Holy shit. That would be scary. I used to sneak up to the observatory back in 08 after work and relax when I was working for the old Mayor's IT department. I couldn't even imagine what would be going though your head being in a building built in 1894 during an earthquake.

A shot I took that day. It wasn't so bad, I thought the wind was making us sway at first. There was me, my wife and daughter, an off duty cop, and the "tour guide". There was a moment when it did sway a lot that made me worried, but we didn't know what was going on. The guide was totally freaked and led us right to the elevator. But the cop and I decided we would do the stairs so we all walked very slowly down a spiral staircase through the middle of the tower, old wooden creaking and stuff. The rest of the inside of the tower was like an attic with all sorts of stuff we passed on the way down. I guess if I was going to die that would have been an interesting option, to fall in a old city hall tower during an earthquake with my family.

Thanks, and yeah that's true, I think I do it the way I have for myself more than anything, as it essentially makes a timeline of the day. Though that may not be so useful for the audience who don't have the same attachment to the images.

Most of your shots are kind of boring, if I'm being honest. Lots of shots up tall walls and that sort of thing - architecture photography is perfectly valid, but you need something interesting going on in the shots - better composition.

You do have a few shots that are pretty promising though - I particularly liked 10 and 12 - nice colors, interesting scenes. 10 could probably benefit from a bit more going on, but overall it's a solid shot.

13 is so close - but it just lacks something interesting happening in front of that great building.
Similar situation with 9058-2: You've got something great going on with the lines, but then they don't really get used for anything. They have awesome potential, but without an interesting subject, all I've got, as the viewer, is a building with some big white columns or some shit.

You're on the right track - you can spot an interesting background, but a lot of times, you aren't letting a scene develop; you aren't really /composing/ an image. You're just trying to let the background stand for itself, and I suspect I'm not the only one who doesn't think it's enough.

Solid stuff you've got here. A few of the photos have a bit too much post though, which really cheapens an otherwise great shot of me. It definitely comes down to personal taste, but I'd really recommend toning it back a bit.

As for the firework photos, I like the red ones, and the one with the man in front. The other firework shots come off as extremely bland to me, though.

Definitely good stuff overall, though, you should feel pleased with yourself

Now personally I will admit alot of them are snapshots as I like to upload even the mildly passable stuff as they do have a lot of meaning to me personally. Days out with my friends and gf and quite a few family and friends check on the page from time to time.

I will try and get back on the landscape game soon, I used to be so into it but where I stay its a bit bland so you have to do something different with landscapes to stand out from everyone else.

I.e. the long exposure of the trees with flash going off underneath, those are locally famous trees (the kissing trees) and I swore I wouldn't take photos of it unless they were different from everyone else's, why photograph something that's been done a thousand times over?

the ONLY photo i thought was pretty neat was pic related, and although even that isnt really unique or anything, i see a lot of potential for amazing landscape/nightscape/star trailing work you can do

Some of these have great composition, but you should really read about exposure. Most of these shots seem off, with maximum lens aperture and super fast shutter speed when it is not needed.
