger finger.

why do none of you retards have any multi-vitamin capsules in your packs?

hypothetically, if you can't find a source of fats and proteins, you can survive off of sugar and multivitamins for calories and nutrients and plant roughage for bowel control and to prevent chronic hunger pains for up to a month (assuming you're a healthy male with a standard or slightly above average BMI).

Yes.

Sleeping bag, tent, change of clothes (+ extra socks & underwear), shoes, wet weather gear, food & water for 4 days, coffee and tea, radio, LED headlamp, binoculars, solar battery charger + rechargables, solar USB charger for phone (phone has GPS etc)

No combat stuff as we don't have a gun problem in NZ, and people help each other out when SHTF instead of chimping out like they do in the US.

You want to be as LOW profile as possible in a survival situation. Combat knives, Baton's and the like. An arming sword is probably the biggest melee weapon you would want to carry on your person in that situation. Unless of course you're looking for a fight, and if you are, then you are not thinking of your survival very much.

You can also use it as emergency kindling or a sponge etc.

Fair enough, good points

I just picked the ACOG cuz I prefer low-range variable scopes like 1-6 power.

Plus unless it's hand forged it will dull to shit even clearing light brush. And a real Katana will rust to shit very quickly unless it properly cared for. The same goes for pretty much any sword. That's why swords were reserved for nobility who could afford to maintain such things while the peasants had bows and arrows, and very long sticks with sharp metal bits stuck on the end if they were lucky.

I got a small bow, a quiver, a machete, survival knife pocket knife. Shits that doesn't make a lot of noise. Trust me you want to go unnoticed more than you want fire power in a lot of survival situations.

The dollar bin flashlight at Kmart is NOT the one you want. This should be fairly obvious,.

No.

Because there is no where in the UK you can 'bug out' to.

You should have some emergency supplies in your home though.

Stupid question, what's a FAK?

Also, which shop in Germany sells MREs?

Now I feel really dumb. Thanks.

Is there a general strategy on BOBs? For instance, do you have a different setup for if you're escaping in a vehicle as compared to SHTF in a serious and sudden way that you can only carry a small amount?
>>
>>36002515

The best thing is to have a BOB in-case you need to leave immediately and can't take the car, as well as keeping extra supplies in your car in case you do take the car.

Can someone tell me what scenarios bug out bags are for?

Anything that makes you desert your home, be it a natural disaster or the total breakdown of society.
>>
Do people generally prefer revolvers or 9mm pistols?
>>
>>36002515
Yes.

I would advise something similar to this.

985 here

If I see you innawoods with that digishit I will make fun of you.
>>
>>36002660
Alright the thing is, is I get that they can be used for a natural disaster, and deserting home, but how can it help when shit completely hits the fan? What's the plan when all of your food/water is gone?
>>
>>36003036

A good BOB should carry tools that can be used for hunting, as well as water purification tablets or water filters.

Of course it is important to actually aquire survival skills, a BOB can only help you so much.
>>
>>36003036

The LifeStraw can provide months of clean (or at least survivable) water.

Incidentally, Mormons actually have keeping a full year's supply of food as a routine practice.

Should I use a backpack or a duffle bag?

I feel like I fit more in the duffle bag and I don't sacrifice much in maneuverability.
>>
>>35979911
Dont trust these other fags, it is a radio. The cross symbolizes that its made in sweden, a very popular and reliable brand of radio.
>>
>>36004853

Consider carrying a backpack 12 hours a day for days. Now consider doing the same with a duffel bag.
>>
>>36005652

I think the weight ratio for backpacking is usually considered something like 25% of your body weight or less. Soldiers often carry more but then they do a lot of things they're told to do that aren't necessarily terribly smart.
