You're thinking about it the wrong way.
They don't give a fuck about serving in the military.
But they *do* want to destroy traditional western, civilized values.They want to see those values and norms crumble.
The military has always been the last bastion that was unwilling to put up with all their bullshit. When you're dealing with war, with life and death, with armies and tanks and warships and nukes, you don't have the luxury of buying into all that bullshit. Traditionally, the military is where the rubber meets the road and society quietly acknowledges "Yeah, we know this is all bullshit, so we're not going to force it where it really matters."
They know that. They know that the military represents the true rejection of their warped worldview. So, for them, joining the military is the last step at crumbling traditional, western worldviews and culture. They know that if they can make inroads in something as entrenched and symbolic as the military, then everything else will just fall into place.
