I added blue all over, took a little red out of the bottom, and thickened up the highlights.

Ektar looks normal here, and it was a good choice. Velvia would also look good but wouldnt be as soft and warm, nostalgic looking. Maybe shoot Provia just to see how it looks.

I use Gimp for editing.
I didn't use any brushes or gradients.
I use the curves interface for all colour editing.
I find a nice way to build up contrast and detail in highlights is to duplicate the image, set the blending mode to Multiply and then add a Grayscale Copy layer mask.
I then make a new layer from visible and bring the exposure back up a bit in curves.

The Rockies, midwest, middle America, Texas, New York all feel like different countries. It's an incredible country, coming from an Australian who's mid way through exploring it. Fuck yeah Crested Butte! I have such a soft spot for that town, it's where so many of my summer and fall adventures begin. Hands down my favorite mountain town in Colorado, so easy to hang out around and camp and the people are far less douchey than many other towns.

I really enjoyed the thread, gave me some of those mountain town feels that I need to step back and capture sometime. Looks like you missed fall by a week but it's still beautiful there.

Colors aren't bad, but the sky is really warm. I think that's what's throwing you off. Try cooling the images until the sky looks blue/neutral.
