Hey! I'm looking to replicate these portraits for a side project. The photos are from Warby Parker and I would like to replicate their setup for doing some headshots. Can someone provide me some insights on how to light, backdrop, shooting, etc?
I'm more of a hobby photographer so I might need to purchase equipment if need be. I have a A7ii and a6000 with FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 and 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 (a6000). I've never done portraits like these before so any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

I've never done anything similar but pic related might be useful to you lad

Having a white background really helps so you don't need to do do any real tedious editing in post, especially around hair which is usually a headache - you could go out and buy a real photography background and stand for like $100 but for a one time thing a nice fresh piece of project board will work fine which you can pick up from walmart for like $6.
Lights appear to be dead on or slightly to the right, which you can see in the models eyes - I have a grand total of zero studio time so someone else will probably be better at telling you about the lighting.
Pretty sure only the Asian has actual glass in the frames which should be noted since lights and glasses is a headache if you don't want glare.
On the A7ii you should be solid at 70mm - it's slightly south of proper portraiture focal length but not by much, on the crop a6000 it's equivalent ff makes 50mm-70mm ideal but it's up to you if you want to sacrifice a little style for a little image quality.

Thank you this is very helpful!
>>3126865
Thank you for the tips! The focal length will be a big aspect since I believe I don't have a ton of room to shoot in either while I'm at the office. I'm a full time interactive designer and did a bit of work for Sony and took advantage of the discount the offered on equipment. I regret not buying any lens at the time haha.
Hey guys, cant seem to find this book anywhere, any chance someone here have a pdf?
I've looked for a few years and have never found it. I ended up just buying it, and you should do the same. It's eighteen bucks, bro.
>>3126915
yep. but they charge me 25$ of shipping cost. i would buy a ebook.

I was lazy
matt granger is so easily butthurt. I wonder if that one model he took all over the place finally got sick of him. He obviously perved all over her. I heard he was married though. Maybe his wife got tired of being left at home
You think you're a gearfag, huh. Tell me gearfag, what camera has the fastest shutter speed? What camera has the fastest flash sync?
>>3126524
>fastest flash sync
>>3126524
Rapatronic had 1/100000. I'd think there were even faster cameras by now.
Modern regular cameras do like 1/32000. Sony, Nikon, Fuji have some models at least.
>send pics for printing
>we can't do it some parts are overexposed
>I 'fix' them
>the lights changes shape completely
(disregard the color)
Why can't they print the %100 white parts? I like how the lights turn out on my original edit. Rest of images is fine, only those 1-2 light sources are over.
If I bring it down to safe values you can see the shape changes completely.

How is that surprising? Your light just looked like this.
Why don't you just edit the image accordingly?
>>3126413
This is true. The light sources is how it is on the right. I like the experimental look of how it turns out if I go over and was wondering why the printers don't do whites over the 'safe' limits.
>>3126426
just change the white point value to 254 or something in photoshop. highlights wouldn't be 100% white and you'd be good to go
I just ordered some super 8 cartridges. What am I in for /p/?

Alright lads it's been about 2 months now with my digital camera and I gotta say, i just like film better. The digital just can't do it for me. All my digital golden hour pictures are just do lacking. Although I do enjoy editing for some reason. Kinda cozy. I will be selling my digital camera.

Flagship m43 cameras are outperformed by years old Nikon d3200s.
Those things can't even compete with Sony full frame, and yet flagship m43s cost more than those.
Why?
It really has me thinking.

Hello /p/ About 3 months ago i asked a question of budget cameras before i could get a dslr in august i caved in and got a 1300d early. Ive been enjoying it taking lots of pictures going places for the sake of photos.
>Pic is OC
Ive seen a firmware thats called magic latern and it looks ace is there anything similar for the 1300d/t5 because i love the features of it.
Also suggestions for image editing software as Photoshop is complete shit. i can only manipulate stuff im not good at colour.

I think you have to wait until magic lantern is ported for your model.
Lightroom is good for editing and management. A free alternative is for example darktable. flickr has some basic features, too.
>>3125558
ill have a look at darktable cheers bud
Hey guys im looking to get more into photography but all i own is a poloroid snap, which i enjoy using but now im looking for something more upscale. Any recommendations on affordable cameras? Maybe under $200 if possible?
So this'll work. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/fujifilm-minion-instax-mini-8-instant-film-camera/5891504.p?skuId=5891504 or if you wanna go real cheap, Goodwill's or Craigslist.
eBay has some good deals on used DSLRs and even new cameras. What you want to use is all down to your own interests and priorities, but I'd shop around there
so, I will be having a long flight connection in NYC, and want to buy a canon camera there. absolutely everyone told to head to B&H. it happens to be that I'll be there exactly on the one day it closes: saturday. shabbat, i guess. anyways, you guys have any recommendations? what about the following?
42nd Street Photo
H and B Digital
K&M Camera
Willoughby's Camera
and sorry for my ignorance on that, but does best buy sell DSLRs?
thanks already.
I love going into BH and facing the jew head on.
I have no advice. NYC photo stores are huge scams. You want no Euro taxes? Adorama has the best online presence of any of them. If you're doing intl that will be handy.
>>3124991
the thing is: I would like to hold my options in my hands before buying, you know?! an the models I want don't exist around here. that's why I'm not shopping online. otherwise, I would consider buying on amazon and shipping to their lockers. oh, and I am travelling to europe, not from. so, the cheapest for me is to buy them in USA.

Are you asking how to take pictures? If so I'm not sure anyone here can help you. Just go out and shoot.
He means develop. Evoke would be the direct/google translate of the term in some languages.
Just find a local store which does it, it should be alright.
