Does anyone else get the feeling that this whole google thing is A/B testing?

Google is in the business of predicting people. In the past year, they've failed spectacularly. They didn't see the revival of right-wing populism coming. They didn't see Trump. They didn't see the backlash to their heavy-handed attempts at mitigating the difference via censorship. They can no longer dismiss these things as outliers; it's obvious that their conclusions are horribly wrong, as are the assumptions that led to them.

So what do they do? Produce a document presenting a very mild opposition argument, let it leak (both internally and externally), and watch the reaction.

If the response to the document is positive, then Google shifts their policy to match, purging leftist employees as necessary. If it's negative, then they double down and resume trying to shift the overton window left.

When's The Big One supposed to happen again? I want to see California burn.

After one Philadelphia newspaper ran a banner headline "Nazi Rally-Rouser Really Jewish," the Park Service yanked the permit Levy's ADL handlers ordered him to lay low for a while.
