Hey guys, I do not know where to ask this, so I figured I would ask you guys first.

My parent's 25th anniversary is coming up, and I would like to fix some of their wedding pictures.

Long story short, they hired a friend to do it, and the pictures all came out looking like it was put through a cheap phone filter. I am told it is better to have a picture of the picture rather than a scan of the picture. Is this true?

I have photoshop, but I am very new at this. I have googled, but I can't seem to find a page with this type of photo error... mostly photos with color already in them and have a light spot.

Attached is a photo. Could someone help me or point me to the right direction?

Thanks guys.

Ask one of your parents if they have the negatives that the photos were made from. Prints tend to degrade over time, but negatives last quite a while. If they do have the negatives take them to a photo restoration store (knowing which ones you want restored).

If they don't have the negatives, scan the image in your scanner at the absolute highest DPI (should be like 4800dpi for consumer grade scanners) and save it as a TIFF file. When I do this type of work I, I almost always use a scanner. Taking a photo of the picture subjects the picture to the lighting conditions (changing how colours and shadows look) and the image rendering of whatever camera they took the image with.

This photo looks very fixable though, there's not a whole lot wrong with it. If you upload a high res scan I'll have a crack at fixing it.

If you don't have a scanner, take the physical prints to a photo restoration shop.

what he said, not really possible to salvage the photo from the OP picture
>>
>>2753262
Oh my god, you are amazing!

I will see if I can scan it with a real scanner in the next few days. How did you do that!
>>
>>2753264
not him, but it looks like he just changed the hue and fucked around with a few sliders in Lightroom. As I said, not really much wrong with it so it should take not long to fix

Highest DPI, save as a TIFF. Got it!

photoshop curves, but you flashed the fuck out of the photo so its blown out. i think it can be made to look quite good if properly scanned.

you feel in charge here?

Could you post a full size smartphone picture in the mean time? Your S6 takes 16 megapixel photos so post one of those

>>2753267
took longer for you to make that than to actually restore it. I think photo restoration is way more /p/'s wheelhouse than /r/. I'd rather have OP here than the hundreds of 'make me a meme /p/' posts

>>2753271
I did take a 16mp photo. Would it upload here that size or do I upload it somewhere else?
>>
>>2753273
The filesize limit for 4chan is 5mb. If it's under than, post it here. If it's over that, upload it to imgur and post the link here
>>
>>2753264
A lot of scanners will try to autofix old pictures. I had an epson that was pretty fucking good at fixing 70s snapshits.
>>
>>2753254
Scan it and upload it here, it's basically just changing the color balance and some saturation
>>
Here is the larger image. I hope this worked!
