What is a gun's primary function in your opinion, /pol/?
A friend of mine (from Texas, if it makes any difference) claims it has many: from fun to self-defence, but that its primary one is to shoot pieces of lead at high velocity, and that it being used to kill (be it in self-defence or otjerwise) is just one of many valid uses. I argued that its primary function is to kill and its secondary is to intimidate by way of the first, and that anything else is just easily done with alternatives (airsoft, paintball, etc.).
What do other Americans, and other countries think?

A gun is made to propel projectiles. Thats it.. Saying guns are made for killing is a silly statement when you consider the amount of guns that are manufactured specifically to compete in shooting competitions. There are 10+ shooting disciplines in the Olympics alone.

I can't think of a way around a universal basic income. People are predicting 50% of jobs to be replaced with automation in the next two decades. We dont have enough work for seven billion people now.
Can any one name a work around? Killing a bunch of people off would work but most dont have the stomach for it.

Of current jobs that is. 100 years ago 50% of us worked on farms, today only 2% of us do. When we found new and better ways to do this job, those 48% didn't sit on their asses, they found new and better things to do that make other jobs more efficient.

We have plenty of work for people. But big business that has the jobs are cheap fuckers and want everything done by a few people as possible, on top of minimum wage increases, brought on by your common folk demanding more because they can't afford the things they need/want because prices are artifically high and corporations run solely for as much profit as possible.
Basically no one's aiming to pay for a decent society. So we haven't got one.
Maybe everyone can get a job filling in captchas because as a human I fail more than 50% of the time. Robots have got no chance.
