Fellow Brisbanite! This velvia looks so much more subdued than what I usually see, cool stuff. You home develop or go somewhere else? I send my 135 stuff to Hillvale in Melbourne, but they upped their prices (understandably) so it's not so economical any more. Anyway, nice to see someone else shoot film here

new portra 400@800. never again..
I have 4 rolls of 220 to get developed but no longer have a scanner and have yet to buy a macro lens for my A7. Not that motivated to dev them cause negatives are pretty useless without having a way to digitize them.
Once I finally have the means to digitize Ill hopefully have a nice pile of stuff to sort through. So far most if it is long exposures.
>>2753932
you dont have a filmfriend with a scanner?
>>2753932
Most labs charge for scans from negatives so if you're desperate do that. It's not that expensive
>>2753929
I'm sure a DSLR scan would look a lot better, that seems ridiculously bad.
Did you push in processing, or just underexpose?

Asked this in the gear thread and got no response. Looking at a 645nII. One listing has the 45-85 lens, and another has just the 75. I can afford either, and I'm leaning towards the zoom for versatility, unless there's a consensus that the zoom is a dogshit lens. Help pls and thank you.

Small format black and white gives great results with the right film and good technique, most 135 colour on the other hand can still look a bit patchy at modest enlargements, and the improvement in tonality is immediately visible when you step up in format.

Processing at home probably. Not giving your medium format bokeh monster dick picks to some lab guy to process.
Price has a little bit to do with it for me too. C41 120 costs as much as or more than B/W then at least £5-8 for processing.

Get a GA645zi.
They're small and QT enough that you can actually bring them places and use them casually.
Do not underestimate the value of having the camera on you.
Also, built in flash means the slow lense isn't *as* much of a liability, also it's really sharp, also you get all 16 frames per roll, I think...

That makes sense. I guess it's really pointless to put things like "compression" and "composition" down on a test chart, so the ability to adjust those very important aspects of your frame on the scene don't really seem important to those people. You can't brag about how your 24-70 has better compression flexibility than [other brand]'s 24-70, and if you can't win based on gear selection, why even play...

your a croweater right?
cheap medium format?
>>2760306
imo the best deal in medium format right now would be the minolta autocord. very cheap, optics that rival the much more expensive rolleiflex's and arguably superior ergonomics.
here's some info: http://www.dantestella.com/technical/autocord.html
I still prefer rolleis, they're a bit smoother and more solid mechanically, but even the cheaper versions are much more expensive than an autocord. you can probably get old folders for less but they have shit ergonomics, guess focusing, and mediocre optics.
tlrs are pretty great, they're much lighter and quieter than equivalent slrs (like hasselblad or bronica for example), so they're much more portable. only downsides are fixed lenses and parallax at close focusing distances.
>>2760311
yeah but menelta :/
At least get konishiroku.
But real patrician shot Fujica.
I wanna get into Medium format. How's the Mamiya 645 as a first camera? Also how do you guys scan your 120 negs? Is it possible to do it with a DSLR just like with 35mm or will I have to invest in a proper scanner?
>>2760847
I personally think that if you're going to jump into medium format 645 isn't enough of a difference from 35mm. I would recommend a 6x7 or bigger even if you get less shots out of it. RB67 + 90mm isn't a bad start if you don't mind the weight and bulk and already have a decent tripod. If you want something for walking about you should look at the posts above for a TLR.
DSLR will work if you have a good macro lens, keeping the focus plane flat is important and if you already have a setup for your 35mm this is the obvious option. Since you have a lot more to work with you should experiment with stitching multiple images of the same negative for extra resolution just make sure you get a dedicated image stitching program (I've had trouble with stitching negatives in Photoshop in the past but ymmv).

Microsoft ICE has yet to fail me on stitching my negatives back together. Have yet to find any artefacts.

thanks for the input. Seems like the RB67 and the 645 are around the same price so I will probably just get a RB67 shipped from Japan or something. Does the camera screw on a normal tripod mount or will I need a special plate?
Also this might sound like a stupid question, but is there a focal length magnifying/reducing factor between 35 equivalent and MF? So, would a 90mm lens be equivalent to 90mm on 35mm?

90 is the normal lens for a 6x7. I did the 127, which is a little telephoto. The rb has a normal tripod socket, but it is heavy, so make sure your tripod can handle it.

I was looking for something a bit wider desu and there's a kit for sale with the 65mm so I'm probably gonna go with that.
I'll have to see if my tripod can handle it then I guess.
Thanks for the help, appreciate it!

Yeah, bruzz.

Rule of thumb approximation for 6x7 is divide focal length by 2 for 35mm equiv. That is only for 6x7. 645, 6x9 have different multipliers. Hence a Sekor 180mm is about 90mm on 35mm. If you plan to do a decent amount of handheld snapshitting, I recommend the 65mm/f4.5. It is "relatively" easy to focus, and has a nice field of view. For portraits the 180mm is sweet but oh so much harder to nail focus with. As the previous anon said, be sure you have a heavy duty tripod....the RB isn't light. Also, if you are doing field work where you will be setting and tearing down multiple times, a quick release plate is almost mandatory.

The 65 is probably your best bet for a wide lens with that cam. Good call.

D-do 50yo box cameras even qualify for a MF thread?

Yes, but try to still think about subject and composition instead of relying on the novelty of the camera you're using.

I think so.
This was 8 minutes, I think.

Did you scan that yourself? It's missing a lot of contrast.

yeah you're right. I guess I was just turned off by the saturation in the greens and yellows and overlooked everything else
oh and i scanned it with an v500
So I just got this. I guess I'll be in these threads from now on.
I got pretty much a whole darkroom along with it, including tanks and a pair of Durst color enlargers with nice timers and lenses, matting and cutting stuff, the works. None of it had been touched in almost 10 years, so the chems and film were all bad.
I think I'll start out by shooting some B&W, souping it in the bathroom, and scanning it. Later this week will probably involve a trip to Freestyle photo for chems, a changing bag, and film.
