As mentioned I just got my first camera an EOS Rebel T5 Canon with a 18-55mm lens.

Obviously as a beginner I know jack shit about cameras and the magic they can really do.

All in all how good is this camera for a beginner and which other options could I have looked in to? Oh yeah, I got it for $400.oo
>>
>>2758297
It's very good for an absolute beginner.
>>
>>2758297

itll do far more than what youll ever be able to ask it to do. its very capable. dont spiral into some stupid buyers remorse, because it aint do you any good.

start taking pictures already.

Because other than battery life (and maybe obscure lens selection), it's better in literally every way.
>>
>>2758326
Like I said I just started/Any tips to make the shot better?
>>
>>2758330
Get it in focus.

Make it make sense. Why is there a little Buddha statue on a mushroom in the woods? It's super contrived, and yet also, indecipherable.
>>
>>2758319
what is this? why were you taking a photo of it?

if your answer is "because i liked it" try again

That was a wrong photo, but thank you for the criticism. It was a stupid "because I liked it" shot.

>>2758334
Thank you! There is a point behind it, but I understand what you mean about it being artificial.

That may be the case for you, but your viewer can't tell what it is. If the photo is for us (which seems to be the case, since you posted it) then it should be something we can understand.

Right now, it's a bit like a 14 year old writing poetry in a language he made up and hasn't taught to anybody, read out loud in the cafeteria.

turn this photo around, i like the use of foreground and background though

Hello!
I started this as a hobby just last week.
I read two books about it; Tony Northrump's How to create stunning digital photography
and Bryan Peterson - Understanding Exposure

The later i suggest at least reading. It was coherent and gave me some ideas. It also had good examples of everything.
All i can say is; just go and shoot. Test things out. I've become alot more better just handling the camera and getting an 'eye' for photos.
Pic is something i shot yesterday.

1.3 sec exposure... did you put it on a tripod? You got some camera shake there.
>>
>>2758319
You missed the focus on this
>>
>>2758402
Nice! Keep shooting!

One thing I would say is your foreground is underexposed. You have to fix this in post processing. (Don't bother with HDR. Cameras have great dynamic range)
>>
>>2758414
Thanks! :)
I tought i fixed it, i might've uploaded wrong pic.
>>
>>2758308
Hold camera very steady wen taking shutter speeds slower than around 1/125 (and in general)
>>2758311
Blown highlights, make sure to expose for the subject (waterfall) not the background (the trees and shit). Even the background is kind of overexposed in my opinion. Also with that long of an exposure, your camera HAS to be completely still.
>>2758319
Never take photos from inside your car. Just don't.
>>2758344
Can't really tell what the purpose of this photo is. If it was of the water, get closer to the water, if it was of the ice, get closer to the ice. Whatever it was of, get closer (or farther, or just do whatever to make it the subject of the photo), because right now it just looks like you took a picture of the ground.

Anyway hope that helped a little. And, a word of advice, while you are beginning, I'd kinda stay away from this board. People are horrible here, and while the harsh criticism has definitely made me better, while you're still learning, I think it'd be best to just wait until you get the feel of things. If you do stay, though, just remember not to take anything too seriously on here.

strip exif before posting photos on /p/ because a big chunk of the community will jump down your throat / give inaccurate criticism because they see you have an entry level canon

this is a very anti-canon board for some reason

The board rules (as in, the rules rules, and not the suggestions "rules" in the sticky) ask you to include EXIF when possible.

There are three possible outcomes when posting a photo taken with a Rabble to /p/. I present them here, in order of likeliness (1 is most likely):

1. It'll get ignored forever.
2. People will be impressed that you took such a good photo with a rabble.
3. People will see that you took a bad photo with a rabble and say, "go figures! fucking newbs!"
>>
>>2758507
then just forge the camera exif for actual feedback

then laugh and post the real exif after they give it
>>
>>2758507
>rules
>when possible
that's called "not a rule", you dipshit.
>>
>>2758510

>Even though EXIF data is made available when encoded, please post as much relevant technical information as possible, such as: camera, kit, lens, etc.
>>
>>2758500
Couldn't be accurate that your photos just suck, while you also happen to have a rebel, eh?
You faggots will jump at ANY excuse to dismiss criticism and success of other artists.

i'm not OP nor am i posting any pics buddy

I'm just letting him know that /p/ is shill&shitpost territory for certain groups and how he can outwit them

you seem a bit miffed by this.
