In many cases, a shared language actually intensifies groups' alienation from one another.
When two groups do not share a language, they are naturally distant from one another. Most conflicts (talking social and personal here) are muffled and muted by mutual misunderstanding.
However, once one group begins to acquire the language and culture of the other, often this heightens sensitivities to perceived disrespect. It can easily be observed, for example that in the United States, it is often the most "whitewashed", college-educated African-Americans who have spent a great deal of time in close contact with whites who exhibit the most bitterness and hostility towards whites, rather than backcountry southern blacks who were raised in a more segregated cultural milleu. The same is true of relationships between socially dominant Europeans/whites and native Africans in Africa itself. While relations between rural blacks and whites are not always harmonious putting it mildly, the acute bitterness that you find among urban educated blacks is not there.
And why is this? It is because Africans who learn the mannerisms of the European and his language to perfection or at least to it inevitably and understandably expect for their trouble to be able to socialize with Europeans. And to a large extent, they can; but can't avoid the lingering feeling of alienation that inevitably is the result of experiencing hostility even if mild and from only a minority of the social group into which they are attempting to assimilate.
This is almost a universal phenomenon. Many Asian-Americans have a similar experience, as do whites in Asia. That is not to say that it is impossible to live happily as a racial alien in another's society, but rather that it is difficult.
It requires an understanding that simply as a result of being physically different, evoking rejection from at least SOME "normal" people is simply a biological inevitability.

I mean, why would climate scientists not only make most of the supposedly "real" raw data freely available, why would they update (aka "fake") the data multiple times every couple of years?
