Whats your camera/ film combination.
Mine is Nikon fm2 with Either Tri-x or hp5.
>>2744107
Canon AE-1 with HP5+ or Kentmere 400.
I don't have mine yet, but hopefully in a week or two It'll be a Mamiya m645 with Rollei Retro 400s
>implying film bodies matter
Kill yourselves
>>2744107
Anyone noticed a real difference between Tri-X and HP5+? I haven't yet, although I haven't done any tests. If there isn't any, then Tri-X doesn't really need to stick around for most of us, does it?
bessa + 35mm + tri-x
>>2744119
I prefer tri-x as it gives me a better tonality for daytime shots. At least the way I develop it.
Pentax 67 + Ektachrome EPP100
>>2744119
I find HP5 to be finer grained, faster, give better skin tones, respond better to orange and red filters, cost less, and be much easier to scan.
>but hey, that's just me.
Newbie film photog here. I bought some Kodak TMax400. I didn't do any research befor buying it. The problem is I read it can't be developed on your own. Is this true? Or harder to develop than the tri-x.
nikon fm2 + rollei 80s or mamiya rz67 + hp5+
>>2744222
check'd
It is considerably more sensitive to development than tri-x. The effects of a deviation of 1~2ºC during development is similar to what one would expect from 3~5ºC on regular films. That said, it can be developed at home, just be careful. Have your thermometer with you all the time, and sit the developing tank into a larger tank filled with water during development and keep track of the temperature. T-max 400 surely is one the best films available.
RZ67 and hp5 or 4x5 with 100 speed arista
Kiev-60 and fomapan.
>>2744489
Though I did buy batch of delta 3200 and shanghai gp2 some time ago and have been burning through those.
>>2744533
The body is just a shutter housing and a lens mount. It has no bearing on the final image at all.
m2 with trix and sometimes hp5
>>2744554
No but different features mean a lot to certain people. There's a lot of differences between a Leica M3 and an EOS1v, for instance.
m6 with apx or silvermax.
>>2744554
It has a bearing on:
available shutter times
available lenses
shot framing method
portability
potentially metering method
These are all essential to properly casting light on the focal plane of the film of choice, anon, arguing otherwise is a /p/ thing to do.
>>2744585
some day they'll find a cure for your crippling autism
>>2744585
I would be right there with you if people were listing exotic cameras in this thread (or even on this board), but we both know that people are only going to list middle-of-the-road consumer cameras that all do all of the things you listed equally well.
>>2744574
i use either a summaron or a 35 skopar. i prefer trix due to more tones and more everything. hp5 gets all contrasty on me instantly where i have to work for crushed blacks on trix
>>2744619
That's sorta presumptuous of you. Also, dependant on your definition of exotic. So far I've worked on three different SLRs, two very different rangefinders, a lomo-barebones viewfinder and a TLR and each type if not even model of camera forced me to adapt a different, sometimes highly specific, workflow and choice of subjects and motives. So arguing that naming your cam body is irrelevant, from my experience and perspective, at least, is just wrong.
I can post pic examples and arguments to back this up if needed but that seems very self-gratuitous and redundant (I doubt anyone gives a fuck about my gearfagging).
Ricoh gr1v and the roll in it currently is prove 100f
>>2744633
>three different SLRs, two very different rangefinders, a lomo-barebones viewfinder and a TLR
>gearfagging
That's not a lot of cameras at all...
>>2744647
It's enough to prove his point though.
Obviously camera bodies matter, other bloke was just gentle trolling.
>>2744649
not that he was a gear fag
>>2744649
Also, it wasn't trolling, but clearly hyperbole.
Clearly your film (and developer) choice is going to have an overwhelming effect on the image compared to the body. It's not like you switch to another film body and all of a sudden your images will be in color.
>>2744670
Ah, I see now, we're having two different conversations here - I'm talking about the brushes and canvas and you're talking about pigments, paints and varnishes. The same roll of film/dev process will yield identical results dynamic range-wise, in terms of contrast/colour regardless of used gear, but if your camera doesnt have the right shutter speeds to nail the exposure or means of framing the shot you envision, the content of the film frame will physically differ. There really are subjects, situations or lighting conditions in which some types of cameras or combinations of available settings are impossible or very troublesome to use. I know b/c I've been in them purposefully.
Film/process is crucial for resulting image.
Camera is crucial to obtain said image properly.

Ae-1p + hp5

New F-1 + HP5
Right now its a Rollei 35 with Portra 160.
Usually though, I just use Fuji Superia because I'm poor.
>>2745909
Superia is actually not bad. I like the reds and greens.
$20 F-301 and HP5
FM2 or F5 with Tri-X 400, Ilford 3200, Ektar 100, Portra 400, sometimes Superia 800.
I don't have have a "Usual" combo. Just whatever film or speed is needed for the shoot.
>>2745909
Same. I just got a roll of Portra 800 (inb4 shitty grain joke) but I usually shoot Superia too because it's easily accessible and weilds good results.

how do u like your t3 so far? is the autofocus good? if you could tell me your experience with it I would be very grateful.
>>2746849
its not to bad its a point and shoot but it performs well enough, focus is loud as fuck but quick. fits in your pocket and the lens is great, is it worth the price well probably not. its solid as fuck and the construction is top notch. it does the job but so can other cameras for cheaper. I prefer the T2.

All of them, provided you're using patrician 6x9.
With that much film real estate, any film will give you great sharpness and tonal range at normal viewing sizes.
If you're shooting 645, or cropping from square format, then slower and sharper is better.

can you expand a little on why you prefer the t2? it is basically between these two for me and the t2 is significantly more accessible.

Kodak film base is purple, m8, there's no problem.
Film that isn't fixed properly will show a yellowy stain towards the middle of the neg, or overall cloudiness, or sometimes streaking around the sprocket holes.
You do seem to have quite a few underexposed negs though, I'd work on that.

This is an extremely unevenly exposed (5 ev between the thristle plant and the background) min focus dist f/5.6 shot from a 50yo polish TLR with a 75mm triplet, shot on Ilford XP2, scanned on a 12yo flatbed with improvised backlignting, aka you hoped for a civilised known body/lens combo and got outlandish gibberish from the tripfag.
I underestimated how shallow the dof is on these things, there's an apartment building and McDonalds' sign in the background, smudged into oblivion making this look like a wildlife shot. Talk about isolating the subject.
