So they actually had to get estimates for over 100 countries on their studies by using the surrounding countries, this is highly inadequate when one considers the effect the economy of a given country could have on the I.Q. level of the people in that country. The authors did also use comparable nations but I'd figure that with only 81 available nations having studies that not all nations had comparable nations with studies already done on them. A countries GDP, while it also makes sense that it affects the I.Q. level of people in said country - as they say and I agree - doesn't necessarily take into account how corrupt the country is either. Most of that wealth, profit, capital, etc. could just be going to the wealthy corrupt politicians at the top and so averaging I.Q. scores based on this as opposed to getting an actual study done on the country and then adjusting the average in relation to the economic state of the country which would be a more accurate thing to do. The wiki continues, and I quote: "To obtain a figure for South Africa, the authors averaged IQ studies done on different ethnic groups, resulting in a figure of 72. The figures for Colombia, Peru, and Singapore were arrived at in a similar manner.

In some cases, the IQ of a country is estimated by averaging the IQs of countries that are not actually neighbors of the country in question. For example, Kyrgyzstan's IQ is estimated by averaging the IQs of Iran and Turkey, neither of which is close to Kyrgyzstan—China, which is a geographic neighbor, is not counted as such by Lynn and Vanhanen. This is because ethnic background is assumed to be more important than proximity to other nations when determining national IQ." Even South Africa didn't have an I.Q. study for it despite it being one of the top 10 most developed African nations and one of the top 10 in Africa in relation to GDP as well.

The study is also biased in that it already assumes that ethnicity will have an effect on average I.Q. level. Such studies can't really be used to show that ethnicity and race have different average I.Q. levels due to ethnicity and race if it is already assumed that ethnicity and race do have an impact on it.

Of course, I'm not sure where you're getting your own numbers from but this is a fairly frequently cited study so I felt that I should use this one as an example. Perhaps other studies do the same thing, where they estimate averages based on the averages they have of other nations with similar ethnicities - such studies can't be used to show any sort of relationship between things like ethnicity and race with average I.Q. level if the study is going to come up with arbitrary averages based on these sort of things already.

Basically, studies that assume - emphasis on assume - that ethnic background is an already major influence on I.Q. level can't be used to conclude that ethnicity in any way influences average I.Q. level because that would just be begging the question. This goes not just for this study but any other study, unless said studies are backed by another study that actually proves the direct biological ethnic and racial influence on I.Q. level of which I haven't ever been presented any.

The next section I'm going to be quoting from, also from the wiki, is on scores that do not support the theory.

This is important, it shows that while I.Q. is very influential in how a successful a country is economically it isn't the only major factor and other things can have it differ by quite a bit too.

This means that aside from looking at at failing country and attributing it to lower average I.Q. levels it can also just be due to a lack of natural resources in the area. Perhaps this is why the Australian Aborigines have such a low I.Q. level, because they just don't have the resources to make a society for themselves which would in turn raise their I.Q. level as apparently there is correlation between I.Q. level and how effective the economy of the country one is in is. More on that next.

The wiki continues, and I quote: "One example of this was Qatar, whose IQ was estimated by Lynn and Vanhanen to be about 78, yet had a disproportionately high per capita GDP of roughly USD $17,000. So the economic state is due only to the resources and not because the people have high I.Q. levels? Don't get me wrong, the environment and the resources obviously play a role in the economy as well but I though I.Q. was supposed to be this big influence - and I'm sure it is. So then why is it that both of these countries have booming economies yet they still are estimated to have lower average I.Q. levels? Easy, because the study is biased towards ethnicity and race already being major contributing factors to I.Q. level as opposed to reaching such a conclusion based on data. For all we know these countries are booming not just because they have high natural resources but also due to these people having high I.Q. levels and a lack of a corrupt government. Of course, that wouldn't fit the narrative though.
