I'm about to get into different lenses. Are the cheaper lenses even worth buying? I'm considering buying pic related because of the current cashback option (CHF 165 instead of 215). Or should I directly start spending 700+ bucks or even 1000+? I know that money doesn't imply quality but I'd try to go for the best value in the respective price range.
I currently own the EOS 700D with the kit lens and was looking for a somewhat wider lens. If you have concrete suggestions in the <18mm range, I'm happy to listen.

Have you considered Ebay?
>be MFTard
>only have 2 native lenses, 14-140mm 3.5-5.6 kitlens (600 Euroshekels on its own) and the cheap-as-shit 25mm 1.7 (170 Euroshekels)
>the 25mm 1.7 is made out of plastic but with a metal mount and a very solid feel to it and almost perfect edge-to-edge sharpness
>look at some Canon And Nikon DSLRs on the showfloor of an electonrics store
>see a nikon 3300 with some kitlens
>wanna check it out
>can't find the fucking focus ring
>there's only one ring and it zooms
>notice the front element has ridges around the edge
>in disbelief, reach forward
>touch the front ring
>"no, it can't be"
>twist the front element
>it focuses
>the fucking front element focuses
>you couldn't even use a fucking CPL on this POS
>the front element slightly rattles in its place
tl;dr it depends on manufacturer and system.
Also, use the /gear/thread

I frequently shoot BDSM/fetish "play parties" because it's easy money: I derive no enjoyment from this.
Should I have any of this smut on a portfolio?
How do you even end up with a gig like this? Asking for a friend.
>>3138865
I was a photographer out of work and my girlfriend at the time was into it. She introduced me to Fetlife (fetish social media site) and there were a lot of events with professional photographers attached to them, so I waited for a chance to have a shot at it myself. I messaged random people in my city to see if they had work and it wasn't long since I had an amateur model hire me. Then it escalated into small events and then bigger events.
>>3138866
I wanted to add that I don't work for a company, it's individual contracts by individual people. Most of the time I shoot one person once or twice, my client base is large with some recurring people but more times than not it's a new person each time.

I want to get into photography.
I notice some "higher end" cameras don't always have the highest end features or capabilities. Do some features/perks of a camera matter more than others, and if so, what should I be looking for?
>Sony a6k line can shoot 11fps, but their fullframes can only shoot 5fps despite being 2-4x the cost; does fps really matter?
>Sony a7s is 12MP but is double the cost of the Sony a7ii which is 24MP; does MP really matter?
>some cameras can shoot up to 1/8000s and some up to 1/4000s, some up to 1/2500s; is it even practical to shoot at 1/8000s?
I'm just kind of lost on what I should be looking for. If I were buying a phone or TV and was concerned about the display, I'd look for higher ppi or contrast ratio, not really caring for nits for example. I just don't know what things I should ignore or things that are just buzzwords and what things really matter.
I forgot to add but I've never used a DSLR or ILC; most of my want out of getting a camera is to find a new hobby. P&S don't let you adjust aperture, shutter speed, etc and it's something I'd like to fool around with because it seems interesting.
Even the most basic DSLR will give me a good introduction to photography but I'd like something with some staying power:
>long term support for a lens mount so in five years I don't find my gear redundant if I were to upgrade
>easy/fast autofocus (I guess I want lots of AF points, or dual-pixel AF?)
>something good in lower light conditions (but I guess this is more lens specific than body specific)
>something with a viewfinder, either optical or digital (but in lieu of a viewfinder, something with support for a field monitor)
Any help or guides you'd suggest would be appreciated.
Canon 200d, easily the best beginners dslr out right now
>Does fps matter
That depends on what type of photography you intend on shooting, do you see yourself in situations that require continuous shooting?
>Does MP really matter
The a7s has a lower MP count for the sake of its great low light performance, it's generally seen more as a camera for video work.
>is it practical to shoot at 1/8000s
There's been plenty of times that I've had to stop down my aperture more than I'd like because my shots were still getting over exposed at 1/4000s on 100 iso, but shooting at 1/8000s isn't important to me personally.
>Do some features/perks of a camera matter more than others?
That's a loaded question, it mostly boils down to preference. For example, size, lens compatibility and sensor performance was my priorities when I went out to buy a camera, that's why I have a Sony with lame menus and UI.
You should stop by a camera store and test out some of the models you're considering, not that you can get an in depth experience at the sales counter but it gives you a general feel of it

THIS KILLS THE CANON
does it beat sony though?
>>3137929
And all the sonyboys will be crying in impotent rage because it has slightly more megapickels than their beloved a7Rii on a bsi sensor.
>>3137937
in everything except sheer burst speed, yes.
>Sony a6300, MSRP in Canada is $1300 for body only
>Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8, MSRP in Canada is $1100
>Sigma 30mm f/1.4, MSRP in Canada is $600
>Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 OS, MSRP in Canada is $500
>Sigma MC-11 Canon EF to Sony E adapter, MSRP in Canada is $350
Someone is selling the above as a bundle alongside other miscellaneous throwaway stuff like closeup filters, a bag, extra lens cloths and caps, for $3300 when retail is around $3850.
Is this a good introduction to MILC? I have a few Canon lenses but my camera was stolen and not super impressed with Canon MILC offerings.
>>3137918
is it stolen? Probably not, a $500 discount on something that's not new is minimal at that price point. The a6300 is a great camera though. I've had one for over a year now and love it. Only drawback is that it will overheat on 4k recording for long periods of time, so be aware. If you have the money to drop like that, go ahead and do it. Just make sure you don't get robbed
>>3137926
The guy has a couple hundred feedback on the forum I'll be getting it from, and meeting in a local place. It's used but it can't be used for that long considering the newness of the a6300 and MC-11.
It's only $500 discount, sure, but I'm hoping it's still a good bundle.
>>3137933
i mean ideally you would want a better deal for used but if it's all in mint condition and he's reputable then it could be worth it.

why don't you just use an ND filter on those bright sunny days - what happens to depth of field?
ok, /p/ricks. I lowballed an Olympus E-PL2 on ebay and won when i wasn't expecting to. Bought cheapo chinese manual lens from amazon. Took em for a walk today.
Tell me what i can do to make these pictures suck less.
so far my main problems are the focal distance markings are inaccurate so there's a lot of poor focus happening and i'm not weird enough to get in a strangers grill to get close enough so they fill the frame.
Also i went full retard and shot in art modes because if you're using a shit lens on a mediocre camera, might as well go lomo.

Forgot about the Rokkor 85mm f/2, this was taken on it at f/2. Liked how the tomatoes in the bottom right corner look like they're growing in a string as they blend into the bokeh.
