It's pretty interesting.

It dates back to pre-famine times when Ireland was a mainly Catholic nation.
There were some barbarians on the west coast of Ireland but tbey mainly stayed to themselves. They were the tribes of old Celts and ex Vikings.

The country was ruled by the Popes lae from the Vatican but generally the people were uneductaed and not much was happening.

The English wanted Ireland around 1700 and sent over swarms of armies to fight the tribes and were beaten back. They changed their approach and instead started to build infrastructure with roads and buildings. All the buildings in Ireland <1920 were English built.

In 1749 England sent over a huge force lead by William of Orange. They fought for 5 days and William took a blow to the arm and fled the battlefield. In his absence the English overcame the smaller Irish army and got enough time to retreat. Despite this they proclaimed a victory and used it as propaganda to force the celebration of the 12th of July.
They went a step further and started deciding law. They made it an offence to speak Irish, and go to Catholic mass and be in city limits if you were Catholic etc. They evicted Catholics from their houses as new land Lords were put in place - basically they just devided up land tbey didn't own. The Irish people starved and were so hungry they forgot the Irish language over time.
Lots left for America. England invited English over to live in the empty houses and take the land over.

Around 1899 the Irish Protestant Wolf Tone decided against this unfair ruling and set up what would become the modern day IRA.
They operated from the post office in Dublin and carried out tactical strikes again the English armies and were generally successful.
In 1916 they had their biggest hit when the English tried to push back hard and had a big battle.

It went quiet after that until 1950 when Jerry Adam was born. He was bred for political leadership and was sent to Cuba when he was 16 and carried guns for Castro and in return was gifted a ship full of guns and explosives. They sailed the ship back to Ireland and used this to launch gorilla warfare on the English army. This continued for 30 years until 1993 when Bill Clinton stepped in and asked for the huns back leading to the peace process.
Since then, with no guns, the Protestant party have regained strength and it is getting time again for the next stage where the Irish fight back.
