Why is the US government so corrupt and inept that it's incapable of successfully completing any task whatsoever?

I understand why so many Americans have mistrust of Federal programs because it's spanned decades now, anything government puts its mind to fails miserably, but it hasn't always been this way. For example, the Interstate Highway was built for $511 billion in inflation-adjusted dollars, yet half a century later when $825 billion was invested into repairing and maintaining it, seemingly no actual repairs or maintenance were performed on it.

Every time a new tunnel, bridge or rail line is proposed, anywhere, work runs billions of dollars over budget and years behind schedule for relatively simple construction. Our famously massive military pays trillions of dollars for inferior and defective weapon systems, then launches long and nebulous occupation campaigns that are eventually abandoned without strategic goals. Our "free market" healthcare system requires three times as much taxpayer spending to maintain as most single payer systems. Rocketry, our pride and joy that planted out flag on the moon, has become a ridiculous boondoggle where now NASA's highest ambition is to launch a rocket for $2 billion that's markedly inferior to rockets private companies will be able to launch for $70 to 90 million in a shorter timeframe. We have the best funded public schooling system on Earth and every year it delivers increasing illiteracy and falling test scores.

What the fuck happened? Government corruption has obviously always existed, but this absolute failure of governance must be a recent phenomenon or the United States would never have become a superpower in the first place, it would have spent its entire history as a meandering wreck like Brazil or Venezuela.

Went to the Portland rally yesterday, had a great time antagonizing leftist degenerates, commies, and anarchists.

There were three demonstrations against the Free Speech rally. The first was organized by Portland labor unions/socialists. They spent most of the day repeating slogans through a megaphone and being ignored until the very end, when they were the only demonstration remaining. The second was a group of assorted liberals in front of the City Hall. They were the largest group and spent most of the day arguing back and forth with /pol/ autists and a couple guys with megaphones. Eventually, they denigrated to literally shouting that we had tiny dicks. The most interesting group was the antifa who were assembled at the adjacent Chapman Square. The strongest police/oathkeeper presence was concentrated there.

The day was relatively uneventful at first except for shouting matches. I participated in a couple shouting matches alongside Pat Washington, aka the Based Spartan. He was spitting venom at the counter-protesters, talking about how he would like to beat them up and that he hated all of them. At one point, he got too aggressive and an oathkeeper stepped in to get him to back off, and he turned his aggression on the oathkeeper.

At around 3:00, antifa started getting antsy and began throwing tampons dipped in red paint, stink bombs, and bricks at our side. Most of the projectiles fell short, although one chunk of brick hit my shinguards and bounced off. The police began closing in, using tear gas, rubber bullets, and flashbangs to push back the antifa. Chapman Square was quickly cleared of antifa, and numerous weapons were seized, such as knives, chains, batons, and tasers. The antifa tried to march through the streets but were quickly kettled by police and not allowed to leave unless they had their pictures taken.

Some minor brawls happened as the rally ended, but overall, it was a good demonstration and a middle finger to the regressive left.
