Have you ever experienced political correctness at work, or forced

I owned an autobody shop a couple of years ago, had to install ramps going into the worker's entrance to the garage. I'd never hire someone in a wheelchair to do automotive work, so why I needed a ramp was beyond me. Had to, though, or else was facing a 5,000$ fine.

Got in trouble with HR once for ending a mass e-mail with 'Cheers', was told it might be offensive to other cultures. What a load of shit.

I work in a team of chemists at my university. I'm the only one with a computational chemistry background so I handle all of the modeling and programs and interfaces we use.

We received a female peer about six months ago, also in comp.chem. I'm very good at my job, so I didn't think I'd be easily replaceable, but I was (sort of). I was asked to step down from programming and allow her to do everything related to that. I still stayed on for my other duties as a chemist.

She wanted to do things her way and her way alone, and we were forced to comply. Instead of using software I developed a year earlier which was still relevant (and fast), she decided to start from scratch and make her own. I was put on to advise in case she needed help integrating into the job.

I'll sum it up in bullet points because it's a mess:

This was a case of inviting people with zero skill in an attempt to be more inclusive, and I wish it didn't happen.

What's worse is that my job was primarily to create effective modeling tools for use. My job was mostly programming and tinkering with existing programs to ensure things are accurate, I didn't spend much time in the lab.

Being told to step down on a temporary basis and effectively leave my safe zone wasn't good. It was like a month of getting almost zero work done and instead let this relative nobody do my job (poorly).

Our research wasn't too indepth or difficult, we were a relatively new team at that point. A BSc helping us isn't really concerning, but I like to think my specific duties required an MSc and masterclass command of computer science to do effectively.

If you throw the cards in the air haphazardly, and check to see if they land in sorted order, it would be analogous to an O(n!) sorting algorithm. I wouldn't have said shit but that loud ass sheboon angered me, so I argued against him and said "Why would you withhold pay for employees when the pay is determined by the college? You're punishing them for college policy. If anything, you were the one responsible, not them."

I'll tell my story.

I worked at a Dollar General for about a year, and I became "friends" with some of the elementary kids who would come in after school to buy candy, since their school was just a short walk away and this is a small, safe (mostly white) town. I was the youngest employee at twenty three so the children were more likely to ask me questions or come to my register. I never knew any of their names so I just started labeling them random things:

White girls: Jenny
Mexican boys: Juanito
Mexican girls: Juanita

Nobody was offended by it, not that I knew, except one person: one of my assistant managers. She was this squat, ugly Mexican single mother who had a reputation for leaving her kid at home and doing coke with her bf, an all around irritable and shitty person to be around. Of course since I'm white and giving the Mexican kids "flavored" names according to their ethnicity, she's gotta bitch. Called me "rayciss" and all that, but I just laughed her off, so she went and told the manager, a 45 year old milf who to this day I'm convinced wanted my dick.

She sat me down and lectured me about it, and asked, "What's behind these names you give?" I told her it was just endearment and a joke; no malice was behind it (now there was malice in the equation, just not of my own volition). In the end I got let off, but it left me completely disgusted by how people are ruled by their emotions and my hatred for single mothers grew even more.

My old store manager was a raging feminist. Every manager, secretary and person in HR was a female.
They hired a female to work in shipping once. She was pretty laid back and a hard worker. When the store manager saw how hard she was working, she told her to "let the guys do the hard stuff".
